The Best Bag Deals for the Weekend of May 3

Now that May, glorious May, has finally arrived, things around here seem to be heating up for good, finally. That also means we’re inching ever closer to summer sale season, and although it’s not here quite yet (be patient, my friends), retailers are starting to mark things down here and there to try and move through spring’s finest wares. That means that the bags you’ve been coveting all season long might be a little more affordable than they once were, and as we always do on Fridays, we’ve scoured the Internet to see if today is your lucky day.

15 clutches to get you through wedding season

15 clutches to get you through wedding season

If my Facebook and Instagram feeds from this past weekend are any indication, wedding season has officially arrived. If you’re ill-prepared for the festivities you’ll face over the next few months, you’re probably not alone – figuring out what to wear to a wedding can be a little tricky for anyone who lacks a closet full of perfect spring dresses and coordinating clutches. Because that might not be you (and it’s certainly not me), we hunted down the types of handbags you’ll want to be carrying to spring and summer nuptials, and they range in price from less than $50 to more than $2,000. (You know, just in case some cousin of yours decided on a crazy destination wedding that’ll cost thousands just to attend.)

Naturally, there are a few things you’ll want to look for, especially if you want to get a full wedding season (or two – no reason you can’t still use these bags next year) out of your clutch purchase. First, pick something relatively neutral. That doesn’t mean that the clutch can’t have a print – in fact, prints work beautifully on small bags because they don’t overpower an outfit or a printed dress – but pick something in a color or colors that’s season-appropriate and not too trendy. Second, don’t be afraid to have a little fun; weddings are a great opportunity for whimsy and girlishness that might feel too precious elsewhere.

12 Black and White Bags to Get You Into One of Spring’s Most Sophisticated Trends

12 Black and White Bags to Get You Into One of Spring’s Most Sophisticated Trends

It seems like we’ve been talking about black-and-white bags forever, but based on the current slate of neutral, bicolor bags that have now arrived in stores for spring, the trend has only just begun. We gave you a rundown of nine styles to get you started on the right path back in January, but now we’ve got another dozen that you should consider now that spring has arrived. If you’re looking for an office-appropriate bag for warmer weather or just want your weekend looks to be a little more sophisticated than neon or raffia allows, we’ve got some suggestions.

The charms of black-and-white bags are many and varied: a wide swath of black leather makes the bags’ white elements seem less precious and fragile, the combination of the two colors manages to be simultaneously professional and trendy, combining dark and light neutrals generally creates a seasonless bag that you can carry for a long time to come. What’s nice about the particular combination of black and white, though, is that it lends a note of modernism that’s very fashionable right now without making anyone commit to a minimalist look; it can fit in with almost any aesthetic. Below, we’ve selected some of the best on the market right now.

Flared gusset bags still going strong, not going away

Flared gusset bags still going strong, not going away

If this post seems like deja vu, you’re not entirely wrong. Over seven months ago, we wrote about how the flared gusset, made popular by Phoebe Philo at Celine and the brand’s now-inescapable Luggage Totes and Trapeze Bags, had turned into a full-fledged trend of its own. As spring bags flooded into stores, I couldn’t help but marvel at how many bags are still embracing the look, particularly now that Luggage Totes themselves are no longer as difficult to get as they once were. Over at Business of Fashion, they noticed the exact same phenomenon.

In the BOF piece, Bergdorf Goodman’s Linda Fargo even goes so far as to favorably compare Celine to Hermes, and when a fashion retail heavyweight like Fargo uses those words, they’re not to be taken lightly. As Celine’s gussets get seemingly wider and wider, expect to see the brand’s influence in the realm of handbag design widen as well. Below, we’ve rounded up some of the best new options on the market for spring that will get you on board with the trend without requiring that you fly to New York to visit the Celine Madison Avenue mothership.

The Best Bag Deals of The Weekend of March 29

Happy Friday, you guys – we’ve made it another week! It finally got around to being sorta-kinda spring in New York City this week, so everyone on the PurseBlog team is feeling an extra pep in our step. Took long enough, right? Beyond slightly elevated (relative to last week) temperatures, this Friday also brings with it a fresh iteration of our weekly bag deals list. By now, you know the deal – we’ve done the sale shopping for you and found the markdowns that are worth your attention. Check ‘em out after the jump.

The Best Bag Deals of the Weekend of March 22

Today is officially the first Friday of spring! It might not feel like we’ve moved on to a new season in much of the US, but the calendar tells me so, and I believe it. (Maybe I just believe it because it’s too depressing not to, though.) In light of that, we thought we’d stock our weekly bag deals post with some rosy options to make your day a little bit warmer. If you’re looking for a bag to get you through the spring transition, many of these will do just that, and they’ll do it without emptying your budget for the rest of your spring wardrobe.

Make the transition to spring with Saks and Diane von Furstenberg

Make the transition to spring with Saks and Diane von Furstenberg

Spring might not quite have sprung outside (at least in New York – you may be luckier than we are), but it has definitely sprung inside Saks Fifth Avenue, circa the Diane von Furstenberg handbags. DVF’s spring bags have arrived in stores and online, and with materials ranging from raffia to lizard-embossed leather, they’re just the thing to get you through the seasonal transition and onto the right track for the weather ahead.

The bag collection is themed around spring wanderlust, and the bags themselves (an ever-growing part of Diane’s brand) are a study in how just the right note of color can transform a look. Most of the bags are rendered in combinations of ivory, grey, black and gold, but throughout, you’ll find notes of coral that make these easy-to-wear neutrals perfect for spring. If you’re more the type of woman who wants her entire bag to be the bright accent, well, DVF’s got a few options for you as well. Take a look at our picks from the collection below or shop the new DVF collection at Saks.

The Look Right Now: Studded Clutches

The Look Right Now: Studded Clutches

For some reason, I didn’t see this studded clutch trend coming. I don’t remember seeing a plethora of studs on the runway for Spring 2013, and heavy metal embellishments are usually more of a staple of fall collections (more on that tomorrow, actually). The more I thought about it though, these bags may have come about, at least in part, as a response to the enduring, perhaps even increasing, popularity of the Valentino Rockstud line, which has enjoyed seasons of success because of its smart combination of traditional femininity, luxury and toughness.

Some of these designers, like Alexander McQueen and Christian Louboutin, would undoubtedly be using the punk metal embellishments. For a brand like Tory Burch or Diane von Furstenberg, though, the Rockstud’s longevity is proof positive that women are drawn to the combination of two such disparate styles. Perhaps because bold details are more easily digestible in small amounts, the trend has manifested itself in tons of clutches, pouches and minaudieres. Below, we’ve picked the best, including plenty of colorful options that will make studs easier to pull off in the coming warm weather, starting at $128.

PurseForum Roundup – March 15

Well, PurseForum Roundup fans, we are halfway into March! Welcome to the March 15th edition of our whirlwind weekly tour of the PurseForum. Whether you are gearing up for Saint Patrick’s Day or laying low on the Ides of March, we hope you will find some interesting reads here. This week’s colorful Roundup includes a luscious purple Philip Lim Pashli, some vintage Mulberry bags, wildly inviting bedding and lots more!

3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli Plum Bag

PurseForum members who love fashion and Instagram gather in this thread to share artful shots of their bags using this fun photo uploader. This week, we couldn’t take our eyes off alicanna’s delicious plum Philip Lim Pashli satchel and scauri’s classic black Givenchy Antigona. If you cant get enough of the the Pashli, be sure to visit this thread in Handbags and Purses, dedicated to this fun and versatile handbag.

Green Glitter Manicure

Over in Nail Care, it doesn’t take much to inspire a polish change, and we were sure we would find some of our members wearing the green this week. Knasarae had some wonderful colors on her nails and shared some of her favorite greens. Longtime member frick&frack joins the green celebration with several fun pedicures, too. If you haven’t chosen a color for your next manicure, there are dozens of swatch threads to help you — perhaps ferretkingdom can help in the fabulous soak-off-gel color comparison thread? See you there!

Diane von Furstenberg Animal Garden Bedding

In The Wardrobe, myriad threads across the fashion spectrum contain styling and shopping tips to suit any budget. Member Outtacontrol picked up some fantastic Diane von Furstenberg bedding, and other members have selected some super stylish dresses this week.

Also, please don’t miss weibabbao’s great new leather-studded jacket. Elsewhere in the Wardrobe, Nanaz posted some new pictures in the Zara thread, CDC.LV4eva shared her new Mouret Dress, and new member jdg017 stopped traffic in the Rick Owens thread with an amazing jacket collection! There is never a dull moment in The Wardrobe!

Mulberry Hanover Bag

Have you visited the Mulberry forum lately? We peeked in this week to see what’s new and found members hard at work identifying bags in this helpful thread, where we spotted Mulberry Ellie’s beautiful Hanover, pictured above. This thread always has some interesting vintage finds, too, like this bag from member jj0. How are your Mulberry identification skills? If you need a primer, the Reference Library is a great place to start. We hope to see you there soon.

Hermes Birkin with charms and silk carf

Hermès infuses color into its bags and textiles like no other brand. Whether it is super-saturated jewel toned exotic leathers, or silk scarves in bold designs and palettes, we are always enchanted by the colorful offerings from this design house. In this thread, members artfully coordinate their bags and scarves, resulting in over three hundred pages of sheer delight. We love sissy milano’s pairing of her croc Lindy with the beautiful Lilanga design silk carré. Be sure and take in the sights of the “Equateur” as pepsimax pairs her black Birkin with this exotic motif on silk. (How many animals can you identify?)

We hope you enjoyed this week’s Roundup. Have a wonderful weekend!

The Many Bags of Vanessa Hudgens

The Many Bags of Vanessa Hudgens

If you like weird pop culture things, you’re probably eagerly anticipating the release of Spring Breakers, a film directed by Harmony Korine that stars people as varied as Disney princess Selena Gomez and Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane (in his cinematic debut, no less). I happen to love weird pop culture things, so to celebrate the film, we’re going to take a look at the handbag collection of Vanessa Hudgens, who plays one of Gomez’s debauched friends in film. If you like fringe, you’re in the right place.

Vanessa’s personal style is pretty much All Coachella, All The Time; when left to her own devices, she generally looks like she’d rather be sitting in the California desert and listening to some live music than doing whatever it is she’s actually doing at the time. I can’t say I identify with it personally, but if you’ve got a bit of hippie chick in you, this one’s going to be right up your alley.

You can pre-order a select group of Fall 2013 handbags straight off the runway at Neiman Marcus

You can pre-order a select group of Fall 2013 handbags straight off the runway at Neiman Marcus

How to translate Fashion Week publicity and excitement into quick sales has been a logistical problem plaguing the fashion industry for some time. By their very nature, fashion shows are showcases of clothing that has yet to be manufactured, but with almost every show imaginable streaming online and images up on Style.com within hours, they also provide a huge public window on new collections, and the public is not that good at waiting. Taking a note from pre-order pioneers Moda Operandi, Neiman Marcus now allows shoppers to pick from a tightly edited selection of pieces straight off the runway, which then ship as soon as they become available.

This is the second season that Neiman Marcus has offered this option, and although the pickings are a tad slim (perhaps a not-so-tightly-edited approach will follow in the future when the power of the pre-order is more widely appreciated), some information about Fall 2013 trends can be gleaned from the handbag offerings. First, I hope you liked Fall 2012′s oxblood mania, because it’s not going anywhere. Second, I hope you still like leopard, because it, too appears to be here for the duration. Check out the best handbags of the bunch below, or head over to Neiman Marcus to shop the entire pre-order selection, including clothes and shoes.

It’s going to be spring at some point, right? Not fashion spring, but Real Spring, where I get to feel the warmth of the sun on my face and, perhaps, leave my apartment without outerwear? This winter has seemed nearly interminable, and unfortunately for me, there’s not really a light at the end of the tunnel yet. There are definitely bags at the end of the tunnel, though, both for the lucky among us who live in warmer climates and those of us who are going to be dealing with winter weather for a little longer. The Many Bags of Beyonce

The Many Bags of Beyonce

With her documentary Beyonce: Life is But a Dream debuting on HBO this Saturday and her barnstorming Super Bowl halftime performance still fresh in the minds of almost everyone, today seemed like a fitting occasion to pay bag tribute to the one and only Beyonce. With the entourage that rolls with her and Jay-Z, though, I’m surprised that Queen Bey still deigns to carry her own bag from time to time. Surprised, but glad.

I’m also surprised by the sheer diversity of the bags that Beyonce carries. She doesn’t repeat designers nearly as often as almost everyone else we’ve profiled in one of these features, and her choices vary by price point as much as they tend to vary by brand. In Beyonce’s bag closet, there’s probably a little something to make everyone happy. I’d expect nothing less.

Early February is a bit of a weird time to be shopping. Most of the great sales have drawn to a close, but spring collections haven’t quite yet made their full thrust into stores and shopping sites. It’s even harder if you’re a sale fiend – there are deals to be had, but they can be few and far between if you don’t know where to look. The good news is that it’s my job to know where to look.

As I do every week, I’ve rounded up the best bag deals you can hope to find if you’re looking to do a bit of online shopping this weekend. Check out our picks below, and if you’re in the Northeast US, be careful in the inclement weather this weekend!

Spring 2013′s Best Bags Under $300

Spring 2013′s Best Bags Under $300

If I told you that loving handbags is an expensive hobby, it’d be preaching to the choir – you guys already know that a single glimpse of the perfect bag can put a dent in your bank account with a quickness. We spend a lot of time exploring the garden of earthly delights that constitutes the highest of the high end bag markets, and sometimes I completely forget that covetable stuff exists at the opposite end. With a little bit of planning, spending a couple hundred bucks can yield a result nearly as exciting as spending ten times that.

We understand if you’re skeptical, and in fact, we came prepared. Below, we’ve assembled a list of bags that might inspire you to splurge a bit (but not too much) in the near future. Everything from bright clutches to neutral day bags can be found for less than $300, and nearly everything we found is made entirely of real leather. Not too shabby, right? Go ahead, take a look – your bank account is already breathing a sigh of relief.

Black and White and Chic All Over: The Season’s Best Bicolor Bags

Black and White and Chic All Over: The Season’s Best Bicolor Bags

Now that Spring 2013 bags are starting to show up for pre-order all over the Internet, it’s time that we started talking about the season’s biggest trends so that we can all begin the delicate process of planning our seasonal handbag purchases. (I’d be lying, though, if I didn’t admit that at least half of the time, they’re a result of spontaneous lust instead of sound budgeting and a realistic appraisal of my existing wardrobe.)

If you’ve been studying your handbag textbook, you know that spring’s huge black and white trend has been a long time coming. Megs touched on a few bags that fit the bill back in September, and the new season brings exponentially more options for everyone who likes the crisp, modern, totally neutral look of a black and white bag. Check out our picks (for all price ranges) below.

The Best Bag Deals for the Weekend of January 11

Is it just me, or was this week the longest one ever? The good news, though, is that we’re all on mile 23 or so – we’re almost done! The other good news, of course, is that it’s time for our weekly roundup of the best bag deals to be found online. On top of our usual picks, we have an extra treat for you – at 11 a.m., our friends at Rue La La are launching a big handbag sale that includes Chanel, Hermes, Gucci, Balenciaga – all the best brands. These handbags will get you through the seasonal transition for less than $600

These handbags will get you through the seasonal transition for less than $600

Seasonal transitions are among the most difficult things to deal with in fashion. It’s cold in the morning, warm by afternoon and then cold again for happy hour, and who knows what it’s going to be like tomorrow? Do you wear your stuff from last season, or your stuff from next season? Some combination of the two? And what colors and textures won’t make you look like you’re stuck in the recent past or near future? Today, we’re here to answer those questions in handbag form.

There are a lot of effective tactics for picking a bag to last you through a seasonal transition. You can go with mixed neutrals, metallics, mid-tone brights, a mixture of neutrals with a bright accent – the color options are nearly endless, as long as you don’t go too light (except for winter white, which is perfect for transitions), too dark or too neon. As for textures, we’re always partial to leather, but exotics get a special mention, especially python, which lends itself to the kind of color-mixing that’s great for seasonal shifts. Below, check out our picks for the best ways to update your transitional handbag wardrobe without breaking your budget.

Beyonce takes her Diane von Furstenberg bag out Christmas shopping

Let us all take a moment to ponder the crazy-amazing Christmas that A-list infant Blue Ivy Carter just experienced (and has already forgotten). Photographers snapped celeb super parents Beyonce and Jay-Z exiting Mary Arnold Toys on the Upper East Side a few days before X-mas, where they were presumably buying some last-minute gifts for their one-year-old daughter. (What does one buy for the baby who has everything?) On Beyonce’s arm is the embossed croc and stingray Diane von Furstenberg 440 Bag, which you can snag at Shopbop for $895.

And because we know you’ll ask, those spectacular sunnies are the Prada Baroque Sunglasses. If you didn’t find a pair under your X-mas tree, you can treat yourself for $290 at Neiman Marcus. Sadly, those exact Marni pumps aren’t available online, but you can pick up a similar pair for $479 (on sale!) at Neiman Marcus. As always, if your stocking was stuffed with designer goodies, we want to hear all about ‘em!

Want to spend your gift cards? Check out these great bags under $1000

During college, I logged a few years working at the local Best Buy, so you could say that I’m intimately familiar with the ins and outs of the holiday shopping season. We all know about the first two phases – Black Friday, followed by regular gift shopping – but the third is less talked-about. During my time in the retail trenches, we called it the Gift Card Apocalypse.

The Gift Card Apocalypse starts on December 26, and it’s the time when shoppers come in with their Christmas spoils, whether it be a gift card or cold, hard cash, and clean out the store shelves to buy the things they didn’t find under the tree. We have a feeling that a lot of you are in the same position – in possession of gift cards to your favorite retailers that are currently burning a hole in your pocket. Lucky for you, we’re here to help. These bags, starting at $278, are all solid choices for anyone looking for something that can be carried every day. Brights, neutrals, pastels, colorblocking – we’ve got a little something for everyone, and it’s all under four figures.

The Best Bag Deals for the Weekend of December 21

The time for online gift shopping has more or less wound down, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to stop thinking about ways to treat yourself. After all, you deserve a little something for buying, wrapping, cooking and playing host to relatives that may or may not be the most insufferable people on the face of the planet. And if you don’t actually have to do any of that this year, well…count yourself lucky and reward yourself for some other noble feat you’ve accomplished. There’s always a justification for shopping.

It’s especially easy to justify a purchase when the object of your affection is on sale, so as we do every week, we’ve rounded up some of the best handbag markdowns on the Internet. Pick yourself up a lil’ present for after the holidays – even if you fill up on holiday treats, a new handbag will fit no matter what.

Your first look at Diane von Furstenberg’s Pre-Fall 2013 handbags

Last week, Megs and I had the pleasure of previewing the clothes, shoes and handbags from Diane von Furstenberg Pre-Fall 2013, and we’re excited to be able to give you a look at the collection’s full handbag line today – think of it as our early Christmas present to you! Thank us later.

You might have noticed over the last season or so that DVF is really getting her handbag game on lock. The collection feels focused and modern, but with von Furstenberg’s signature wearable glamor. Among the highlights are the sleek, colorblocked 440 Totes, which now comes in a mini shoulder bag version that I’m already coveting. Also keep an eye on the clutches – they start at $195, which makes a chic night-out ensemble seem that much more achievable. See something you’d like? You can expect to see these bags arrive in stores this summer. You can shop DVF’s current collection via ShopBop.

Diane von Furstenberg has her clutch game together

Diane von Furstenberg has her clutch game together

As we’ve mentioned around these parts quite a few times lately, clutches are more important during this time of year than any other. Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hanukkah festivities give way to glitzy gatherings for New Year’s Eve, and odds are that many of you will find yourselves carrying evening bags more often over the next three weeks than you do during much of the year combined. As we speak, I’m trying to mentally cobble together an outfit for tonight, including a clutch.

If you’re doing the same thing and coming up empty handed, I have some good news for you: Diane von Furstenberg has some truly awesome clutches available right now, and almost all of them can be your for less than $500. From a basic black flap clutch with a shoulder strap to a beaded globe on a wrist loop, we think she’s offering a little bit of something for everyone. Check out our clutch picks below or shop the full DVF assortment via Neiman Marcus.

Mercedes-Benz fashionweek Russia: day 1 and 2

_MG_6067-copia

Good morning from Moscow!
I’m here from Friday afternoon invited by Mercedes-Benz Fashionweek Russia and I couldn’t be any happier: this is not only my first time at Russian fashionweek, but It also is my first time in Moscow and in Russia in general.
On Friday afternoon and yesterday I had the chance to attend my first fashionshows here (Bessarion was my favourite one, but I also liked Goga Nikabadze, Maria Golubeva and Yana Gataullina) and the first exhibitions and presentations (loved Slava Zaitsev exhibition). Most of the designers are really young and very well organized, in the air you can breath enthusiasm and a lot of joy.
The venue of the shows is the Manege, the Kremlin old manege: a very big building in which Mercedes-Benz Lounge is also located.
I can’t wait to enjoy these two more days in Moscow and to discover more about the city! Any suggestions?
For yesterday’s fashionshows I wore a comfortable yet cool look: the main character is the new Diane Von Furstenberg gold lips satin clutch that I found on My-Wardrobe just before leaving, that I wore with a metallic skirt, logo sweater and new booties from three days ago in Paris. What about it?

Today is one of those really nasty and gross days. You know the kind; they suck out any motivation you might have had to be productive. These kind of days are the ones that encourage staying in, watching a movie (preferably a great RomCom, obviously) and ordering in dinner. You know, come to think of it, I now have my night planned. But I digress.

So, while I initially found myself in a bit of a gloomy mood today, all of that quickly went by the wayside when I stumbled across this Diane von Furstenberg Gracie Eclipse Snake Clutch. The bright fuchsia snapped me out of my gloomy mood and put me in a much better one. I mean, look at this bag, how could it not?

The color jumps right out at you, there’s no denying that. The interesting thing, though, is that I’m increasingly impressed with the bag the more I analyzed it. As I glanced over the details, I was really impressed with the fact that the bag is made of genuine watersnake and the price tag. It is extremely reasonable! Beyond the design and the price, this is just one awesome bag. The designs has a bit of a throw-back feel to it. At the same time, there is a definite hint of edginess, which I ,for one, am almost always a fan of. The optional gold colored shoulder strap is a perfect addition to the bag. This is actually a strap that I would put to very good use. As all of these components come together, I know for a fact I would get so much use out of this bag. Wouldn’t you? Buy through Bloomingdale’s for $475.

Pardon My French/Amanda de Cadenet

Today, I am taking you to the Diane Von Furstenberg show with Amanda De Cadenet, who came to visit New York (she’s an LA girl!) for Fashion Week. I love her point of view, her honesty and also the show she hosts, The Conversation.
On the show, she sits down for very intimate interviews with a lot of very interesting girls, the kind you can call only by their first names, Gwyneth, Crystal, Alicia, Lady (ahah), etc…
I thought if you didn’t know her already, I would be very excited to introduce you to her !

Ok, the thing is, the conversation was so interesting that only one question stays unawswered… Did we make it to the DVF show?

The subtitles will be online in 15 minutes!

Introducing Diane von Furstenberg Limited Edition Box Clutches

Introducing Diane von Furstenberg Limited Edition Box Clutches

All these years later, my all-time favorite DvF bag is still the Stephanie. I own two of these bags, they’re my go-to when it comes to traveling. I love that for this bag, the shape is crescent-like, which means it’s so roomy that it fits everything I need. Furthermore, every time I carry my Stephanie, people praise it. It should follow suit that DvF continues to pump up her handbag game; she’s churning out lust-worthy bags each season.

Right now, my attention is drawn to the Diane von Furstenberg Limited Edition Box Clutches, which are so cute and quirky that they’re giving Kate Spade and Olympia Le-Tan a run for their novelty bag money.

Whenever you see a clutch like this, you have to know right off the bat it is not the most functional. This is meant to be a statement piece that gathers attention, and while there is an inner compartment, don’t expect to fit much more than your ID, lipgloss, your phone and some cards or cash. The real point is for this clutch to accessorize your outfit, and that it will do.

There are three versions available on the DvF site right now, including a red heart shaped clutch, a round clock clutch, and a black and crystal round version. I like each of them, for different purposes and outfits. What I love most about each of these is there is a long wrist strap, which makes carrying easy and functional. The heart is $750 while the crystal circle and clock circle are $995 via DvF.com.

Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2013 goes back to the future

Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2013 goes back to the future

Diane von Furstenberg‘s clothes have maintained an almost staggering level of popularity for decades, largely because they’re so wearable. Diane has a keen sense for what stylish women want to wear in their everyday lives, and coupled with a somewhat attainable price point, she sells clothes, shoes and housewares hand over fist to exactly those women. The era with which von Furstenberg is most closely associated, though, is the 1970s – she launched her company in 1970 and introduced the iconic wrap dress in 1974. It seemed appropriate, then, that Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2013 would so strongly reference the shapes and colors of the era that shot its designer to fame. The clothes were every bit reflective of the jetset summer social schedule of a young princess.

At the same time, though, DVF’s collection looked forward. As we reported over the weekend, the runway show was dotted with participants and spectators (and Diane) wearing Glass by Google, a slim pair of glasses that takes in the wearer’s point of view with a tiny camera attached to the frame. The footage will be edited into a video that will debut on the official DVF YouTube page later in the week, but until then, check out the collection through our lens.

New York fashionweek: day 3

_MG_2104-copia

Photos from Sunday, third day of New York fashionweek: the morning started at Soho House with J Brand dressin room with Beth and Jeff, followed by Custo Barcelona, Diane Von Furstenberg (you have to see the video), Y-3 and Tommy Hilfiger shows. Diane Von Furstenberg show was the most emotional one, but also Tommy Hilfiger managed to catch my attention thanks to its big cream knits.
As I told you some days ago I had already in my mind the perfect look for the new clutch: comic sweater, similar to the bag, black shorts, comfortable sandals and hat on my head. Easy and street-chic.
My video reportage will be online in the afternoon on The Blonde Salad!

Semplice e street-chic.

Diane von Furstenberg and Google team up to debut Glass at Fashion Week

Over the last five years, the role of technology in fashion has absolutely exploded. Not only have blogs emerged as a huge force in the industry, but magazines are racing to bring their online content up to their offline editorial standards and brands are using digital printmaking, three-dimensional printers and a whole slew of other technological advances to enrich their clothes and accessories. This afternoon at New York Fashion Week, the intersection of tech and fashion reached a new point: powerhouses Diane von Furstenberg and Google joined forces to debut the much-rumored Glass on DVF’s Spring 2013 runway.

Still in its design infancy, Glass is a pair of (glass-less, ironically) glasses that captures the wearer’s experiences while he or she moves through the world. At the DVF show, wearers included front-row attendee and Google co-founder Sergey Brin, model Hanne Gaby Odiele and Diane von Furstenberg herself. All of the wearers captured the show from their perspectives, and on September 13, we’ll all be able to see the POV video that resulted on DVF’s official YouTube page. Don’t want to wait? Get a behind-the-scenes look on the official DVF Google+ page. Glass, meanwhile, is still in development, but I’m very interested to see what a fashion show looks like from on the catwalk and behind the scenes instead of in the seats.

Weekends are for relaxing, and that means drinks with friends, brunch with drinks and hopefully a little bit of shopping. (Try not to mix it with any of the aforementioned drinks, though. That’s where buyer’s remorse is born.) If you’d like to beat the summer heat and shop from the comfort of your own home, we’ve endeavored to make that a little bit easier by scouring the best online retailers to find awesome bags at a discount.

Our finds run the gamut of price ranges and designers all the way from Diane von Furstenberg to Alaia, and they’re point you in the direction of which sales you should be shopping to get the most bang for your buck right now. The Many Bags of Rihanna

The Many Bags of Rihanna

After two weeks of exploring the handbag collections of celebrities whose tastes run close to those in the fashion industry – really, does it get more on-the-nose chic than Miranda Kerr and the Olsen Twins? – we thought we’d take things in a different direction entirely and explore the accessories whims of someone who marches firmly to the beat of her own drummer. That girl, obviously, is Rihanna.

I really respect RiRi’s style, even if she just as frequently finds herself the object of the fashion press’ criticism as she does its praise. Unlike most stars her age, she has a devil-may-care attitude toward her clothing choices that often results in missteps, but they’re the sort of glorious, over-the-top missteps that hot, filthy rich, 20-something singers should be making left and right. In a world where most famous people are under the relatively conservative thumbs of a small group of stylists, Rihanna serves as a needed counterpoint. But what does she carry? We answer that for you after the jump.

The Many Bags of Rihanna spl133833 001 400x483
We’ll start with a longtime favorite of celebs with funky personal styles – the Alexander Wang Rocco Duffel, which Rihanna paired with an all-black ensemble. You can pick up the bag for $875 via ShopBop.

CFDA: The Final Recap

garance-dore

So, so so… I just woke up, and where were we ? Oh yeah, I left you in… The car, en route to the CFDA. Ok, let’s finish the story and after that I promise I will stop talking about all that.

6:50pm: Arrival at the red carpet. Super stressful, even though thanks to Cannes, I learned a little about red carpeting. We are guided through the “step and repeat”, that very awkward moment when you have to stop in front of a wall of photographers that shout your name.

7:10pm: Mini-interviews. I am so stressed, I am saying whatever comes to my mind, trying to look smart. Or I don’t say anything and I look at Scott, begging him to answer for us.

7:15pm: Filmed interview. The journalist is adorable and asks us : “So where does the Proenza and where does the Schouler come in?” We burst out laughing – and just say we think they’re on their way.

7:19pm: A glass of champagne before going on stage.

7:50pm: Time to go take our seats. It’s like I can’t feel my legs anymore.

8:05pm: And crap! My lips are dry. I need some balm. I look around me to see who I can barrow balm from. Around me, Carine R., Anna W., Glenda B…
I don’t know why, but I don’t think I’ll dare.

8:06pm: Idea! Go to the bathroom. There are always girls with balm in the bathrooms before a ceremony.
Scott tells me: Are you sure you want to go now? The show is about to start!!!”
My answer: Scott, this is TOO important!!! (??!!) I rush out.

8:08pm: Found the toilets. Oh no. Nobody’s there anymore. Gulp. Suddenly, Kate Bosworth appears, all beautiful in Altuzarra.

8:09pm: Yes, Kate does have lipbalm.

8:10pm: Back to my seat, lip balmed lips. Lights go down, ceremony starts. Scott and I look at each other, totally overwhelmed by what’s happening.

8:11pm: Diane Von Furstenberg opens the show. Funny, smart, comfortable.
I hyperventilate.

8:14pm: Seth Meyers is presenting the ceremony. Of course, the stage is like home to him. So easy! So FUNNY!
In 5 minutes it’s our turn.
I kind of want to call my mom to tell her to come pick me up right away.

8:26pm: Our video starts, the one with the clips you sent us.
My heart stops beating.

8:30pm: Pharell is on stage. He is so beautiful, all dressed in Comme Des Garçons. His speech is so sweet, I melt…

8:32pm: BUT HE IS CALLING US ON STAGE.

8:32pm: THE ROOM IS TOTALLY DARK, EXCEPT FOR A SPOTLIGHT RIGHT ON US. IT FOLLOWS US. ALL THE WAY UP TO THE STAGE. I think I can hear applause. But to be honest, I am not sure, I am in the process of dying.

8:32pm: On stage. Pharell gives me the award. I weighs a ton.

8:32pm: My turn.

8:32pm: It’s like an infinite black sea in front of me. And it’s like I have to dive into it. No, cause I just can’t stay here, with a spotlight on my face. No, it’s impossible.

8:32pm: I can also run away on the left. The door is opened.

8:32pm: No, I can’t. I hold on to the podium, and I dive.

8:32pm: I start saying my text. But the adrenaline must be too strong. I hurt everywhere. It’s so hard! It’s like each second is an hour. But I get to the last word, and then it’s Scott’s turn.

Thank you! Exit.

8:35pm: So here I think I am having more pictures taken and that I am answering interviews but I am not sure as I just died.

8:50pm: Back to our seats. My body still hurts everywhere. I feel I am going to faint. It will take me about half an hour to come back to life.

Reed Krakoff, Mary Kate & Ashley, Joseph Altuzarra, Tabitha Simmons, Billy Reid, Andrew Rosen, Phillip Lim, Tommy Hilfiger… And then it’s over. Time for a drink.

9:30pm: Many, many, many “congratulations!!!” people take our pictures, shake our hands and kiss us. I feel like I want to hide somewhere very far. Like in Corsica.

We “enjoy” for a little moment, and then we go to Rocking Horse, our favorite mexican, where we meet our team to celebrate with us.

10:30pm: Pfffffffffffffiou I am starting to relax.

11:30pm: After party at the Boom Boom Room.

11:45pm: We won’t stay long, we’re exhausted.

12:30am: “Baby, you’re firework!!!”

12:45am: “I keep on dancing on my own!!”

12:46am: My lovely agent, Delphine, is here to celebrate with us. And bam, she snaps a picture of me doing my crazy drunk moves. Hey Delphine, thank you for giving me an image for today!

1:00am: “Ain’t no mountain high enough, ain’t no valley low enough!!”

1:15am: “I just wanna dance with somebodyyyyyy!”

1:30am: “Live fast, die young, bad girls do it well!”

1:45am: “Come on, shake your body baby,do the conga!!”

2:00am: “Don’t go for second best baby, put your love to the test!!”

2:15am: “I’ve got the mooooooves… like Jagger!!”

2:30am: “Let me take you on an escapade!!”

Oh we ended up going back…

OK ! DONE ! Thank you so much for your support !!!!

Add some sunshine to your life with the season’s best yellow bags

Add some sunshine to your life with the season’s best yellow bags

Last week’s weather in New York City was pretty terrible. There was nothing but rain, fog and stifling humidity for days on end, and even when the sun did peek out, it only served to seemingly boil the moisture in the air. Suffice it to say, my hair was not happy, and neither was the rest of me. Generally, days like those turn New York into a wide swath of dark neutrals – black umbrellas, grey and tan rain coats, black Hunter boots. I just can’t deal with that kind of monochrome city, and naturally, my favorite cure for the rainy day blahs is a sunshine-y bright bag.

And so, we present you with our picks for the seasons best in cheerful yellow. No matter whether the weather where you are is dreary or pristine, yellow provides a jolt like no other. For people who are slow to embrace the shade because it doesn’t flatter their skin tones, a bag is the perfect way to give it a shot – your bag and your tan don’t need to go together in the same way that your clothes need to bring out your best undertones. Check out our full list after the jump.

MINI Ray Line: video and party

A short break from Coachella and Palm Springs photos to show you some shots of MINI party at Statale university last Thursday night (with Scholten & Baijings exhibition), and the video of the complete experience of salone del mobile driving MINI Ray Line, looking for colours. Do you think we accomplished the "mission"?
Enjoy!

Enjoy!

TheBlondeSalad-44716-copia

First shots of yesterday night Tommy Hilfiger party for the charity project Millenium Promise (I already talked about it here): I had the pleasure to spend a lovely night with friends and new people, and all for a right cause..
The first photos are about my Mac night makeup by Agostina: what do you say about it?
Soon also the photos of Mini party!

Gear Up for Warm Weather: The Season’s Best Crossbody Bags

Gear Up for Warm Weather: The Seasons Best Crossbody Bags Crossbody Bags

As you may have noticed, we didn’t do any posts about “Coachella style” around here. There are a few reasons for that: First, feathers + fringe + denim cutoffs does not = style. You only have to see so many pictures of Vanessa Hudgens in her day to day life before you realize that those sorts of looks don’t work when you’re not stoned in the middle of the desert, which means that I’m not going to try to force them on you, even if it is an easy post to write. Second, Coachella is an event that only a relative handful of people attend every year; isn’t having good summer style overall a much more worthy topic of conversation?

That’s why we’ve created our ode to the best summer bag option of all: the crossbody. Lightweight, completely hands-free and mostly small enough to carry off a bright color or a zany exotic print, you’ll be attached at the hip with the Best Crossbody Bags of Spring 2012 (almost literally) after all of the gossip chatter about celebrities at Coachella has long faded. Music festivals come and go, but a great bag is forever (or at least for a season for two).

The Best Bags of Spring 2012 Under $600

The Best Bags of Spring 2012 Under $600 Spring Bag Bargains1

It’s hard enough to find the perfect handbag without a budget in mind; the irritation that goes into fitting the perfect accessory purchase into a regular month’s expenses is exponentially worse. We usually like to highlight the most drool-worthy fantasy pieces in the handbag world, but fret not, we never forget that our readers represent a wide range of incomes and budgetary needs. Not to mention that Megs and I both appreciate a relative bargain too…

Like we do every season, we’ve scoured the Internet to pick out The Best Bags of Spring 2012, but with one caveat – they all have to be under $600, which many contemporary brands used as a de fact price ceiling. What have we found for Spring 2012? Lots of pastels, a few brights and plenty of lovely leather goodness to go around.

The Best Bags of Spring 2012 Under $600 Oryany Reese Leather Satchel
I have quite a personal affinity for most of the bags in this selection, but the Oryany Reese Leather Satchel is among the very best values, in addition to being chic. Not only is this all-leather bag less than $400, but it has a very Gucci vibe for a very un-Gucci price. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $398.

The Best Bags of Spring 2012 Under $600 Longchamp Le Pliage Cuir Medium Satchel
The Le Pliage in nylon is a handbag classic, but the Longchamp Le Pliage Cuir Satchel gives the whole design new life in soft, slouchy leather. This shade of blue absolutely blows me away. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $590.

The Best Bags of Spring 2012 Under $600 Cleobella Cantina Medium Bag
It seems like everyone’s doing “Coachella style” features lately, but really, how many people actually GO to Coachella? Still, if you’re trying to get that rich-hippie look, the Cleobella Cantina Medium Bag in magenta painted leather is a good way to do it on a budget. Buy through ShopBop for $165.

The Best Bags of Spring 2012 Under $600 Botkier Valentina Satchel
If you’re looking for an affordable everyday bag in one of spring’s trendy shades, look no further than the Botkier Valentina Satchel. Buy through Nordstrom for $395.

The Best Bags of Spring 2012 Under $600 Kate Spade Gold Coast Meadow Shoulder Bag
Pantone has named a reddish-orange color called “Tangerine Tango” the Color of 2012; if you want to add a bit of it to your wardrobe, the Kate Spade Gold Coast Meadow Shoulder Bag is a great way to do it without breaking the bank. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $398.

The Best Bags of Spring 2012 Under $600 Marc by Marc Jacobs Werdie Crossbody
Any of the bags from the Marc by Marc Jacobs Werdie line could have made this list – crossbody or satchel, solid or colorblocked, bright or neutral, they’re all incredibly chic and all significantly less than $600. My favorite is this colorblocked crossbody. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $300.

The Best Bags of Spring 2012 Under $600 Diane von Furstenberg Large Harper Envelope Clutch
Trust me, ladies – a big, bold day-to-night clutch is a bag you’ll use often once it’s in your lineup. The Diane von Furstenberg Harper Large Envelope Clutch is a perfect option. Buy through Nordstrom for $465.

The Best Bags of Spring 2012 Under $600 Rebecca Minkoff Quilted Affair Bag
If you’re looking for an alternative to the Valentino Rockstud bags that still has the same feminine-but-edgy quality, the Rebecca Minkoff Quilted Affair Bag hits the nail on the head. Buy through ShopBop for $495.

The Best Bags of Spring 2012 Under $600 Coach Poppy Leather Pushlock Satchel
Nothing welcome warm weather like bright, sunshine-y yellow, and for less than $400, the Coach Poppy Leather Pushlock Satchel gives you a ton of aesthetic bang for your buck. Buy through Coach for $378.
