Harvey Nichols, Urban Outfitters and Liberty are some of the high-fashion retailers housing quirky handbags and wallets by Miami-based designer Sharon Paris. They are statement pieces literally, embellished with gold-lettered witty phrases like ‘I like to push your buttons’, ‘Shut up and get on with it’ and ‘Fishing for Compliments’. Things we’d all do well to blurt out now and then, I’m sure, but cannot. So, although it’s sure to make for a lesser impact, we can say it with a handbag.

Sharon Paris began lining a few upmarket shelves some five years ago and it was all uphill from there. She says, Stuff reports, “It’s kind of exciting. We feel like very very slowly we’re getting to where we want to be…we try and do stuff that makes people smile, and we try and keep it a little bit intelligent.” Of course being cheeky comes at a price though, with wallets selling for $100-200 and bags from $500 upwards. Sharon looks to expand her range as well as design for other companies.
