These dozen bags prove that navy might be the next big neutral

Some trends announce themselves early and often; fur, for instance, is not only difficult to miss in even its most sedate incarnations, but fur bags have been paraded up and down so many international runways that you’d have to be actively avoiding the information not to know that every designer is going to try to sell you something fuzzy come fall. Other trends sneak up more quietly; you don’t hear them mentioned and retail stores don’t put any emphasis on them, and then suddenly there are navy handbags everywhere and no one is talking about it.

In most instances, navy isn’t all that strange a sight, but navy leather goods have never been as popular or as widely available as their black or brown counterparts. Done poorly, the bags and shoes (but especially the shoes) can look dated, but this crop of navy bags looks fresh and modern. The best part, of course, is that navy is a neutral – it’ll be super easy to work into your wardrobe, and personally, I’m particularly partial to navy and black together. To get the look, check out the bags below.

PurseForum Roundup – May 3

PurseForum Roundup – May 3

Happy May! We hope April showers are bringing plenty of May flowers to your garden. This week, we found some lovely florals in Louis Vuitton, an animal surprise in Mulberry, and a few other pretty springtime reveals throughout the forum. Oh, and some bling too! Come on in!

Louis Vuitton Articles de Voyage Floral Bags

Louis Vuitton started spring off right with the launch of Ikat Floral bags and accessories. Fans have been eager to share their purchases in the LV Clubhouse thread dedicated to this line. Sprinkles&Bling showed her love of May flowers with her new Neverful and wallets, and maye’s grand bleu version of the Ikat Floral Neverful, along with Fashon1s cosmetic pouch, spurred us to look further into these great LV Summer 2013 accessories. Be sure to also check out the LV reveals this week, too!

Miu Miu Buckle Bracelet

The PurseForum’s “Latest Purchases” threads are fast-moving, fun and always interesting. Whether it is a new piece we have not yet discovered, the incredible photographic skills of our members or the stylings and pairings we love to admire, these threads never disappoint. This week in the Miu Miu thread, Luxtan revealed a cute bracelet that we just had to share with our Roundup readers. Also, be sure to see the beautiful bags that helped sissalovebags celebrate her birthday! And, if there are any Miu Miu aficionados out there, TheMoustaches needs your help identifying a pair of shoes.

Mulberry Gecko Print

We love being surprised by designers—and of course a bit of whimsy is always welcome in our closets! In Mulberry, a conversation about the gecko-themed scarves pulled us right in, and these pretty wraps immediately stole our hearts. Members tortoiseperson and thelittlestar shared their purchases here, and we were enchanted. There were lots of handbag reveals in Mulberry this week, too; we particularly loved the grass green Lily that mulberryforbes round at the outlets! A gorgeous spring green bag at a great price, what a fantastic combination!

Balenciaga and Gucci Bags

Speaking of recent acquisitions: In Handbags and Purses, the thread dedicated to handbag purchases always tops the charts, and for good reason. We perused its pages this week and found some inspiring new bags, like this colorful quartet from craziepink and allyloupuppy’s beautiful new empreinte Speedy. If you are in the mood for a new bag and need some ideas, there is something for every taste and budget in this great, photo-rich resource. See you there!

Pearls

Sometimes we need help with an important purchase, be it a handbag, electronic doodad, or piece of jewelry. For the latter, the Jewelry Box is definitely the place to start. This week, we stopped by Designpurchaser’s thread on pearl color, where helpful members shared their thoughts on this all-important jewelry staple. CrystalDreams posted a spectacular and very useful comparison shot, including freshwater and baroque South Sea pearls, and tustin’s stunning black South Seas birthday strand is absolutely not to be missed.

If pearls are not on your shopping list, The Jewelry Box Reference Forum is packed with threads dedicated to all things bling, including colored gemstones, watches, Van Cleef and Arpels and more. Of course, the Diamond FAQ and Reference thread is right on Page One for all of your diamond needs. Even if you are not shopping, the Jewelry Box is sure to become a favorite stop in your PurseForum explorations.

Thank you for taking the time to share this week’s Roundup. We hope you have a terrific weekend and look forward to sharing our favorite threads with you next week! See you then!

Preview Gucci Fall 2013

Preview Gucci Fall 2013

For the past few seasons, Frida Giannini, Creative Director of Gucci, has brought the house back to the forefront of our minds. With a steely yet sexy combination, Gucci Fall 2013 focuses on constructed silhouettes with femme fatale touches on every accessory. The color scheme is deep and sultry, including wine, rust, moss green and cerulean blue. With great attention paid to detail, the accessories steal the show (along with the evening wear).

Shiny calfskin and exotic skins, including python and crocodile, create structured bags with archival locks which give a retro hint. Many know Gucci for its iconic bamboo handle, and this detail comes back in two styles and proportions as a focus for fall. This collection is strong, and I expect to continue seeing Gucci step up, which means more of us will be stepping up to purchase as well. Shop Gucci online.

Man Bag Monday: Gucci Leather and Raffia Holdall

Man Bag Monday: Gucci Leather and Raffia Holdall

I feel like I’ve delivered the “spring is coming” message a lot over the past six weeks, and although I’m sure I sound like a broken record, this winter weather has gone on so long that I feel as though I’m repeating as much to convince myself that it’s true as to talk about spring fashion. As I write this, it’s 45 degrees in early April and I’m about to set out toward warmer climates for a bit of a vacation, but to make it this far, I’ve had to completely give myself over to the delusion (it certainly feels like a delusion) that one day, the Gucci Leather and Raffia Holdall will indeed be a weather-appropriate choice for a weekend beach trip someplace local.

Wouldn’t that be the best? Leave work early on a summer Friday to head out on a road trip with a well-appointed gent who’s hauling your bathing suits and flip-flops in a raffia keepall that looks so much more luxurious than raffia generally is. If you or your dude are the kind of people who change your weekender and travel bags with the season (lucky you), then a dark but still summer-textured option like this one is perfect; it won’t show wear like a more common light raffia, but it’s still got the feel of a tropical vacation, particularly with the tanned leather accents. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $1,950.

10 Duffel Bags to Add Some Function to Your Wardrobe

10 Duffel Bags to Add Some Function to Your Wardrobe

Every couple of seasons, bag shape trends shift. Remember when everyone carried hobo bags? That was a real thing that happened. Over the past couple of years, everything from ladylike top-handles to small crossbody bags have become the must-have look, and we talked earlier this week about the enduring popularity of the Celine-style flared tote. What’s next? The duffel.

The easy functionality of the classic duffel makes a lot of sense with the current trends toward streamlined accessories. The new duffel lacks fussy embellishments and is generally without external pockets, and although brands like Louis Vuitton and Alexander Wang have been ahead of the curve, more brands than ever are jumping on the bandwagon for the season to come. Below, check out some of our favorites at a variety of price points.

The Most Expensive Handbags on The Internet

The Most Expensive Handbags on The Internet

By now, some of you have likely read Friday Night Lights author Buzz Bissinger’s instantly infamous GQ piece on his Gucci leather shopping addiction. (If you haven’t and you’re interested, you should read it, but be warned, the whole thing takes a bit of a strange turn circa page four.) I’ve known a few people with compulsive shopping issues in my time in fashion, but Bissinger’s story caught my attention because, for him, it all started online and eventually mushroomed into a half-million dollar habit. But how much damage can you really do with online shopping? As it turns out, quite a bit – we searched out the Internet’s most expensive handbags, and with these kinds of pieces, it wouldn’t be hard to blow through a couple hundred grand in an afternoon, let alone in a year or two.

The luxury assortment available online at any given time is inherently different from that which is available in stores. Chanel, for instance, would surely be on this list if the brand sold its wares online, but it doesn’t. Hermes and Louis Vuitton sell much of their respective assortments online, but the most exquisite pieces are reserved for in-store clientele only. Other ultra-premium leather brands, like The Row and Bissinger-favorite Gucci, put it all on the table for Internet customers the world over (and we love them for it). Below, you’ll find a set of bags not intended for mere mortals, but sometimes purchased by them while in search of a particular adrenaline rush that’s always just a few clicks away. If you know of a bag that’s sold online and beats out any of these, share with us in the comments.

Kering Stories

I was always interested by the business side of fashion.
It helps to understand what we see in the shows, in the stores, in the magazines… And what we wear and why.

I had always found that the PPR group was really compelling, be it for their brand portfolio, the freedom left to the designers or their approach of sustainability for example. And after meeting their team in New York a few times, I knew I really wanted to talk about it.

That’s why when the group asked if I would like to participate in their name change by making videos to show my vision of their world, I jumped for joy!
I was going to meet designers I loved, but also CEOs and their chairman, François-Henri Pinault.

It’s really a different type of work for me, sometimes intimidating because it puts me slightly out of my comfort zone, but I was asked to really stay myself and keep my ways.

I am very humbled by the trust and freedom that’s been given to me, and I am also very proud!

The group will officially change names on the 18th of June, it will now be called Kering and you’ll understand why when you watch this video, the first of a series of five.

Welcome to Kering and a huge thank you to the wonderful team.

When the trench makes the look

_MG_6356-copia

I have to admit it: I’ve never been a fan of middle seasons. I’m that kind of person that yes, can enjoy the half way, but not for more than two or three weeks. That kind of person that doesn’t even like winter times too much, or the one who can love them only to have a reason to drink hot chocolate, watch movies in bed, wear maxi sweater and colourful beanies. And also this for a limited time, and for a limited short time.
To explain in a few words: I love summer and temperatures above 20°, that let you wear all the combinations you want: booties with dresses, leather jackets with shorts, jeans with tops and sandals.
My “weather problems” grow when I’m in Milan in this season: we go from 5° one day to 17° the day after, from pouring rain to shiny sun. The most useful technique is layering, and in this case there is one piece of clothing which makes this transition from cold to warm weather easier: the trench. Perfect on a sweater, shirt or, like in this case, on a simle tshirt.
Able to give personality to all the look with a detail: you can find the one I was wearing here on Storets.

PurseForum Roundup – March 29

PurseForum Roundup – March 29

We have arrived at the last Friday of March more determined than ever to welcome spring, and so we shall. This week, regardless of the weather outside, we’ve scoured the PurseForum for signs of warmer days to come. We found an inspiring bag showcase, some tasty treats in the Kitchen, absolutely charming charms, and so much more. Happy Friday!

Gucci Purple Clutch

Bag showcase threads are such a blast. Have you visited the special subforum dedicated to these popular threads? We found a lot of activity there this week and really enjoyed Crazy8baglady’s wonderfully curated collection of bags and more. It was hard to pick a bag to headline this post, but we just love her pretty plum Gucci clutch. Do not miss this stylish and sleek watch, too!. There’s a lot more to see in the bag showcase, so be sure to visit often.

Tea and Dessert

It’s not quite warm here yet, but when we found GoGlam’s inviting al fresco vignette in The Kitchen’s “I Ate This” thread, we could feel the sun on our faces and spring in our hearts. Lazeny made a delicious cake for her husband, and Sweetpea83′s frozen margarita really hit the spot on our imaginary warm afternoon. This thread is always inspiring, so tell us: what did you eat today?

Givenchy Antigona Light Blue

The Givenchy subforum has been busy this month, and this week we took some time to see what members there are up to in the Action thread. Kiwishopper shared a classic black Small Antigona, and we got a much needed taste of spring when we spotted Sugar Cane’s gorgeous baby blue Antigona, styled beautifully. We found more great Givenchy finds and intel in this thread, including lots of colorful bags waiting for happy homes this spring in this post by Aluxe. Perhaps one is destined to go home with you. Happy Shopping!

Juicy Coutute Hummingbird Charm

Over in Juicy Couture, a brand new thread continues the love for Juicy Charms. Right off the bat, PurseForum member Juicylover kindly shared her updated collection and charming cabinets brimming with these sweet tiny treasures. Styling and storing Juicy charms remain popular topics, and we stumbled upon this “vintage” photo of tatertot’s hummingbird charm on her Balenciaga, which put us in a springtime frame of mind. Remember, these charms make great gifts, so pick up extras when you can.

Bottega Veneta Rings and Crocodile Knot Clutch

We always stop in the Bottega Veneta subforum, even though, compared with some of our other subs, it is somewhat subdued. Nevertheless (and we mean this with all sincerity), reveals in this subforum are always absolutely amazing. Case in point: this truly stunning crocodile stretch knot clutch and fantastic rings from Bottega Veneta connoisseur TDL. This picture-rich thread left us speechless. Be sure to catch the color comparison posts on your way to your boutique! P.S. If you love green, hold on to your chair before clicking here.

We hope this Roundup of the last week of March on the PurseForum has warmed you if you are still feeling winter’s chill. Onward to April, have a great weekend!

The greatness of the Gucci Horsebit Shoulder Bag

The greatness of the Gucci Horsebit Shoulder Bag

Lately, my relationship with and love for Gucci has been growing. The brand has always been on my mind and has always been iconic, but there has been a recent resurgence that brought back the house classics with a current twist and I, for one, could not be happier. I recently reviewed my Lady Stirrup bag, and now I’ve got nothing but love for the Gucci Horsebit Shoulder Bags.

I’ve spent the past few weeks playing with two versions of this bag, one in vibrant blue patent leather while the other in grey animalier karung-printed leather. The blue version immediately lures you in, but I find it a bit hard to keep clean and smudge-free, while the animalier karung printed option has my whole heart. These bags are beautifully designed, with a longer shoulder strap and plenty of room on the interior, but the exterior is what continues to make me smile. The leather is thick and durable while feeling ultimately luxurious.

As the weather begins to warm up, I find myself drawn towards lighter and easier-to-carry bags that won’t weigh me down, and these Gucci shoulder bags fit the bill. There are tons of different options available, and the addition of a great everyday shoulder bag will immediately update your accessory wardrobe. The best part of the whole thing (after the impeccable easy design)? The price. The blue patent leather version is $890 via Gucci, while the karung-printed version is $1,150 via Gucci.

You want one now too, don’t you?!

The Many Bags of Celebrity Basketball Fans

The Many Bags of Celebrity Basketball Fans

For some reason, celebrities seem to love basketball above and beyond other sports. I have a theory on why that might be: Not only is the sport quite popular in both New York and Los Angeles, but the indoor, controlled environment in which the game is played allows celebs to dress up and look good because they know they’ll be photographed. That seems to be especially true of female basketball fans; we’ve noticed that everyone from Cameron Diaz to Kim Kardashian shows up at basketball games dressed to the nines, and more importantly, carrying great bags.

We’ve looked through the courtside seats of some of the country’s biggest NBA teams to find all the amazing handbags that celebs have toted to basketball games, and today, with the start of college basketball’s March Madness and the NBA playoffs on the horizon, seemed like an appropriate time to share our findings. Even if you don’t like the game, it might be worth it to get some Knicks or Lakers tickets just to bag-watch.

Fill up your bags with these excellent small accessories

Fill up your bags with these excellent small accessories

Recently, we’ve talked about both the best ways to carry a clear bag and how to organize your belongings in a big bag, so it only seemed appropriate that we get down to the nitty-gritty of both of these subjects eventually. PurseBloggers, today is that day – we’ve scoured the Internet for the coolest small accessories, from sunglasses to iPad cases, and we’ve assembled them for easy judgment.

When we chose these pieces, we kept in mind that not only will they be seen when you remove them from your bag, but if you hop on the clear bag bandwagon, they might also be seen just any ol’ time. That means that no plain leather is allowed, but prints, appliques and visages of Karl Lagerfeld are all encouraged. Check out our selection below.

Skip the bouquet – the spring flowers you really want are on these 10 bags

Skip the bouquet – the spring flowers you really want are on these 10 bags

Not long ago, it was hard to find a good, modern floral print. Flowers felt a bit old-fashioned, and most bands passed them by for more futuristic-feeling geometric designs. Stripes, in particular, had a moment as the industry’s biggest trend. Then Resort 2012 came around, and Celine changed how everyone felt about flowers on their clothes with the wave of a single black-based floral leather motorcycle jacket (and the button-down and cigarette pants that matched it). Because everything that Celine designer Phoebe Philo touches turns to cool, we now have a bumper crop of beautiful florals to pick from, many of which appear on this season’s most covetable bags.

For my dollars, the best of the florals are black-based, just like Celine’s; they take some of the simple girlishness out of wearing something so feminine and provide a bit of a darker edge. (Not to mention that they help hide wear on a handbag.) We’ve assembled a list of the finest flower-adorned bags around, and you might notice that, on average, they’re a bit more affordable than most of the bags we write about. That’s because many of them are at least partially non-leather, which both makes them perfect for warm weather and gives your wallet a bit of a break. Check out our picks below.

I can’t believe it’s already the end of Milan Fashion Week! Paris is underway as we speak, but before we fully commit to a new city, we’d like to take a look at some of the best pieces and trends that came out of Italy for Fall 2013. Both fur and exotics are still going strong, and you might want to look for pieces in bright red and cyan to hit stores six months from now. It’s too early to start shopping, though, so let’s take a look at the best runway bags Milan Fall 2013 had to offer.

The Many Bags of Kerry Washington

The Many Bags of Kerry Washington

If you’ve been anywhere near your Twitter account on a recent Thursday evening, you might have noticed that basically everyone on Earth watches (and loves) Scandal. I’m hesitant to admit that I’ve never seen the show, but it’s the next thing up on my catch-up list after I get done re-watching The West Wing on Netflix, which is actually a fairly appropriate progression. In Scandal, Kerry Washington plays legendary Washington D.C. PR pro Olivia Pope, who’s charged with fixing all manner of political disaster before they ever become public.

Kerry also starred in Quentin Tarantino blockbuster Django Unchained, and between those two roles, she’s been making the red carpet rounds something fierce over the past year. Luckily for us, she’s not one of those stars who makes her handlers carry her bag while she poses for photos, not is she the type to carry the same plain, metallic clutch to every event. We’ve got a ton of Kerry’s best red carpet handbag moments, plus a few more casual looks, waiting for you below.

Gucci reimagines its signature bamboo for Fall 2013

In the accessories world, Gucci has some of the best-known and most unique signature details. Horsebits, stirrups, the famous Flora print, the green-and-red webbed stripe – there are a lot of non-logo ways that you can immediately tell you’re looking at a Gucci bag. Perhaps the most recognizably bit of Gucci regalia, though, is bamboo. Introduced in 1947, the famed bamboo handle is getting a thoroughly modern upgrade in matte black for Gucci Fall 2013..

A bit of the traditional brown (plus a bit of the bag’s color) still peeks through in this new, modern bamboo, but the feeling is a tad more youthful, with just a bit of edge. Gone are the coordinating bamboo closures with which we’ve become accustomed in the past five years; instead, these bags boast sleek pushlocks against a host of exotics both dark and colorful. Gucci’s had great success with snakeskin accessories in particular in the past couple seasons, and I’m glad to see the brand stick with it; you’d be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful python bag anywhere.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from covering the evenings bags that stars carried at the Golden Globes, Grammys and SAG Awards this season, it’s that relatively few celebs are willing to take a chance with an interesting clutch for a stroll down the red carpet. Perhaps their stylists just don’t think about it amidst all the dress drama, or maybe they’re afraid that anything that distracts from the dress is a unwanted opportunity to pull focus away from getting the star onto the Best Dressed List. Either way, the result leaves much to be desired.

We have some ideas (as we are wont to have) on how stars can do better in the future. Like, say, for this weekend’s 2013 Academy Awards. We’ve picked the 10 best, most interesting evening bags available on the Internet right now, and we’ll get back to you on Tuesday with news of whether or not any stars followed our (extremely sage) advice. In the meantime, scope out the clutches in the slideshow below.

Valentine’s Day is never as bad (or good, depending) as anyone expects it will be, so I’m hoping everyone survived with minimal relationship strife and binge-eating of ice cream. If you’re still looking for a way to self-medicate (or if you just want to wile away some time at work on a Friday), we’ve done that thing we always do: scoured the Internet for the best sale bags out there. We’ve got everything from Marc by Marc Jacobs to Alaia, right this way.

The Many Bags of Kate Moss

The Many Bags of Kate Moss

Today’s the first official day of New York Fashion Week, and while Megs and I are out and about doing the whole NYFW thing, we though it only appropriate that we give you an opportunity to spend some time looking through the considerable handbag hoard of a real, capital-F fashion icon, not just some celeb. The only choice, of course, was Kate Moss. Before the “model off duty” look was a thing, Kate was dressing in skinny pants, animal prints and lots of great handbags.

As you might expect, Kate’s collection skews largely neutral, and within that, largely black. In that way, she’s a girl after my own heart, and likely after many of yours. She’s designed several lines of bags for Longchamp, of course, but her whole personal collection was a joy to sift through, all the way from one of the first Balenciaga Motorcycle Bags ever made to the latest from Saint Laurent. Check out the full show below and wish us luck at Fashion Week!

The Many Bags of Bethenny Frankel

The Many Bags of Bethenny Frankel

I’ve always been a big fan of Bethenny Frankel, the sometimes-controversial former star of Real Housewives of New York who parlayed her reality TV fame into a booze-for-girls brand that she sold for a reported $120 million last year. She’s funny, direct and willing to cop to most of her flaws – that’s about all I ask from someone on a reality show, personally. When I got a look at her insane bag collection, it only made me like her more.

If you’ve ever asked yourself how you’d splurge if you suddenly became rich and wildly successful, you’re going to want to take a look at Bethenny’s bags, because she got to answer that question in real life. In early paparazzi photos of her, she’s carrying average stuff, most of which I didn’t recognize. Once her brand started to take off, though, Bethenny bought an Hermes or Chanel classic in seemingly every color, for every occasion. If you’re a traditionalist, you’ll probably faint over Frankel’s bag collection.

Gucci Spring 2013 bags now available via Neiman Marcus

Gucci Spring 2013 bags now available via Neiman Marcus

They’re here, they’re here, they’re finally here! Gucci Spring 2013 handbags, that is. I’ve been waiting for this collection to drop since it debuted on the runway last fall, and that day has finally come. Lucky for me, the bags are just as bright, fresh and modern as they felt way back in September.

Most of the bags fall under what Gucci has dubbed the Bright Bit collection, which includes ultra-streamlined clutches, shoulder bags and totes in, you guessed it, bright colors. They’re all topped off with the brand’s signature horse bit accent, which makes the designs a strong blend of both modernism and Gucci-flavored traditionalism. It’s a hard line to walk, but these bags accomplish the feat quite well. Spring also includes a colorful update to the Gucci Stirrup line, which is a welcome development. Take a look at our favorites from spring below or shop all the Gucci new arrivals at Neiman Marcus.

I fell in love with Gucci all over again this fall and winter, so much so that my current go-to bag is my Gucci Lady Stirrup Top Handle Bag. Finished in the perfect burgundy hue, this bag combines a structured ladylike design with touches of classic Gucci that are familiar and well-loved. At lunch recently, someone asked me what my favorite bag is at the moment; I must say it’s this Gucci bag. So let me get into the details for you all!

Gucci makes a great everyday shoulder bag

Gucci makes a great everyday shoulder bag

It’s true, I love Gucci. I always have. When I was in college, one of my first major purchases came down to Gucci and Fendi, and even though I went with the Fendi Spy bag at the time, Gucci still holds a special place in my heart. I’ve followed the brand closely over the years, and recently, its handbags have wowed me more than I can even explain. The bag that has my eye today is the beautiful Gucci Soho Shoulder Bag, a classic available in a variety of shades but I have my sights set on the light blue.

With bag prices continuing to skyrocket, finding a well-priced option has proved more and more difficult. I’m always looking for luxurious everyday bags, and that’s what Gucci provides with this particular piece. I’m actually pleasantly shocked at the price – $1,290 for a very spacious, functional design in leather. The long chain shoulder strap gives a chic touch along with its practicality, and the leather body speaks for itself. Against chilly winter days and spring blossoms, this bag will take you from season to season at a great price. Buy via Gucci for $1,290.

PurseForum Roundup – January 18

It’s PurseForum Roundup time! We’re sorry we missed last week, but just because we didnt round it up, doesn’t mean there hasn’t been a lot of action on the PurseForum these last two weeks. From Chanel bags to Gucci sandals to the most delicious-looking sushi we could find (seriously, get ready to have a serious craving), we’ve picked the very best of what the Forum has to offer this week. So, with no further ado, let’s jump in and see what’s been going on!

PurseForum Roundup January 18 Enamel Ring

When we need a sparkly pick-me-up, we head straight to the Jewelry Box, and this week, we found a wonderful surprise in the Jewelry Box in Action thread. Lovely member xactreality flashed her stunning Frey Wille enamel right hand ring, and truth be told, this unique piece stopped us dead in our tracks. If you love fine enamel jewelry, be sure to also visit the Ode to the Enamels thread in Hermès, too!

PurseForum Roundup January 18 Gucci Sandals

We like to call it the “New Shooze” thread, but it’s properly called Post Your Newest Shoe Purchases. This venerable Glass Slipper staple always resides near the top of the list, owing to fabulous purchase reveals like the one pictured here. Member theYoungandChic scored these fantastic Gucci platforms, and we all love when a PurseForum member finds their Holy Grail shoes! Do you have any New Shooze to share with a VERY appreciative audience? We certainly hope so!

PurseForum Roundup January 18 Linea Pelle Bag

What is your “comfort” bag? A smooshy bag that just makes you feel comfy and cozy just by looking at it? We all certainly have one, and PurseForum member eehlers captured the spirit of hers perfectly in the Linea Pelle Bag of the Day thread with this great armchair shot. Also, if smooshy woven bags are more your style (or if you like monkey bread) visit this yummy thread in Bottega Veneta. Delicious!

PurseForum Roundup January 18 Sushi

We often need inspiriation with our fashion choices, and some of us need inspiration in the Kitchen, too. Whether it’s to plan a meal, get cooking tips, find a restaurant review, or make a healthy snack, our Kitchen subforum is multicultural, multinational, and multi-licious! “What did you eat today?” is never more beautifully answered than in this timeless thread. This week, PurseForum member sweetpea83 quite literally had us grabbing our keys and heading straight to the sushi bar with this post. We hope you will stop by the Kitchen and let it work its magic on you – we promise it will.

PurseForum Roundup January 18 Chanel Mini Flap

We love blue, so when we spotted this cheerful shot in the Chanel Mini Flap thread, we ended up spending some quality time in this keystone subforum. The Chanel subforum always crackles with the excitement of a new purchase, but it’s also a valuable resource into the history and particulars of this venerable house. Be sure to check out the color library if you love color as much as we do! And whether you are new to the brand or a seasoned afficianado, you will surely expand your knowledge in the reference library. Be sure to take a shopping break, though!

If you’ve never considered participating in an auction, now might be the time to try. Even a traditional auction through a house like Heritage Auctions is often the source of amazing deals on rare, limited edition or hard-to-find bags, often because the majority of bag buyers either don’t know to look there or are intimidated by the mechanics of a non-eBay auction. Ultimately, that translates into a pretty good bargain on almost everything.

The deals only get better when you’re talking about one of Heritage’s weekly luxury auctions, wherein everything starts at $1, there’s no reserve and all the goods are guaranteed to be authentic. This week’s auction, which ends at 11 p.m. on January 22, includes such lust-worthy items as an orange Hermes Birkin, an Hermes Collier de Chien, and bags from Chanel and Louis Vuitton, among others. Wherever the bidding ends, that’s where the item sells. If you’re looking to add some Hermes accessories to your collection – belts, cuffs, that sort of thing – you might want to check in as well.

We’ve got a few of the best items below (and above, naturally), and if you’re intrigued, do yourself a favor and head on over to see what else you might be able to get for a steal.

The Best Bag Deals for the Weekend of December 21

The time for online gift shopping has more or less wound down, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to stop thinking about ways to treat yourself. After all, you deserve a little something for buying, wrapping, cooking and playing host to relatives that may or may not be the most insufferable people on the face of the planet. And if you don’t actually have to do any of that this year, well…count yourself lucky and reward yourself for some other noble feat you’ve accomplished. There’s always a justification for shopping.

It’s especially easy to justify a purchase when the object of your affection is on sale, so as we do every week, we’ve rounded up some of the best handbag markdowns on the Internet. Pick yourself up a lil’ present for after the holidays – even if you fill up on holiday treats, a new handbag will fit no matter what.

The Many Bags of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

The Many Bags of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

I want you to think back, all the way back to when Real Housewives first appeared. It was just the Orange County wives back then, and the show was intended to be a behind-the-scenes look at the privileged lives of a group of women who lived in the exclusive Coto de Caza gated community. Now the show is more about drama than wealth, but the cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills somehow manages to bring both in almost equal measure. (Depending on which cast member you’re talking about, the scale may tip one way or the other.)

Lisa Vanderpump, Kyle Richards, Camille Grammer, Kim Richards, Taylor Armstrong, Adrienne Maloof and Brandi Glanville are the richest group of Housewives that Bravo has in its stable (although it appears that Lisa in particular, and perhaps Camille’s divorce settlement, may be helping out the average), and they make it known every episode in the jaw-dropping handbags that they carry. Now that the group has returned to television (and we’ve returned to recapping their antics), we’ve taken the liberty of looking through the group’s paparazzi shots and distilling them down into the definitive guide to The Many Bags of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

In my dream world, I’d use the Gucci Goldmark Crocodile Bag for travel

In my dream world, I’d use the Gucci Goldmark Crocodile Bag for travel

Lately I’ve been feeling more and more like a Gucci girl. I have a new bag from the brand (review to come soon!), and it reinvigorated my love for the brand in so many ways. As much as the GG monogram bags are still popular, the classics are what draws me in. Lately, Gucci has been knocking it out of the park.

Recently I found myself lost in the Internet world and wandered upon a site called Rich Kids of Instagram, and it is just as vain and ridiculous as you would imagine. And you know what, I found myself lost looking at photos of all these kids and what their lives are like. Private jets, mansions, custom cars and shopping like it’s going out of style – that’s precisely what their Instagram photos are filled with. Of course, the whole thing is entirely showy and gaudy, but there were definitely some photos that had me tinge with jealousy and longing, mostly for a private jet ride to my beautiful second, third, and fourth homes.

When that day comes, I plan to go in style, and that means having the perfect travel bag that is both luxurious and spacious. Right when I laid my eyes on this Gucci Goldmark Crocodile Bag, I knew in my dream world I would love to have it. There’s a simplicity about this bag that speaks to me, with stunning antique gold hardware against the black crocodile skin. The dimensions are large enough for it to be a work bag or travel bag while not being overly cumbersome. I find beauty in this design and it continues to speak to me (oh, and the outfit on the model, very New York City chic).

When I knock myself out of my imaginary world and back to my world, I remember to tell you all that there are other versions of this bag at a much more affordable price, around $2100 via Gucci. But the version I am lusting after is $27,000 via Gucci.

Gucci ensures that even your jewelry travels in style

Gucci ensures that even your jewelry travels in style

Luxury, as with everything else, has its levels. Luxury perfume and cosmetics are the entry level, according to both price and deliberate positioning by designer brands. Handbags and shoes are the next step up; they’re much more expensive, but still accessible because they’re durable goods that don’t require the wearer to maintain an adolescently slender frame. Beyond that is ready-to-wear, and eventually, haute couture. In my mind, despite its status as an accessory, items like the Gucci Leather Jewelry Briefcase fit in somewhere between ready-to-wear and haute couture.

This item isn’t made to order like couture, but it requires other trappings of extravagant wealth in order to be a reasonable acquisition. First, the buyer must have a venerable stash of jewelry and watches that requires such containment; you best believe that my mishmash of vintage costume jewelry doesn’t sit around in something like this. (Actually, it sits around in the box from the Balenciaga iPad case that my dear employers gifted me with last Christmas. Cardboard, but chic cardboard.)

Second, the buyer has to intend to travel with that stash of jewels and watches. Plenty of options are available for those who want to store their bijou at home, but for a piece like this, the intent is efficient storage during movement and while away from home. If you don’t jetset around the world and attend fabulous events that require such finery in many corners of the globe, then in all likelihood, you’ll buy another handbag or two for the price.

Then, of course, there’s the price itself. At $5,900, it costs more than an average Gucci handbag, and the leather exterior comes with an optionL diamond check cover in tonal velvet. It’s an accessory, but it’s beyond that – instead, a piece like this is the luxury lifestyle, distilled into a single jewelry case. Buy through Mr. Porter for $5900.

The Many Bags of Sarah Jessica Parker

The Many Bags of Sarah Jessica Parker

Since we started putting together our The Many Bags of… series, we’ve had a few stars with stunning handbag collections and incredible fashion pedigrees on our list that we’ve been waiting for just the right time to profile. Well, today seemed as good a time as any to get that started, and who in Hollywood (or New York, where she lives) is more of an accessories icon than Sarah Jessica Parker?

To many people, she’ll always be Carrie from Sex in the City, but SJP has some fashion chops of her own, as we all know. What I admire about her the most is her obvious willingness to dress for herself and for whatever she’s doing on any given day instead of dressing up for photographers just because she knows she’s going to be seen. In fact, paparazzi speculate that her dressed-down weekday outfits are in an effort to discourage photogs from stalking her; if she looks bland every day, it makes it harder for them to sell the photos. Even on her morning walks to school with her kids, though, Sarah Jessica’s usually carrying a fabulous bag, even if it is with jeans and UGGs. Without further delay, let’s see exactly what’s in SJP’s handbag closet. (She must have an entire closet for bags, right?)

The Many Bags of Sarah Jessica Parker Sarah Jessica Parker Fendi Silver
When speaking of SJP, it seems to me that the only truly fair place to start is Fendi; after all, Sex and the City did help turn the Fendi Baguette into the world’s first true It Bag. In this photo, Parker carries a metallic silver Fendi Peekaboo Bag. Pick up your own Peekaboo via Neiman Marcus for $3720.

The Many Bags of Blake Lively

The Many Bags of Blake Lively

If you follow along with horrible TV as closely as we do (and believe me, we follow it closely), you might know that perennial guilty pleasure Gossip Girl started its final season on Monday. I still haven’t caught up on last season, but when the whole mess finally makes it to Netflix, you can guarantee that I am going to spend lots of rainy evenings and weekends stuffing my head full of the Upper East Side travails of Blair and Serena. They’re like long-lost friends who I’m itching to get a cocktail with, no matter if the show has fallen a bit from its gleefully melodramatic heights.

To celebrate (mourn?) the beginning of the end, we’ve assembled a comprehensive look at The Many Bags of Blake Lively. Blake’s been in the news lately, and not just because of the return of Gossip Girl; she wed Ryan Reynolds in South Carolina several weeks ago in a ceremony that surprised pretty much everyone in the entertainment world. So what does Blake carry, both on set and off? We’ll explore that, as always, after the jump.

The Many Bags of Blake Lively Blake Lively Carlos Falchi
First, let’s start with a classic Gossip Girl look from the good ol’ days. Very fashionable, slightly preppy and with a big ol’ Carlos Falchi Crocodile Tote. Shop Carlos Falchi via Saks.

The Many Bags of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

The Many Bags of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is one of the few celebrities in the world who I think is so beautiful that I rarely notice her bag first when I look at her. Those lips! Those cheekbones! When you combine that with the fact that her boyfriend (and my imaginary boyfriend) Jason Statham is often in photos with her, it’s enough to distract even someone like me from handbags. But, you know, only for a split second.

I was able to focus long enough to bring you the this compilation of the Burberry model’s accessory collection, though, from Celine to Chanel to…well, to Burberry, which Rosie carries quite frequently. For a spokesmodel, though, her collection is quite diverse, and it includes some of my personal favorites. Follow along as we break down Rosie’s taste after the jump.

First, let’s start with what seems to be Rosie’s favorite bag – her Celine Phantom Luggage Tote in dark green suede. Rosie carries this beauty everywhere and has been photographed with it seemingly dozens of times – that’s a pretty strong endorsement.

Fashion Week Handbags: Gucci Spring 2013

I’m about to use a word to describe the handbags from Gucci Spring 2013 that I genuinely have never associated with Gucci or its bags in the past: simple. For the candy-colored clutches and petite shoulder bags that Gucci sent down the runway in Milan on Friday, the brand’s iconic horsebit hardware was back and nearly everything else was gone. Shown in two versions, Gucci’s pared-down flap bags were a notable departure for a brand know for its large, sometimes aggressive handbags.

Gucci creative head Frida Giannini has always enjoyed turning our expectations of the brand on their heads, though, and that’s exactly what she did in a runway show full of monochrome and monotexture ensembles. The bags followed the lead of the clothes instead of making their own statement, and it’ll be interesting to see how this newfound restraint reverberates through the rest of Gucci’s accessory line come spring. Check out all the bags after the jump.
