Anything high-topped of mine is often paired with something cropped. I think that just sorta works for me. I believe the Bermuda short is one of those items every girl should have in her closet. As much as I love bum-grazing bottoms, I really love the classic longer silhouette too. This grey top is a sample from at least one year ago. I love the exaggerated arms and stiffer cotton that gives it a puffy, structured shape. Always a good thing in my book!

PurseForum Roundup – July 25

PurseForum Roundup – July 25

Who’s excited? It’s time for another PurseForum Roundup, our last of July. Summer continues to be sunny and fashionable on the PurseForum, and we are excited to bring you the latest selection of conversations and terrific bags. This week, we stopped in Christian Louboutin for a much-needed fix of hot shoes, and then dropped into Dior, where we found even more shoes (and bags). We also checked into the Jewelry Box, and we finished off with a rapid fire roundup of reveals. Come on along!

Multifaceted Ring

In The Jewelry Box, a couple of older threads got a “bump” up to the front page. A visit to the Van Cleef and Arpels Family Portrait thread led us to this eyepopping collection update from einseine, assembled with the help of her VCA PurseForum team! The Cocktail Rings thread, home of this marvelous topaz shared by ms piggy, had quite a few dreamy new additions – and if you love sapphires, you will love emem2′s fabulous new find and skyqueen’s beautiful new Ceylon sapphire.

Jade Rings

We also paid a visit to our jade threads, which Roundup readers may remember are among the most popular and fast-moving conversations on the entire PurseForum! The first jade-in-action shots have appeared in the brand new Jade: Stone of Heaven – Jade in Action thread, and our very active Jade sharing and chat thread has lots of new photos and conversation. Last but certainly not least, we found this interesting shot in the Jade Reference thread, a photo-only thread with something for everyone!

Dior Pumps

July has been busy in Dior, and we found not one but two shoe reveals this month – RK4265 shared this wonderful pair of runway heels (happy belated birthday, by the way), and DaosaBao wowed the crowd with her new black pantent stilettos, a sure-to-be wardrobe staple well worth the hunt. Just when we thought we had gotten over those beauties, we found another Daosabao reveal – this time with a touch of rose!

Dior Miss Dior Bag

On our way out, we caught another reveal of three gorgeous bags, including this elegant Miss Dior in brilliant coquelicot.

Christian Louboutin Collage

It goes without saying that our members love fashion, and fortunately for us, they also love to share. We paid a visit to Christian Loubooutin this week and dropped by Nolia’s Collection thread, where we found this pretty collage right along with some fabulous shoes and action shots. DariaD showed off a great pair of spiked sandals, which, although a tad menacing, are also absolutely adorable!

Christian Louboutin has entered the Nail Polish market, and our members lost no time in discussing this latest development. Also, So Kate fans will love this pair of sleek black patent 120mms our member itsjustabag scored this month, what a shoe! And (another) belated happy birthday from us to you, itsjustabag! Fans of stunning shoes will not want to miss this reveal of the Impera, a fierce and fabulous holy grail indeed, from laurenychu. If you are thinking about a new pair of CLs, why not visit the Sale thread to check for bargains at your favorite store?

Goyard Tote

We did a quick swoop around the forum to find some fabulous reveals for you, because we know you love them as much as we do. We haven’t visited Goyard for a while, and somehow missed new Sac le Chat. Lilpinkbunnies revealed the colorful personalization on her Saint Louis – if you are thinking one of these totes is in your future, you can find member feedback on this popular tote right here.

Alexander Wang Rocco Studs

Second stop on our reveal swoop, Alexander Wang, where the new mesh material is a big hit. Chloehollywood, hollywoodbadgirl, and Addy all revealed mesh bags this month, and we love this lightweight and sporty alternative to these bags’ deliciously smooshy leathers. We will be spending more time in Alexander Wang soon, to be sure!

Tod's Bag

We don’t often visit our Tod’s subforum, something we remedied this week with a quick visit on our reveal tour. We found this absolutely luscious reveal from Hogancollector – the D.D. Media bag in a scrumptious orange sherbet that almost immediately got a cream companion! YUM! If you are not familiar with this brand, we have a Celebrities and Tod’s thread that will give you a sampling of the classic styling from this design house.

Juicy Couture Burger Charm

Juicy Couture has hit some rough patches lately, but the news isn’t all bad, apparently. Thankfully, the charms go on, and the JC Charms thread has stayed busy. So today, we close with this staple of the summer barbecue, a teeny weeny hamburger from our own tatertot!

That finishes up our July series of Roundups, and we certainly have enjoyed spending the month with you. We hope you have a happy summer weekend and week ahead, and will be right here in August (!!!) for more bags, conversations, shoes and more! Thank you for stopping by!

Sport de Plage

I love the kind of quirky but very chic accessories that are popular right now with all my favorite designers.
It’s a totally unnecessary luxury – and that’s why it’s so perfect.

Click on the arrows to see all the photos – I don’t know why, but the Isabel paddles are my favorite right now (since beach paddle ball is my FAVORITE sport in the world, and throwing myself in the water like a crazy person is my favorite activity in the world) or maybe the Eres jump rope, just because the natural leather is so incredibly gorgeous.

What’s your favorite? Who’s up for a game of paddle ball with me?

On Anna: Swimsuit, Lisa Marie Fernandez; Sunglasses, 3.1 Phillip Lim; Watch, Swatch; Paddle Board Set, Isabel Marant / Swimsuit, Baba Jaan; Beach Ball, Alexander Wang; Sunglasses, Ray-Ban / Swimsuit, Mikoh; Shorts, Dolce & Gabbana; Jump Rope, Eres.

Yes, the ever pervasive and omnipresent ‘destroyed’ denim. I cannot even remember the last time I wore a pair of jeans without holes in them. These truly get better with age and eventually I figure they will disintegrate, but until then I’ll continue destroying them some more. And this Cameo leather tunic has got to be my favorite new-leather-thing ever. There are pouches in the front and a slight up-cut in the back. I have a feeling this will be in heavy rotation for some time to come!

Movie Night

A few weeks ago, I joined Miranda and Athina for a movie in the park. It’s one thing I really love about New York in the summer– there are always a million things to do, and I think its so cool to head to your favorite park, grab a blanket, some popcorn and maybe some rosé and catch a movie.

La Haine, a really good French film, was playing at Tompkins Square Park when we went. It was the perfect way to spend a summer night!

One of my friends recently asked me what my style trajectory will look like for the future. I told her I’d probably start wearing entire outfits in one color. I think I’ve already done this several times in blue, seen here, here, and here (these also happened to be the most re-blogged too) so I guess I’m onto something? Something else that is apparent is the reference to athletic wear. I like strong silhouettes which still retain some element of sex, refinement, and ease. Sorta garbled I know, but it’s just something I fall into. And it feels so GEWD.

All of these are sale items (some 70% off) so skip through to find out WHERE. HOW.

Laura on her way to work

I love heading to the studio in the morning. I walk, put my earphones on and listen to a podcast (do you know of any good ones?) cross my neighborhood, Washington Square Park and then Soho – and here I am.

What’s fun is that super often, a few minutes before getting there, I see my friend Laura – also on her way to work.
I’m always inspired by her outfits.

So, a second of inspiration, a big hello, and we’re back on our ways…

Black and White

thpshopcuffstherowbackpacklaperlabraFeel like I haven’t done one of these in forever! Really falling back on all things black and white lately. Now that I bounce around so much, I don’t really have a place to call home or a closet for that matter. So I travel lightly and when I do add things to my wardrobe, they are things that 1. serve both aesthetics and function 2. are high quality 3. can be dressed up or down. I just got my hands on this Row backpack and cannot wait for it to arrive! Also, the ever omnipresent THPSHOP.CO Bound Cuffs and our stackable rings in the Silver Twist.

Look Back

I love it when a dress feels as comfortable to wear as a pair of sweatpants.

It gives freedom to the movements – it’s super graceful and perfect for a summer day in the city.

It works even better if it’s all quiet in the front, and all drama in the back !

PS Michele is wearing an Alexander Wang dress, Saint Laurent sneakers, a Valextra clutch, Dior sunglasses and her bracelet is by Maiyet.

The Best Bag Deals for the Weekend of June 13

Today may be Friday the 13th (and Mercury may be in retrograde, so if you’re a superstitious person, you are probably hiding in a closet right now), but fear not – we’ve had nothing but good luck finding plenty of bag deals to tempt you with today. In particular, the SSENSE sale is worth checking out – the site recently added a ton of bags from Givenchy, Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang and beyond, and they’re in the colors and sizes that people actually want.

The Many Bags of Dakota and Elle Fanning

The Many Bags of Dakota and Elle Fanning

Dakota and Elle Fanning have been in the entertainment business since they were kids, and they’ve been in fashion almost as long. The young sisters’ angelic appearances – extremely pale skin and eyes, light blonde hair, innocently round faces – ingratiated themselves to designers immediately, and they’ve been sitting front row at fashion shows and starring in ad campaigns ever since. They are, in a way, the opposite of the Jenner sisters that we profiled last week.

When it comes to designer bags, though, the Fannings have a bit more in common with their raven-haired, West Coast compatriots. They all love Celine, Chanel and Balenciaga, for one. Check out the sisters’ full collections below.

narrow corridors

One of my favorite things about Morocco was getting lost in the never ending corridors that twisted and snaked around each city’s medina. Some were prettier than others (Essouira and Fes in particular), but all had that secret, clandestine quality to them which made for some fun wandering and even better pictures. Here I’m wearing a beautiful knit sweater dress from Blessed Are The Meek (a new favorite from Australia) which satisfies my penchant for 1. anything turtleneck and 2. anything smart-body-conscious. These pictures were taken in Essaouira’s Medina. The first set of images we got in this city were on a roof top; if you haven’t seen them already, go see them now! More pics of this dress after the jump!

Lea Michele Carries an Alexander Wang Bag in NYC

Lea Michele Carries an Alexander Wang Bag in NYC

Lea Michele has recently been making the press rounds in NYC to promote her new album Louder, her new book Brunette Ambition and, of course, the forthcoming final season of Glee. (Yes, she acts, she sings and she writes memoirs.) Here’s Lea carrying a black pebbled-calfskin Alexander Wang Marion Bag, which you can currently obtain from Barneys for $675.

Alexander Wang bags seem to pair particularly well with leather motorcycle jackets – we caught Gisele Bundchen carrying an Alexander Wang Diego Leopard Bucket Bag in an incredibly similar ensemble just a few months ago. You can check out all of Alexander Wang’s highly conceptual handbag designs from his Fall 2014 runway collection here.

eBay’s Best Bags of the Week – May 14

eBay’s Best Bags of the Week – May 14

This week on eBay, more vintage bargains caught our eyes, as well as some current styles. Train case? Briefcase? We have you covered! We also found a lovely, rare tote from Bottega Veneta, and we must have had mustard on the mind, because our Balenciaga find is a similar color; both are gorgeous! We have more surprises, like a fun and unusual bag from Hermès and a sleek tote from Alexander Wang, to round out our finds this week.

8 Reasons Spending $1,000 or More on a Bag is Totally Worth It

8 Reasons Spending $1,000 or More on a Bag is Totally Worth It

Sticker shock from friends and family members has probably happened to anyone with an interest in fashion or high-end handbags. They ask about your new purchase, they sheepishly ask how much it cost and then they shame you in some way for having the gall to be so extravagant, even if they aren’t blunt enough to put it in those words. Not only are we here to assure you that it’s okay, but we’re here to explain exactly why.

Even for those of us who are somewhat desensitized to fashion prices, handbag prices can sometimes seem a little bit silly. We’re nothing if not professional enablers, though, so if you’re doubting a future purchase or need to convince someone who has his or her nose in your business, we have some arguments that might come in handy.

The Best Bag Deals for the Weekend of May 2

Today, on our weekly search for the best bag deals the Internet has to offer, we came across tons and tons of beautiful texture. Snakeskin, lizard, calf hair – it’s all there! On top of that, there are some beautiful prints, like dots and leopard spots. If you’re a purist, fret not – we’ve also got some good ol’ flat leather weather for you below, and as always, all of that can be had for below retail. Check out this week’s picks, or if you’re looking for something specific, find out which sites currently have sales or discount codes via our Deals page – it’s updated daily!

Want It Wednesday – Think Pink

Want It Wednesday – Think Pink

When I think of warm weather, I think of pink. Some people gravitate toward yellow or orange, but I prefer pink’s diversity and versatility; blush is delicate enough for the first timid days of springs, and hot pink will serve you well through the hottest days of summer. And then there’s rose gold, which is an argument for the shade unto itself. For this week’s Want It Wednesday, the PurseBlog team compiled its favorite pink picks from around the web.

50+ Bags on the Arms of Our Favorite Supermodels

50+ Bags on the Arms of Our Favorite Supermodels

Models and great handbags go together like peanut butter and jelly. Some of our all-time favorite collection profiles have come at the hands of supers like Miranda Kerr, Kate Moss and Alessandra Ambrosio, and if there were a photo agency dedicated purely to documenting their daily outfits, we’d gladly delve into the handbag closets of even more models. Because there isn’t, though, we’ve decided to put together all that we could find from five of our favorite supers whose collections we’ve yet to dissect: Karlie Kloss, Chrissy Teigen, Kate Upton, Adriana Lima and Candice Swanepoel.

The results include over 50 gorgeous designer bag, including some super rare exotics (mostly courtesy of Ms. Upton, who seems to have used entire paychecks to buy things even most handbag lovers can barely dream of). The level to which these ladies are both genetically and sartorially blessed may cause a little bit of envy, but once you get past that, there’s certainly a lot of pretty going on below.

Gisele Bundchen Shops with an Alexander Wang Bag

Gisele Bundchen Shops with an Alexander Wang Bag

Gisele Bundchen was recently spotted leaving lunch at Nello in NYC to embark on a little shopping spree. She’s carrying an Alexander Wang Diego Leopard Bucket Bag, which was produced several years ago and is completely sold out. Gisele is a friend of the brand and has walked in Wang’s runway shows before (despite the fact that she rarely deigns to walk during NYFW), so it makes sense that she managed to get her hands on one. You can still find a plain black version of the Diego (which I would not think of as plain in any other context) at Bergdorf Goodman for $875.

Gisele is a supermodel who pops up on our radar a lot less frequently than Alessandra Ambrosio or Miranda Kerr, but that’s because she lives a more low-key (though no less luxurious) celebrity lifestyle. Nonetheless, it’s hard to speculate about a celeb’s bag-buying, designer-loving habits when they manage to strategically avoid the paps like Gisele does. We did catch her back in February at LAX with a chic, black Balenciaga Tube Shoulder Bag, though.

Spring has sprung, and with that, our bags are getting a little brighter and a little lighter as the weeks go by. Perfect Pairs: Joelle Hawkens and Alexander Wang (and Dannijo, too!)

Perfect Pairs: Joelle Hawkens and Alexander Wang (and Dannijo, too!)

Technically, this may not be a Perfect Pair, but I just couldn’t help myself. I was in the accessories zone. Sometimes all it takes is one accessory to ignite the perfect look, and that’s exactly what sparked this ensemble. For me, it all started with the Joelle Hawkens by Treesje Hunt Satchel, and the rest was history.

With its zipper edging and front detailing, this Joelle Hawkens satchel has a laid back, downtown feel that’s compelling. The size of this bag is practical and functional, and the tassel detailing is on-trend but not overwhelming. Its great price point and edgy allure makes this a promising everyday bag. To stay with this edgy vibe, I looked to no other then Alexander Wang. These calfskin booties add polish to this look while still keeping with the initial downtown-cool feel. For a finishing touch, I chose a Dannijo necklace that blends perfectly with the rest of this ensemble but elevates it a bit. I’m a girl who loves her jewels, so I had to add this hint of sparkle.

Never been a fan of geometry but loving anything geometric right now. I really love the mix of colors on this knit–totally screams summer to me. Can’t wait to pair it with my favorite cut offs and a pair of pearly white slip-ons (hello summer uniform). And this bag–so CRAY! I call it my mattress purse because of the tucking and general resemblance. 11 Great Ways to Start Your Designer Handbag Collection

11 Great Ways to Start Your Designer Handbag Collection

We get a lot of reader email asking for advice and recommendations, but the one questions we’ve received most consistently over the years are queries about what a young woman should choose for her first designer bag. Those questions are very near and dear to our hearts – Megs and I can both recount the acquisition of our first bags in vivid detail – and today, we’re here to provide answers both general and specific.

On the whole, most successful first-bag purchases are some combination of classic and recognizable. Discretion may be the better part of valor, but for almost anyone, the rush of that first fancy purchase is knowing that everyone else knows you have something fancy, at least in part. Don’t worry about being inventive or finding the Next Big Thing; just get something you love and that you’ll be proud to carry until you find your next big bag crush. Below, some of our favorites.

The Best Bag Deals for the Weekend of March 28

The Best Bag Deals for the Weekend of March 28

Another week down, another round of bag deals to celebrate the weekend! This time, we’ve got a nice mix of cute spring bags and neutral all-season classics, plus a deal of particular note. Now through March 31 at MATCHESFASHION.COM, you can get 20% off any of their Style Steals (that’s what they call their sale section) with code EXTRA20. The site has some great bags, as well as tons of clothes, shoes and accessories at already-impressive discounts that the extra 20% just makes that much better.

23 Best Bets from Spring’s Bumper Crop of Designer Backpacks

23 Best Bets from Spring’s Bumper Crop of Designer Backpacks

Don’t say we didn’t warn you, but over the next month or two, something confusing is going to happen: your favorite brand is going to try to sell you a backpack. Even if you’re not a student. Even, in some cases, if you haven’t been a student in several decades and you thought the designers you prefer knew you wouldn’t ever need one again. Whether or not you’re receptive to their pitch is up to you, but it’s coming. If you’re a contemporary customer, it’s already here.

When we’ve written about backpacks in the past, readers have seemed split in the idea, at best. Now that the trend has reached critical mass, with backpacks (or the euphemistically termed “sling bags”) appearing in Spring 2014 accessories lineups at virtually every level of the price spectrum, we want to hear if your opinions have changed or softened at all. Before you answer, take a look at the nearly two dozen backpacks below; some are brand new designs from brands who have gone all-in on the trend, others are familiar bags with double straps added by designers who seem to be hedging to see if backpacks are nothing more than a passing fad. (I’m betting on “fad.”)

Want It Wednesday: Spring Has Almost Sprung

Want It Wednesday: Spring Has Almost Sprung

Spring’s official beginning is just a couple days away, and although New York likely won’t feel all that spring-like until sometime in April, we’re feeling a little bit eager to season-push at the PurseBlog offices. For this week’s Want It Wednesday, we’ve rounded up the team’s favorite pieces for starting the new season.

Welcome to PurseBlog March Madness!

Welcome to PurseBlog March Madness!

You might have heard a whisper here and there about some sort of basketball tournament that’s starting this week. Most members of the PurseBlog team went to football schools, so while this may not be our time of year in a sporting sense, we believe in substituting handbags for literally anything in which we are not naturally interested. With that in mind, we’re proud to announce PurseBlog March Madness!

We’ve chosen 16 of the biggest handbag brands in the world at a variety of price levels, and we’d like you to help us determine the best bag brand of 2014. You’ll have two days (work days – even handbag critics need a weekend) to vote on each round, and once we’ve tabulated the votes in each bracket matchup, we’ll move the winners on to the next round to face a new opponent and a new round of voting by you, our readers. We’ll do this all the way until a winner is crowned!

Life x Love

Author’s note: Mom, don’t read this.
Everything about this guy seemed ideal: he had a genuine interest in the mundane details of my day, a career and a regular flossing habit.
Everything, that is, until we had sex.

Sex with him was like playing opposite day with a Cosmopolitan article: silent (not even a single moan? c’mon!), fast (“Have you seen a doctor about this?” fast), boring (there are other positions, you know) and embarrassing (of all words you could string into a sentence after, “I” and “am” and “sorry” are just about the worst picks).

I gave the failing sex a pass for a few weeks. Maybe he was nervous. Maybe it was me. Maybe I could teach him. Maybe I needed to be more vocal with my wants and needs and “a little to the right.” Maybe it would get better. Maybe we just haven’t found our rhythm yet. I rationalized and sympathized for as long as I could.

But it didn’t get better, and the more times we had sex, the less interested I became. By the time my next rent check was due, my sex drive disappeared altogether (come back! where did you go?) and numbness, not to mention a tiny bit of spite and dread, set in. Suddenly I was claiming exhaustion and headaches and “I think I’m getting a cold.” The more we discussed what was going wrong, the more I wanted nothing to do with it, and ultimately, him.

Which brings up a touchy subject: Is bad sex a deal breaker? At first thought it seems so shallow. But what about his steady job and solid education, you ask!

Untimately though, I kept coming back to the question, “Can I live with bad sex forever?” And the answer, after a half-second of soul-searching, was a resounding, shout-it-from-the-rooftops no, never, nuh-uh, absolutely not.

To his disadvantage, when he and I started dating, I was still licking my wounds from a particularly painful breakup — a breakup with a long-term boyfriend who was the best in bed. That’s a tough act to follow, no matter how skilled you are in bedroom tricks. But here’s hoping he figures out what makes both him and a lady feel good. Because, really, his teeth are far too perfect and plaque-less to be single forever.

Balenciaga Riffs on Shopping Bags for Fall 2014

Balenciaga Riffs on Shopping Bags for Fall 2014

During a runway show, you don’t expect to see models carrying shopping bags. Despite the fact that women who can afford the clothes that debut at shows like that of Balenciaga Fall 2014 often find themselves carrying shopping bags, most runways try to divorce themselves as much as possible from the drudgery of actually selling clothes, all the way from the performance-art settings to the impracticality of the garments therein. One thing that Balenciaga creative director Alexander Wang is exceptionally good at, though, is moving product, and his Fall 2014 bags are something of an ode to that.

From a distance, it’d be difficult to guess that these bags were anything more than vessels for carrying other very expensive things, but up close, the details come into stark relief, especially on the crocodile versions. The handles, instead of twisted paper or webbing, are fashioned out of super-industrial metal cord, the kind you’d expect to see in a lever-and-pulley situation. Structurally, the bags are faithful to their inspiration, right down to the concave gussets and folded bottoms. Whether or not a bag with such common inspiration can successfully fetch designer prices in large numbers is somewhat questionable, but these are definitely the most luxurious shopping bags I’ve ever seen. (Yes, they even beat out Chanel’s shopping bag purse.)

Blast from the Past

Caroline Trentini, I’ve missed you.

When I first spotted her on the model lineup backstage at Alexander Wang and my heart skipped a beat. I love her.

I stalked tried to find her backstage but in the sea of bleached brows she was no where to be found. And now this week she popped up (with my other favorite supermodel–GISELE!) at Balenciaga.

Glad to have you back girlfriend.

The Stream

Last Friday, I got sick.
Like – can’t get out of bed, moaning and groaning, Viber my mom* sick.

Great, no? Especially the day after – it was the beginning of Fashion Week.

I canceled everything that night, telling myself that the next day, I’d surely be back to normal, alive and kicking, and better dressed than Anna Dello Russo – you know, like usual.

Blah. After spending a very glamorous night figuring out that I definitely had the stomach flu**, I realized the next few days were not going to go like I had imagined – starting with champagne at 10AM and ending with dance parties with my best friend, Alexander Wang ***

So I went back to bed.

Pffff, what could I do? It’s not like I could really work at home. I tried working on my book, but as you know, when you’re sick, you’re not just physically out of it, you’re also completely wiped out intellectually, and the only three words I managed to write after two hours in front of my computer were Pepto and Bismol****.

That was even one of my Google searches – that’s how slow-mo my brain was.
(Ok, I also wanted to know how many gallons of Pepto Bismol I could ingest without overdosing. Answer: NO)

The situation was getting serious. With my cloudy head and an increasing FOMO, I told myself there was only one thing left to do: live the passion of fashion through the Internet.

So I poured myself a champagne glass full of Pepto and opened up my computer.

It was time for the Altuzarra show.

I typed #altuzarra on Twitter and Instagram, and suddenly, I found myself propelled backstage.
Make up – check, a little glitter on the eyes, cool! Ok, I see, I see, casting, ok great.

Altuzarra Makeup Backstage Photo

A few minutes later, I checked out one of my favorite things – the front row. No, seriously, because it’s actually one of the important things when you go to a show. You want to see what’s happening in the front row.

Who’s there? Who are they with? How are they dressed? Are they thinking of me?

And once again, with the Internet, all you have to do is ask, and there it is. Which outfits do I always want to check out? Jenna Lyons, of course. Well, kids, all you have to do is ask our friend Marina Larroude (big air kiss to you, darling):

And then the show. I don’t need to describe it for you – you already know. It’s a storm of blurry photos, one-legged models, everybody loves everything, and hashtags all over the place, but even so, I’d rather be there to judge for myself. The music is missing, the atmosphere is missing, and a crappy little Insta video isn’t going to change that.

So I’m left hungry for more – um, so to speak, since, let me remind you in case you might have forgotten already, I have the STOMACH FLU.

Since that’s just the way it is tonight, I decide to test out Alexander Wang’s live stream.

Night has fallen. I’m still a mess, but less mobile, I’ve got dark circles from my eyes down to my neck, my hair is flat, and I’m just as stylish as a streetstyle photographer in New York in February*****, but nobody cares – I’m all alone at home and in two seconds, I’ll be in the fucking front row of the ALEXANDER WANG show, bitches! (I sound like Kanye, right? What? Should I not be doing that?)

Even Scott abandoned me, the bastard. It was no use trying to convince him to stay with my whimpering and little episodes of hyperventilation ( = I’m about to die right this minute! Help!) You don’t miss Alexander Wang unless you’re at death’s door, ladies and gentlemen.

So back to Champa-Bismol!

It’s 8:30, and the live stream is starting.

Oh, gawd.

As soon as it starts, a strange feeling comes over me – I feel like a major, major voyeur. If Instagram gives us a window into other people’s lives, live stream seriously feels like teleporting into the room with them, like…

I start to feel dizzy. I can see who’s sitting with whom, what they’re wearing, and when.
At one point, the camera zooms in on Kate Davidson Hudson texting on her phone, and frankly, if the cameraman hadn’t zoomed out right then, I could have read her text.
It’s amazing, I’m fascinated. I love it.

Ok, obviously there’s some kind of annoying music playing over everything, because if we could hear people talking, I think it would be fashion Armageddon. You can imagine what kinds of things people say, right – it’s not for everybody’s ears… like in school!!!

Absolutely no one at the show is aware of the camera’s presence, by the way.

I see a guy yawn out of boredom three times in a row (it really wasn’t necessary to film those moments, dear livestream cameraman); I see Bryan Boy arrive in pajamas; I see Caroline de Maigret sit down next to Karen Elson, and I admit, just telling you this freaks me out, I even recognized Fabien Baron FROM BEHIND. Fabien, if you’re reading this – don’t worry, I’m not stalking you. I don’t know what happened; I just knew it was you all of the sudden.

And that’s when Alex, who had also decided to watch the show on livestream, sends me a text. Here are a few highlights from our conversation.

“What? Karen Elson has a Blackberry?”

[Our text converstions are always profound, politically relevant, and bolstered by our encyclopedic knowledge of fashion, as you can imagine.]

“Oh, look, Scott just arrived. What is he doing? OMG, wouldn’t it be so great if I always had a little camera following him around?
“Ok, no, that would be horrible.”

“Oh, shit, it’s starting.”

“Is that the real music?”

“Yep, I heard it 23 times when I was backstage this afternoon”
“Oh, my dad would love that! Cargo pockets and cartridge belts for when he goes hunting”
“I love the boots”

[The camera zooms out, showing panoramic views, then zooms in so close that you can see the texture of the clothes perfectly. Honestly, the view is better than in any front row.]

“Wait, what are those boots?!”

“Well, they’re…um, they look like shin guards”
“OMG BaCKleSS???”

“OOH!!! They’re mules!!! Mule-boots!!! Boots in front, mules in the back!”
“Bootles? Myoots?”
“Those colors are interesting, what is that material?”

“It’s a material that reacts to heat, I heard.”
“I’m looking for Caroline Trentini, I saw her listed backstage, she’s in the show!!! #flashback2008.”

“You’ll see – she’ll come out at the end. It’ll be the big finale, with all the blow-your-mind, killer top models”

“Ah yeah you’re so right!!! But what..
“They all painted their hair black, wait, who’s that?”

“Joan Smalls”

“Nope, not here. Those bleached brows are impossible…”

“Ok, well, it’s over?”

Et voilà, the show finished and I re-teleported back to my place. Frankly, it was a pretty hallucinatory experience and I would do it again no problem.
The next day, I talk to people about the show as though I had been there, then suddenly remembered that I hadn’t been there in fact – except when they told me about how long it took to get to Brooklyn (yes, this year the Wang show was in Brooklyn, and Scott got home, exhausted at 11pm, that is to say, about 2 hours after the show ended because of the bad weather and traffic jams*****).

It’s really something to think about, this livestream thing, even if I will always be delighted, enchanted, amazed to go to an Alexander Wang show, even if it was in New Jersey, hein, hein, hein ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) (the girl who doesn’t want to be disinvited) (“Yes, we saw that you appreciated our Livestream so this season here’s a ticket to see our show… From your couch bitch!!!) Argh.

Ah, but before leaving, let me send a personal message to my fash packitude fellows.
Friends, watch out. THE WORLD IS WATCHING. No yawning, no bitching, no texting stupid pictures, no pretending to be busy when you’re actually playing Flappy Birds, and use some moderation on the air kisses. Ok?

Big kiss!!!

PS: The next day, I was a little more alive and kicking (not exactly) (and had gained back my kilo) and started out for real life.
Mais bon, from where I’m sitting next time, maybe I could watch the livestream from my seat AT the show? If I’m sitting beside the door in an area where you can only see the back of the model by craning from my seat?

Ah shit, modern life.

*Yes, my mom and I speak on Viber. And she sends me tons of emojis!!! I’m going to send her the Bazaar Emojis, hang on.
**No, to answer the question that everyone asks when I say that, I didn’t lose three kilos “thanks” to my stomach flu, just one. Pfffff, the flu, it’s like How I Met Your Mother: not what it once was.
***And by that I mean coffee so as not to freeze your fingers taking pictures and parties head to head with my computer, my true best friend.
****A slimy type of American medicine that tastes like cherry tagada that helps, ummmmm, what I had, which, I’m not going to make you a drawing oooohhhhh.
***** = Not Stylish at all, it’s too cold.
******Bon, ok, between the time I had asked him to buy me some rice and bananas at the deli to do my BRAT diet recommended for stomach issues, (IN CASE I COULD FINALLY LEAVE YOU IN PEACE WITH THIS STOMACH FLU THING, I TOLD MYSELF THAT I WOULD ADD A LITTLE EXTRA AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE) (Banana Rice Apple sauce Toast.)

Alexander Wang Goes Ultra Utilitarian for Fall 2014

Alexander Wang Goes Ultra Utilitarian for Fall 2014

As all fashion watchers know, the clothing and accessories that grace fashion week runways is generally the most experimental and forward-thinking of the full line of items that any designer will eventually offer in a particular season. It’s important to keep that in mind when you see the Alexander Wang Fall 2014 Handbags, which debuted over the weekend in a show that hilariously required a bunch of fancy fashion people to schlep to the Brooklyn Navy Yards. The accessories were as utilitarian as the venue would suggest.

Wang’s runway bags are always a little weird and rarely represent the bread-and-butter designs that the brand expects to be the season’s accessories focus. Instead, they’re more conceptual, and Wang’s Fall 2014 concept is all about the things that women carry inside of their bags. The designs range from clutches to multi-bag shoulder slings, and they all have articulated compartments for everything from compacts to water bottles, complete with lock and key to keep the carrier’s essentials safe. The clutches and small crossbodies will likely be popular with the downtown set; the larger versions might be a tougher sell.

Outfit of the Week: Lydia Deetz Goes to the Beach

Outfit of the Week: Lydia Deetz Goes to the Beach

If I had a white flag, I’d wave it. I’m done with winter even if winter isn’t done with me. I thought that picking out an ideal beach look for the vacation that I’m going on in my head might be a good way to alleviate some of the stress associated with knowing that I’m going to leave the office in a few hours and go outside into temperatures in the teens, but then I remembered that I am not exactly an ideal beach-goer, either, what with my pale skin, love for black and tendency to perspire.

I pretty much always look a little like Daria or one of her entertainment-world kin, with my heavy boots and dark wardrobe and creatively colored hair, but that comparison is never more apt than when I’m put on a beach with hundreds of people wearing bright bathing suits and wildly printed cover-ups. In that context, I am more or less Beetlejuice heroine Lydia Deetz, made famous by late-80s Winona Ryder, and dammit, Lydia Deetz wants to go to the beach today. (Fun fact: I’ve never seen Little Women or read Anne of Green Gables or any of that adorable girlchild stuff, but I watched Beetlejuice literally dozens of times as a kid, which probably explains some of my present-day sartorial choices.)
