The only shopping I was able to do in Barcelona was at the airport at Zara, just before getting on the plane: after I looked for this baseball coat in Milan with no results there It was, at 50% of its original price. I also got a floral blazer from the new collection and the last winter dresses in the store, which were sold out in Italy some months ago. Love airport shopping :)
P.S: These photos were shot on Monday, before it snowed in Milan! Wanna take some photos in the white today!
W lo shopping all'aeroporto :)
P.S: Queste foto sono state scattate lunedi, prima che nevicasse a Milano. Spero di riuscire a farne alcune nel paesaggio totalmente bianco oggi!

Alexander McQueen is an endless font of Skull Clutch ideas
Alexander McQueen Woven Cord Box Clutch, $2075 via Neiman Marcus
There are a lot of reasons that I’m a person who writes about handbags instead of a person who designs them, but one of the big ones is that when I think about a bag like the Alexander McQueen Skull Clutch, I have no idea how I’d move forward with it. Skull clutches have been done in basically every color, finish, embellishment and theme of which I can conceive, and it seems like we should have hit some sort of back corner of creativity by now.
And yet, we haven’t. The team at McQueen continues to churn out both amazing clothes and beautiful accessories at a rate that would surely satisfy the man himself, were he around to supervise. Spring 2012 brings with it an impressive array of box clutches from the brand, and we have a few of our favorites for your perusal after the jump.

Luisaviaroma stylelab: my three looks

Some backstage photos of the 3 looks I chose and wore for Firenze4ver stylelab by Luisaviaroma: I started with a mix of Fausto Puglisi and Diego Dolcini (you'll soon understand why I love those shoes so much), then I wore MSGM, Giambattista Valli and Sergio Rossi, finishing with the royal dress by Alexander McQueen. Which is your favourite look? I can't wait to see the official photos I was shot :)
P.S: Taking photos with summer clothes in winter (especially outside) is always challenging, but it's worth it to be cold for those shots, isn't it?

Get The Trend: Powdery Pastels
When it became clear that ivory and pastels were going to be one of the biggest trends of 2012, I felt a bit disheartened at first. Very light colors can be a bit challenging to most skin tones, much more so than brights or jewel tones. Since we’re all basically self-interested people, I feel as though I should admit that they look particularly bad on me, which makes it especially hard to embrace even a subtle and ladylike trend like the largely cool-toned (it makes them less retro!) pastels of the Spring 2012 runways.
That’s the beauty of handbags, though. If you want to embrace a color trend without having to wear it next to your face for an entire day, accessories are the perfect way to do it; when a piece is viewed mostly against the colors of the rest of your outfit, whether or not it looks good on your particular skin tone becomes something of a non-issue. After the jump, we have six of our pastel picks so that you can start wearing the trend before spring’s bags even hit stores.

Best of British Fashion Awards
The British Fashion Council’s annual Fashion Awards took place in London yesterday, and accompanying the gongs came a bevy of noteable fashion moments. The big news of the night saw Victoria Beckham being crowned Designer Brand of the Year (beating the likes of Tom Ford and Burberry to the title!), with Alexander McQueen‘s Sarah Burton taking home the prize for Designer of the Year (two guesses as to what brought that about…) Other worthy winners included Stella McCartney for the Red Carpet Award; Christopher Kane for the New Establishment accolade, and Model of the Year Stella Tennant. Wowee.
Recipient of the Style Award (for emobodying the spirit of London as a modern fashion icon), Alexa Chung, appropriately wore a Christopher Kane Spring/Summer 2012 dress for the evening- and check out that matching jewelled clutch! ‘Matchy matchy,’ not so naff after all then. Whatever next, fascinators and nude tights back in style?! Tut. Stella McCartney also proved a faux pas can be turned around, with her own label jumpsuit matching it’s low slung waist with loooonng trouser legs, covering up her shoes almost entirely. Who says tailoring is staid!
Other looks we love came from blogger Susie Bubble, wearing shoes she herself designed in collaboration with FarFetch, and Alice Temperley- every inch the Betty Davis silver screen idol we see her as. And then there’s Daphne Guinness. That can’t have been comfy though Daphne, even with your stamina!
So showing off our national fashion treasures can mean many things, and on the night Laura Bailey plumped for Burberry Resort 2012- the collection which first kick-started the house’s raffia revival. A belted coat could easily be a shaky evening wear option, but with the right styling and heels here, Laura made a great choice don’t you think?
As for the details…
Look at Simone Rocha‘s perspex box bag! Flashing her ticket to the Awards too, double show off.
Louise Gray- how do we admire thee, let me count the ways? Red hoisery? Lilac dress? Eccentric…elegant, and the best advert for the Gray label ever!
Check out Sam Cam’s sneaky tattoo peaking over those Charlotte Olympia platforms. Dolphins (and… moons, is it?) Who knew, who knew.
Get back to work with some Alexander McQueen eye candy
The first Monday back from a holiday weekend is so, so cruel. It’s like a little reminder of the immutability of life; no matter what we do, the calendar marches on while we cling to our leftover turkey legs and half-eaten pumpkin pies, trying to extend the avarice a bit longer. It’s Monday now, though, which means that it’s time for gluttony of a different kind. A handbag kind.
To make your return to real life as soft and comfortable as possible, we’ve assembled a gallery of the Alexander McQueen Spring 2012 Skull Clutches, which are always so much fun to look at. They don’t taste like stuffing, admittedly, but you probably don’t need another helping of that anyway. (Seriously, though, pass me that pie. I’ll eat it for breakfast.)

With party season fast approaching, make sure your clutch game is tight
Alexander McQueen Punk Skull Box Clutch, $2720 via Net-a-Porter
We’re readying a much more extensive guide to sparkly little bags for the holiday season, but while that’s in the pipeline, I couldn’t help but post about the Alexander McQueen Punk Skull Box Clutch – after all, it really deserves to stand on its own. Feathers and rhinestones and beads, oh my!
With the bag, McQueen manages again to do what it always does so well – successfully combine multiple heavy design elements in a way that doesn’t feel overwrought or silly. The company makes that kind of light touch look easy, but it’s not – just as whoever’s behind Christian Louboutin’s handbags. A clutch like this one is to be celebrated as something of an accomplishment.
As best as I can tell, that success comes out of the brand, even after the loss of its founder, having a very clear and unified vision instead of just a lot of ideas. When everyone involved in the design process has bought in to a single aesthetic ideal, it becomes easier to work toward fulfilling it everywhere, not just on the runway. The embellishment on this clutch would look right at home trimming the edges of a McQueen collection dress, and although the feathers might make this bag a little awkward to hold at times, I think that the attention to detail is worth it. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $2720.

Here in Tokyo it's already morning, so here for you all the other photos shot on Sunday with all the guys around this incredible city. Carolina and I decided to go for Shu Uemura fake eyelashes, which soon revealed to be heavier than I thought but absolutely scenographic. For the typical dinner+karaoke night I changed jacket, wearing a new purchase from Ragtaf: a white leather jacket by Comme Des Garçons. Good night Europe and America, good morning Asia!
Alexander McQueen wins the clutch game yet again
Alexander McQueen Cathedral Skull Box Clutch, $2960 via Net-a-Porter
Longtime PurseBlog readers already know how I feel about Alexander McQueen’s skull clutches. They’re easily my favorite line of evening bags ever, and the legacy of McQueen as a brand always manages to shine through in their design, even though a box clutch is an exceptionally tiny canvas. If I had unlimited income, I’d collect these bags, and I can’t say that about any other brand on the market right now.
Without question, the Alexander McQueen Cathedral Skull Box Clutch would be the crown jewel of that collection. If I were to carry it, the bag would serve as a tiny gilded cage for my belongings, but let’s face it – this is the kind of bag that I’d want to display instead of use.
I’ve has this bag in one of my browser tabs since it first appeared on Net-a-Porter on Friday, and I keep returning to stare at it, particularly with the site’s ultrazoom feature. The details of the clutch are absolutely exquisite, and they live up to the “cathedral” name – this is like a tiny purse church, and I’m here to worship. The only damper on my enthusiasm is that the bag is made of silver-toned brass instead of sterling silver, which we’ve seen Bottega Veneta use in the occasional box clutch. Even with that in mind, this little evening bag is pretty close to perfection Buy through Net-a-Porter for $2960.
Want it Wednesday: Alexander McQueen Cites Chanter Python Hobo Bag
Whenever I see an intense cobalt blue bag, I am in love. If someone asked my favorite color, I would explain to them that a very vibrant and bold electric blue always gets me. That is why tracking down the perfect Celine Mini Luggage Tote was one of my biggest accomplishments in the handbag world to date.
When I opened up Net-A-Porter.com today, I got that same feeling of joy upon seeing another pretty blue bag. But this is not a Celine bag, it is an Alexander McQueen bag. To further my love, the Alexander McQueen Cites Chanter Hobo Bag is designed with supple matte python skin which is my favorite way to see the skin used. DROOL.
Unlike many Alexander McQueen bags, this hobo is rather subdued in its design, offering a very classic over the shoulder shape. The inside looks spacious enough for everyday use and the shoulder strap has a 9″ drop. Honestly, if the price were lower, I would have to keep my fingers from magically typing in my delivery information. Buy via Net-A-Porter for $4,645.
In Case of Emergency: Bags that double as weapons
Is it just me, or is the world on fire? Rioting, political unrest, pop stars being beaten in the streets of New York. What’s a girl to do, in the face of modern society ripping itself apart at the seams? Arm herself, of course.
I’m not talking about getting a gun or a knife. No, those are dangerous and it takes time to fish one out from the bottom of your bag. I’m talking about getting a handbag that can also be used in self-defense maneuvers of all kinds, so that if the apocalypse should rain down while you’re at the movies, you’ll be prepared to survive in the dystopian hellscape that you encounter when you leave. Or, you know, you can use most of these bags to whack a mugger in the head. But doesn’t the former somehow seem more likely than the latter lately? In all seriousness, though, be safe out there ladies. Particularly our readers in London.

Naturally, we couldn’t have this discussion at all without the Alexander McQueen Knuckle Duster Clutch. This design is the original handbag-as-weapon, or perhaps it would be more accurate to call it a weapon-as-handbag. How you use this one should be obvious. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $2125.

Those pointy bits on the front of the Botkier Flint Hobo are solid metal, and that means that in a pinch, you could cut one off, attach it to the end of a stick, and have yourself a handy shiv (or spear, if the stick is lengthy). Buy through ShopBop for $495.

You may not be able to see it in this picture, but we’re all familiar with the big honkin’ chain that graces every Marc Jacobs Stam. I’ve got one myself, and every time I’ve flown with it, I’ve found myself a little nervous that airport security might wonder why I had such a long, heavy chain. You could stave off an attacker in any number of ways with this thing, including a swift blow to the noggin. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $1350.

If there’s one thing that Alexander Wang’s bags are known for, it’s the sheet of solid, heavy studs that graces the bottoms of many of them. Of all the options in the line, the Alexander Wang Diego Bucket Bag is the best for self defense because of its long strap. Swing it around your head like Wonder Woman with her golden laso for maximum use of the bottom-mounted metal. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $975.

Because the studs on the Valentino Rockstud Satchel are of a different placement and lighter weight than the Wang bag, I’d suggest using this one with the short handles to give a harasser a quick smack directly to the face. And then run away. Quickly. Buy through Saks for $2875.

Ok, so The Row Alligator Backpack doesn’t have any particular qualities that might help you in a fight, but its price tag does indicate that anyone who can afford it can also probably afford a driver and private security. If you’re going to carry around a handbag worth more than most people’s cars, you might want to think about acquiring one or both of those things. The Row insists that the bag is “price on request,” but it’s either $39,000 or $34,000, depending on who you ask.
Savage Beauty
So we finally went to the McQueen exhibition at the Met. We woke up early, and like everybody, we waited in line for an hour or two. It was so crowded inside. And it was so totally worth it.
The curation was perfect, from the layout to the sound design – it allows you to take a mind-blowing journey into the designer’s imagination. Emotion catches you and stays with you for days.
I was so moved that I asked for authorization to go back and take pictures. I hadn’t seen a lot of images of it and I knew a lot of you would not be able to experience it. And it looks like the exhibition won’t travel. What will stay is a wonderful catalogue and beautiful memories…
When Nancy Chilton, from the Met, told me I would be able to go back to take some pictures, I literally jumped for joy. I would like to thank her again for that honor.
These images are just a tiny part of the exhibition. You’ll see the clothes that I loved the most, some striking details, a fragment of the wallpaper that was made from illustrations in McQueen’s sketchbook, and a picture that will give you an idea of the crowd that come to see the wonderful exhibition – which at last count, was close to 600,000.
The exhibition will close on Sunday. Because of the passion and patience of the public, the Met decided to keep its doors open, for the last two days, until midnight. A first in the history of the Met.
I’ll leave you with the images. And please if you are in New York, go visit one of these evenings. No better moment to visit McQueen than the middle of the night…

Want It Wednesday: The dress from Alexander McQueen’s Fall 2011 campaign
Images via Fashionologie
You all know that I’m an Alexander McQueen fangirl, but I love the entire line just as much as I love the company’s accessories. I’m particularly fond of the artistic direction that McQueen’s ads have taken since his company changed hands following his tragic passing, and the Fall 2011 ad campaign is yet another reassurance that Sarah Burton was the right choice to lead the brand. The ball gown above is just as astonishing in photography as it was in the fall runway show, which means that it’s the object of my lust for this week’s Want It Wednesday. Two more campaign images after the jump.

Designers seem to be trying to make velvet happen once again for fall, and despite being a child of the 90s and an unashamed fan of the era’s grungy, highly questionable fashion, I’ve been slow to warm to the almost-trend. I remember having velvet T-shirts and dresses too vividly in elementary school for velvet to be an automatic winner in my mind as an adult.
But I’m a McQueen fangirl of the highest order, which means that I’m willing to consider basically anything the brand designs with an open mind. As a result, I might kind of totally love the Alexander McQueen Wicca Velvet-Covered Leather Shoulder Bag. If only I understood exactly what “velvet-covered leather” means.
I’ve been at the whole handbag thing for a few years now, and in that time, I’ve seen almost every leather fabrication that you can think of. I’ve never heard leather be described as velvet-covered, though, and I have a few follow-up questions. Is the velvet somehow applied to the leather, or is it just a leather bag with a panels of velvet over it? Based on the pictures, it seems to be the latter, but I’d love it if someone could figure out how to make the former happen.
Either way, this bag appeals to me a great deal. The velvet is matte and lush, and thankfully it’s not the tacky crushed velvet that some brands have used (hopefully ironically). And you really can’t argue with this explosive shade of pink – heavily textured materials like velvet and suede tend to take rich color better than leather, and the end result is eye-popping. You win again, McQueen. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $1365.
PurseBlog Asks: Do you match your shoes to your bag?
I think of myself as something of a maximalist; the outfits I like the best are often the outfits in which nothing matches and everything stands out on its own. That’s also a quick way to look like a complete crackhead, but hey, I bought foot-long neon pink feather earrings yesterday. I got over any self-consciousness or fear of looking silly a long time ago.
Predictably, I am not a shoe-to-purse matcher. Not even close. What’s more, the practice of matching all of your accessories to each other strikes me as something that the retail industry cooked up a long time ago as a way to sell more stuff to a single customer. But what about you? My sense of style is hardly monolithic or “correct” in any way. Do you take a more positive approach to matching? Have you ever bought shoes because they were made to match your new bag?
If you like blue suede and matching accessories, the Alexander McQueen Chanter Studded Hobo and Alexander McQueen Skull Platform Pumps might be your speed. You can get them both, for $3150 and $1195 respectively, via Neiman Marcus.

Beat the seasonal transition with Alexander McQueen
Alexander McQueen Calf Hair Crossbody, $2345 via Neiman Marcus.
That would be the summer-to-fall transition, not the spring-to-summer transition that we’re all experiencing right now. Is all this talk about heading into fall driving anyone else crazy? Even though I’m the one doing most of it in these parts, it’s about to shove me right off the deep end, so I know that some of you have probably noticed. Fall seems like a distant dream with temperatures rising and the unofficial start of summer just passing mere days ago, but fashion waits for no woman, and Pre-Fall and Fall 2011 are everywhere.
The Alexander McQueen Calf Hair Crossbody might not ship until early September, but at the very least, it’s the sort of piece that you can wear immediately upon arrival instead of waiting for the weather to turn genuinely cold. That might be of little comfort, but summer in the fashion industry is deathly slow, and we have to talk about something. So fall it is!
Obviously, the best part of this bag is the fiery orange-red color. The color is seasonless and bold, and the gold hardware brings out some of the dept that would otherwise be lost. The haircalf texture also adds depth, and the result is a color so rich and attention-getting that I absolutely must have something in this shade in my wardrobe. I also wouldn’t be opposed to finding a nail polish in this color, and if my bank account is looking healthy when this little bag comes out, I might just add it to my closet as well. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $2345.
PurseBlog Asks: Which bag do you never, ever get tired of?
Alexander McQueen Gold leaf Metal Skull Box Clutch, $3295 via Alexander McQueen.
With the vast majority of handbags, I tire of a design almost immediately. So many beautiful options abound that I find myself in a constant state of “on to the next one,” and brands that rely largely on seasons-old products with only cursory changes from collection to collection grate on my nerves something fierce. (I’m looking at you, Chloe.) If a brand is going to charge four figures for its bags, I want something legitimately new.
But for some reason, I never get sick of the Alexander McQueen Skull Box Clutches. Part of that is because many of the new versions are wildly creative and do a great deal with the limited visual real estate of a box clutch, but that doesn’t tell the whole story; I love the plain leather versions too, even though I’ve been seeing them season after season for years. For me, these clutches are as close as it gets to a perfect product. Let us know which bags keep tickling your fancy, season after season, in the comments.

Celebrate the Royal Wedding with Spring 2011′s best bridal bags!
Judith Leiber Blue Bows Crystal Minaudiere, $6995 via Judith Leiber
Do you know what day it is? Of course you do, it’s Royal Wedding day! The ceremony started at 6 a.m. but your mimosa hangover will surely last into the afternoon, so while you contemplate why you got up before dawn to watch two strangers get married in another country (Go ahead, guess who among us doesn’t have Royal Wedding fever! But that’s ok, Megs has enough for both of us.), we thought you might also like to contemplate some pretty, sparkly, too-small-to-be-functional wedding handbags.
Wedding bags don’t have the rarified spot in bridal lore that wedding shoes enjoy (and for a rundown of those, check out yesterday’s feature from TalkShoes), but that doesn’t mean that they’re any less important for those of us who love purses above all other things in fashion. Plus, bags have the special distinction of being able to be worn by the bride or the guests, so long as those attending don’t choose all-white ensembles to go with their special little clutches. Our picks for the best, after the jump.
