PurseForum Roundup – October 17

PurseForum Roundup – October 17

Happy Friday, Roundup Readers! We hope you are all rested up from the National Handbag Day festivities. We certainly had a lovely time revisiting some of our favorite bags and collections last week and hope you did too.

This week, we dropped into Coach and checked in on the Snoopy Line conversation, which you’ll want to check out! We also looked in on two new bag styles in Bottega Veneta and stopped by Beauty Bar and Nail Care to see what gifts our sweet and generous members are sharing across the globe!

Rachel Zoe Picks Pumpkins with Her Kids and a Gucci Bag

Rachel Zoe Picks Pumpkins with Her Kids and a Gucci Bag

It’s that time of year again when LA celebrities grab their kids (or kids they’ve borrowed especially for the occasion), the paparazzi grab their cameras and everyone heads on down to Mr. Bones’ Pumpkin Patch. Here’s Rachel Zoe, pumpkin-picking with her sons Skyler and Kaius and her husband Rodger Berman. She’s carrying a dark brown Gucci Nouveau Fringe Suede Bag. Rachel’s version of this fringed Gucci is now sold out, but you can find a python version for $3,100 at Net-A-Porter.

If you look closely, you’ll notice that Rachel also has a Louis Vuitton Damier Neverfull Tote tucked away in her stroller. You can peruse the rest of Rachel Zoe’s handbag collection in “The Many Bags of Rachel Zoe.” Mr. Bones is a such a beloved celeb to-do that last year we recapped the event with a blog post fittingly titled “The Many Bags of the Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch.” It’s highly likely we’ll do another one this year, if celeb turnout is decent and pap handbag pics are plentiful.

Gucci Creates the Perfect Collection with Jackie Soft

Gucci Creates the Perfect Collection with Jackie Soft

Gucci has been a handbag highlight for me for what feels like seasons on end. From Bright Diamante to Fringe to Bamboo, each new collection has found a way to win me over. Now, Gucci has sealed my everlasting love with the Jackie Soft collection, a nod to the house classic Jackie bag.

The Gucci Jackie dates back to the 1960s, when it found a namesake in Jackie Onassis. Much like Ms. Onassis, the bag became an instant icon, and the Jackie Soft is a modern reinterpretation with supple-yet-durable leather in five different styles, all in a range of colors and skins.

Gucci Jackie Soft (4)

The collection includes sage green and nut brown crocodile; soft leather in shades as diverse as candy pink, aqua and mustard yellow; python in shades of bordeaux and aquamarine; and classic neutrals, like black and beige. And that’s only scratching the surface of the muted, rich tones you’ll find in the Jackie Soft collection.

Kate Moss stars in the campaign for Gucci Jackie Soft, and the juxtaposition of her and Jackie O seems fitting–a thoroughly modern evolution of a classic bag gets a thoroughly modern representative. The ads also highlight the new design’s versatility; the Jackie Soft is an ideal classic, but it’s contemporary enough to translate well on not-so-traditional women as well.

I look at so many bags that finding one that really grabs my attention is quite the feat, but the Jackie Soft did just that from the beginning. I love the elegant feel, but the soft leather gives a more approachable edge to the design. The leather is touchable, but the bag looks like it will last for years to come.

Gucci Jackie Soft (8)

Gucci Jackie Soft (9)

Gucci Jackie Soft Leather Flap Shoulder Bag, $2,350 via Gucci

My personal favorite is the Jackie Soft Leather Flap Shoulder Bag, and whether you opt for crocodile, python or soft leather, you can’t go wrong. The bag is large enough to carry everything you need for your daily life, but it’s also not too large to be carried at night. I simply adore this bag and its beyond-usable interior, which has five pouch pockets of varying sizes for easy organization.

Gucci Jackie Soft (5)

Gucci Jackie Soft Crocodile Clutch, $15,500 via Gucci

Gucci Jackie Soft (6)

Gucci Jackie Soft Python Clutch, $3,100 via Gucci

The Jackie Soft Clutch is much like the shoulder bag in its design, just without the shoulder strap. The larger shape makes an instant statement, and like the whole collection, the materials and colors offered are diverse.

Gucci Jackie Soft Hobo

Gucci Jackie Soft Hobo, $2,990 via Gucci

Gucci Jackie Soft Hobo, $2,990 via Gucci

Gucci Jackie Soft Hobo, $2,990 via Gucci

In a nod to the original Jackie Hobo, the Jackie Soft Hobo is undeniably chic. The bag hugs nicely to your body, with ample drop between the handle and opening of the bag. I imagine Jacqueline Onassis carrying the beige crocodile option, which is perfection in every way.

Gucci Jackie Soft (1)

Gucci Jackie Soft (2)

Gucci Jackie Soft Crocodile Top Handle – Closure Detail, $31,000 via Gucci

Gucci Jackie Soft (3)

Gucci Jackie Soft Crocodile Top Handle – Interior, $31,000 via Gucci

The Top Handle is ideal for someone who needs to carry more for their day-to-day life, and and both sizes of this shape come with an optional crossbody strap. I would love the smaller size for everyday use, while the larger size is what weekend trips call for.

Prices for the Jackie Soft Collection range from $895 for the convertible wallet to $31,000 for a crocodile top handle. The candy pink shoulder bag is an online exclusive (and personal favorite), and you can shop the entire selection via Gucci.com.

The 10 Most Important Bags in Modern Handbag History

The 10 Most Important Bags in Modern Handbag History

It’s become trendy for designer brands to emphasize their histories and heritages in an attempt to add value to their products and convince consumers that their prices are worth it, but when you look back at fashion history, there are a few modern handbags that stand out for the ways that their existences have shaped the accessories industry and how women (and men!) perceive, carry and shop for bags. As part of our continuing countdown to National Handbag Day, we’ve made a case for the best and brightest below.

The 30 Best Bags of the Spring 2015 Runways

The 30 Best Bags of the Spring 2015 Runways

Now that the Spring 2015 fashion show season has drawn to a close, it’s time to look back, evaluate and separate the notable pieces from the fluff. It seems like more brands stock their shows with handbags every season, and Spring 2015′s best bags include both handbag stalwarts and notable-but-lesser-known accessories brands.

There were few all-encompassing trends this season; instead, novelty found its way into a lot of collections, whether it was through fun prints, micro-mini bags or charms. Many brands also kept up with the seasons-long trend of showing ultra-expensive exotics, which serves both to wow regular customers and entice the affections of the super wealthy. Check out all of our picks below.

Anja Rubik Does Perfect Model-Off-Duty Style with a Little Gucci Bag

Anja Rubik Does Perfect Model-Off-Duty Style with a Little Gucci Bag

Polish supermodel Anja Rubik was recently spotted carrying a cute little Gucci Soho Disco Bag while spending some time with her family in Warsaw. If only we could all look this nice (and unharried) after a casual family lunch in the city. You can find Anja’s exact bag at Gucci for $895.

A $895 Gucci bag is a comparatively affordable handbag choice for a supermodel. If you’d like to get a better feel for the kind of pricey designer swag we’re more accustomed to seeing on the arms of the world’s most beautiful women, be sure to check out “50+Bags on the Arms of Our Favorite Supermodels.”

Social Eyes

Last week we met Cècile Togni (maybe you remember her from our project with Whistles?! ) to check out Safilo’s new Parisian sunglasses showroom.

In celebration, Cècile invited a few of her friends to pick out their favorite singlasses, we caught Candela in some funky Fendi speckled cat-eyes, while Lou and Pauline went for more classic styles from Gucci.

Her showroom was a perfect place to run into some cool girls!

30 Bags and the Celebs Who Carried Them at Milan Fashion Week Spring 2015

30 Bags and the Celebs Who Carried Them at Milan Fashion Week Spring 2015

This year, London Fashion Week got compressed down to nearly nothing and we found ourselves looking down the barrel of the Milan Fashion Week collections before we even knew what hit us. Ultimately, though, that’s okay–MFW brought out tons of fashion industry insiders, basically all of whom were carrying pretty bags at which to gawk.

Last season’s Milan shows felt at times like an orgiastic tribute to celebrities, but this season, designers scaled things back a bit. Instead of attempting to fill every from row with the Katy Perrys and Rita Oras of the world, the people that the paparazzi spotted outside of the shows are mostly famous because of their involvement in the industry. Check out the best bags we spotted below.

The Best Bag Deals for the Weekend of September 19

The Best Bag Deals for the Weekend of September 19

Over the past week, something has changed. I’m not sure exactly what happened, but the Internet’s handbag sale pages went from being a barren handbag wasteland to being…well, slightly less barren. Sale season is nowhere near to full swing, but some rather notable handbag options have been added to almost every major retailer’s sale page in the past seven days, and we’ve assembled the best of the best into our weekly roundup of bag deals below.

If you require even more sales, steals and markdowns, head on over to our PurseBlog Deals Page, which is updated daily!

Spring Trends: Suede

The Trend: Suede

How I would wear it: Designers have ruled it more than appropriate to sport suede in warmer temps. For me? I’m going for a suede jacket or skirt come spring.

The best looks: From left to right, Tibi, MM6, Gucci, Burberry and Derek Lam.

Summer in Review: PurseBlog’s Best Instagrams

Summer in Review: PurseBlog’s Best Instagrams

Today marks the beginning of PurseBlog Summer Break, which means that our team is taking a week out of the office to travel, rest and, in my case, move into a new apartment. While we’re away, we’ll have both new posts and some of your old favorites, updated and expanded with new photos, new bags and, in general, new things to gawk at. That’s what we’re here for, after all, even when we’re not technically here.

To get things started, we looked back at our Instagrams for the season and put together a few that showcase our favorite bags enjoying the summer weather alongside us. (Yes, our purses are sentient and have moods. Just another perk of the job.) Check ‘em out below, and follow us on Instagram to find out how our bags will feel about fall.

With the arrival of Fall just around the corner, it looks like most of you are slowly stashing away your bright bags and opting for something a little darker and more seasonally appropriate. From burgundy to black, there were plenty of beautiful bags to pick from this week, not to mention a whole lot of Céline! Take a look below to go inside some of the prettiest designer bags we found on Instagram, and as always, keep tagging #PBWIMB to show us what’s inside your bag.

Want It Wednesday: Mini Bags Aren’t Just for Summer

Mini bags are most often associated with warm weather; after all, who doesn’t want her hands free during the season’s outdoor activities? They’re just as useful during the fall, though, especially when coat weather comes around and regular shoulder bags compete with your outerwear for shoulder real estate. Now that basically every popular bag comes in a mini size, along with all the bags that were designed to be mini from the beginning, your choices are vast no matter the season. For this edition of Want It Wednesday, the team has enumerated its favorites below.

20 Burgundy Bags to Start Your Fall Wardrobe

20 Burgundy Bags to Start Your Fall Wardrobe

Burgundy may be the perfect fall color; it’s rich, versatile and basically a neutral, but it’s not quite as obvious a choice as an actual neutral. Black, grey, tan, navy–burgundy looks flawless with all of them, and depending on the undertones of the particular shade, it can read as anything from a particularly warm brown to just a shade off aubergine. All of that, of course, makes it a perfect choice for a new handbag.

Burgundy (or, as everyone suddenly decided to call it, oxblood) had a huge fall last year, and based on the deliveries currently rolling into stores, the industry’s appreciation for the color hasn’t abated. If you’re all stocked up on traditional neutrals and want something a little bit more interesting in your wardrobe that will still be appropriate for frequent use, we’ve got 20 options below, in a variety of shapes and price ranges.

Perfect Pairs: Gucci Soft Jackie Top Handle and Chocolate

Perfect Pairs: Gucci Soft Jackie Top Handle and Chocolate

Right when I saw the Gucci Soft Jackie hit the Gucci website, I fell head over heels in love. It’s not the simple kind of love, but rather the intensely deep kind. Gucci tops my list as my favorite brand of the moment, and it continues to deliver, collection after collection.

The Jackie is a brand classic, dating back to the 1960s, and was named after Jacqueline Onassis. The Jackie is an icon we’ve explored before, but the new interpretation’s beauty baffles me in the best way.

From the moment I saw the Soft Jackie collection, I knew I had to play with it. I loved the luscious leather of the Gucci Soft Jackie Top Handle Bag. The nut brown leather looked chocolatey, so while I examined the bag, I decided it would be perfect to pair it with a bar of chocolate. It seems that both chocolate and Gucci bags are my weakness.

Want It Wednesday: Simple Totes

Want It Wednesday: Simple Totes

We love all handbags great and small, but when it comes to functionality, it’s hard to beat a good, sturdy tote bag. They are both the literal and figurative catch-alls of the purse world; they hold your laptop, your gym clothes, your files from work, all of the stuff you need but don’t really want to carry. They also provide a great foundation for a designer’s line, striking that perfect balance between fashion and function. For this week’s Want It Wednesday, we’ve assembled a list of simple totes that the PurseBlog team adores.

OLD SCHOOL GLAM

Guccigold

Sandals, Gucci.

So, I’ve had a thing for these black suede and gold sandals for quite some time and when I spotted them on 50 % sale I couldn’t resist making a purchase. I wouldn’t say that they’re typically my style though, it was just something that reminded me a lot of the very fabulous and glamorous style of my grandmother. She is, and has always been, a big source of inspiration for me and she has a big basement full of shoes similar to the ones seen above. I’m going to have to think a bit about how to wear them but I can assure you it won’t take long since vacation is coming up in the middle of next week! Yippie kay-yay.

Want It Wednesday: 4th of July Must-Haves

This weekend, the PurseBlog team will be scattered around the city (and the globe) to celebrate America’s Independence Day. Since we’re all heading to varied locales and activities, we’ve assembled the things we all want for each of our jaunts, which range from a relaxing weekend with friends in the city to a globetrotting trek to Nicaragua.

Gucci Debuts Bright Diamante

Gucci Debuts Bright Diamante

Somehow, Gucci never seems to go wrong with its huge line of handbags. For pre-fall, the brand delved into its vast creative archives to bring back the house’s Diamante leather in an array of bright colors.

The Diamante pattern was first created in the 1930s and enjoyed popularity through the 1950s, but it was only recently that creative director Frida Giannini rediscovered the classic design in the archives and resurrected it. The diamond pattern is subtly beautiful, and it adds the perfect amount of dimensionality to the bag. As the bag moves, you can see the varying texture as it hits the light, which is a great touch.

Introducing the Gucci Jackie Soft Tote

Introducing the Gucci Jackie Soft Tote

At the PurseBlog offices, we’re all Gucci fans of varying degrees. Megs totally loves the brand’s bags, and Katherine and Bea are right behind her. While I think the brand makes gorgeous bags, they often don’t line up perfectly with my personal style; it’s a brand that I think looks great on other people. With the Gucci Jackie Soft Tote, which is brand new for Fall 2014, I might have found my Gucci match.

This bag first appeared on the brand’s fall runway, and I’ve been anticipating its arrival since then. Based on the iconic brand’s iconic Jackie hobo, the bag features the recognizable hardware against the background of a tightly edited east-west tote.

It features no other hardware or branding, which is why I like this bag so much: the materials, ranging from softly textured leather to stunning sage green crocodile, are allowed to be the Jackie Soft Tote’s main aesthetic draw. That decision gives the bag the sort of understated sophistication that’s gained a foothold in the trend-weary high-end fashion world of late, and the results are beautiful.

If you need a new work bag, all of the leather colors are beautiful and office-appropriate, and this bag is big enough for a laptop. If you’re looking for a splurge, though, any of the calf hair or exotic versions would be an excellent, fresh choice. Personally, I’m partial to the leopard. Check out all the options below, which are available for fall delivery.

Giorgia

Let’s start the first week of the summer (yesss!!!) by this city look on Giorgia. I love the subtlety of her choices, the not too high heels, the easy pants and the blouse that’s just a little revealing.

Oh, and the very Italian touch – the classic Gucci bag.

As always, she’s perfect.

Charlotte Casiraghi Leaves an Equestrian Event with a Gucci Bag on Her Arm

Charlotte Casiraghi Leaves an Equestrian Event with a Gucci Bag on Her Arm

Here’s Charlotte Casiraghi, Monaco royal and granddaughter of Grace Kelly, leaving an equestrian competition in Cannes with a natural leather Gucci Soho Satchel. Charlotte is an active competitor in equestrian jumping events, and she’s also Gucci’s “official equestrian ambassador, which means the brand dresses Charlotte for many of her events. Obviously, Gucci’s love of all things equestrian does not begin and end with its signature horsebit detailing. You can find a bag similar to Charlotte’s in black for $1,950 at Gucci.

If equestrian sports are a little outside of your wheelhouse, you might not be aware that Gucci actually has an entire equestrian collection, which includes everything from riding helmets and apparel to saddles and riding crops. And if you love the pageantry of equestrian events like jumping and polo (as a participant or strictly as a voyeur), I simply must insist that you check out our recent style profile of the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic.

PurseForum Roundup – June 6

PurseForum Roundup – June 6

It’s June! I know we have been ticking off the weeks since the dawn of the PurseForum Roundup, but it still seems unbelievable that it’s already June. This week, we dropped into Home and Garden and the Wardrobe and found some sure signs of summer. We also stumbled upon several Gucci reveals and visited Make-Up and Beauty to see what our members have been bringing home. We hope you will join us as we bring you all of this and more!

Flowers

Our Home and Garden subforum is always busy this time of year – our members are getting busy in their gardens and giving us all a peek at what they’re growing. We have lots of green thumbs on the PurseForum, and the Garden Photographs thread always has a lovely selection of beautiful shots they have generously shared with us. This week, Myrkur harvested some lavender, and Sweatpea83 showed off her basil, geraniums and coreopsis.

There are quite a few new additions to the Things You Love Around Your Home thread, and if you are house hunting for your imaginary life, try the Most Expensive Homes in the U.S. thread for some fun. Elsewhere in the Playground, the Up To The Minute subforum has been extremely busy this week, so do drop in and join in the conversations on a wide range of today’s topics. We also have a special section dedicated to just Good News – a great place to relax and enjoy some uplifting and light fare.

Coach Bag

In Coach this week, one lucky member got a pair of Smythes in Rose Petal and Milk. So far our Coach members are loving both of KMiller_41′s bags, but she’s still considering her purchase. What do you think? Moolio showed off a gorgeous pair of Shawna heels, and frivofrugalista picked up a stunning blue Georgie.

We are really loving the Coach leathers at the moment, and it seems our PurseForum members certainly share the sentiment. Sarah03 also posted a new bag, a delightful minty fresh duffle at a steal of a price. We found plenty of Non-Coach purchases in this special thread, too. our members have been very busy, so a hearty congratulations to all our happy Coachies who successfully shopped this week!

Chanel Pink Cosmetics

Make-up, Nail Care and The Beauty Bar “make up” our busy Make-Up and Beauty Forum. Nail Care has everything you need to know about prettying up your fingers and toes, including swatch threads for every brand imaginable.

In our Beauty Bar, the Recent Purchases thread showcases the latest goodies our members have scored at their favorite beauty haunts. This week, JA_UK shared her impressive Chanel haul, and Kailuagal let us have a peek at her Sephora bounty, which was equally impressive. There are swaps about to get underway, so be sure to check back into the Beauty Bar for the Swap Box and Random Act of Kindness reveal threads, coming soon.

Outfit Photo

We love to look in the Outfit of the Day threads (OOTD) in our designer forums, but particularly love peeking into the Wardrobe because anything goes in its OOTD thread. We loved this look for summer from our member EllaPretty and were also happy to stumble on chic willows looking dapper in advance of his very special celebration. Also in the Wardrobe, a great conversation on sourcing linen dresses for summer tops the charts, right along with our Zara thread.

Giant Ring

Whether it applies to you or not, our Women of a Certain Age thread is absolutely not to be missed, and June has been incredibly busy, starting with this great photo from divanata. Our fashionable WOACAs are a lively bunch who love to share stories and inspirational outfits and accessories, making this thread one of the best on the Forum.

Gucci Haul

Reveals were the order of the day in Gucci at press time, so we thought we would share some of them, starting with this nice selection of purchases from Stylegeek. Princessairie61 found lots of answers in the affirmative when she opened her thread with the question “Anyone Still Awake?” – we sure were and loved her quick reveal of sale sunnies and shoes.

The hottest topic in Gucci this week, of course, has been the sales, and the Sale Thread is bubbling over with excited members unwrapping their bargain finds, including PJMAC’s boots, shoes, bag and wallet.  Sariwoo got her very first Gucci this week, a classic tote that will undoubtedly get lots of use. We also wanted to congratulate More4Me, who selected a classic bamboo top for her first bag from Gucci.

Horse

Closing out this week, we wanted to share this lovely shot from our Animalicious subforum, from a thread intriguingly entitled “I’ve sold all my Louis.” Our members love purses, and so do we, but sometimes, as one of our members said in this very thread, “A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.” Our most sincere congratulations to our lovely member Serina and her new riding partner, and we wish you many happy hours in the saddle!

Thank you for joining us for June’s first Roundup. We hope you summer is off to a great start, and appreciate that you chose to spend some time with us this week. We want to wish you a happy week ahead and a fantastic weekend. Next week you will find us right her ready with another collection of the PurseForum’s most interesting conversations. Happy Friday!

Want It Wednesday: Memorial Day Weekend Essentials

Want It Wednesday: Memorial Day Weekend Essentials

I thought we had at least one more week before Memorial Day, but apparently not. Summer is here in all its glory this weekend, and for several members of our team, that means it’s time for a three-day sojourn to the beach. I’ll simply be headed to Prospect Park on Monday, but my needs will be largely similar to the beach-goers among us: comfy summer clothes, sun protection and something to carry it all in. Check out our pre-Memorial Day Want It Wednesday essentials below!

14 Belt Bags to Wear this Summer

14 Belt Bags to Wear this Summer

Whether you’re a Coachella die-hard or a casual concertgoer, one thing we can all agree on is that there’s nothing worse than having to fuss around with your bag when all you want to do is dance. While crossbody bags and backpacks leave your hands free for taking pictures and enjoying an ice cold beer, they can sometimes get in the way of your ridiculously good dance moves. Hence, I’ve turned to the belt bag.

The belt bag may have a bad rap, with its close similarity to the fanny pack, but these bags look nothing like those horrible nylon fannies you’ve seen on so many tourists. With contemporary designers and luxury brands designing their own versions of the belt bag, the thought of wearing a bag around your waist no longer seems so scary. It may be a little daunting at first, but take a look below at our favorites for the summer season.

The Bucket Bag is Spring 2014′s Biggest Accessories Trend

The Bucket Bag is Spring 2014′s Biggest Accessories Trend

For those of you who wanted one, it’s probably time to come to terms with the fact that you’re not going to get a Mansur Gavriel Bucket Bag for spring. (Add it to your wishlist at Net-a-Porter, though – a friend who did so fairly recently saw it show up in her shopping bag last week.) That’s a bummer, but the good news is that Mansur Gavriel was on the front end of a trend that has since become huge – bucket bags are spring’s biggest handbag shape trend, and the brands entering into the fray include everyone from Opening Ceremony to Hermes.

Traditionalists will be glad to see that Louis Vuitton has introduced lots of new versions of the original bucket bag, the Noe, including Epi leather in perfect summer shades. On the less expensive end of the spectrum, lots of contemporary brands have pounced on the casual, unstructured style in a way that will surely appeal to younger customers. For the best of the best, check out what’s going on below.

Olivia Wilde Goes All Black with a Gucci Fringe Bag

Olivia Wilde Goes All Black with a Gucci Fringe Bag

Here’s Olivia Wilde, sipping a milkshake in the West Village while doing crazy things for maternity fashion. Olivia has accessorized her chic, all-black ensemble with a black suede Gucci Nouveau Fringe Bag. This bag was actually inspired by a similar 1940′s design from Gucci’s archives. (I imagine the vintage version might’ve had just as much bamboo detailing, but not nearly as much fringe.) You can obtain Olivia’s exact bag for $2,500 at Gucci.

If you’re not prone to wearing all-black ensembles in mid-April, I feel obliged to point out that this bag is also available in a pleasing range of bold, eye-popping spring hues. The Gucci Nouveau Fringe Bag was an obvious choice for our round-up of the “16 Best Fringe Bags For Spring”. We also took an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at the exquisite craftsmanship behind this unique handbag in “Inside The Making of a Gucci Nouveau Fringe Bag.”

PurseBlog Goes to Coachella

PurseBlog Goes to Coachella

Last weekend, more than 100,000 people headed to Indio, California to attend the highly anticipated Coachella Arts and Music Festival, and 100,000 more will do so this weekend. With over 150 music acts on the bill, including Outkast, Arcade Fire, Pharell, Lorde, Ellie Goulding, Lana Del Rey, Haim, Muse and Calvin Harris, we found no shortage of famous faces to be seen in attendance. While Coachella is primarily known for it’s music, it’s certainly a fashion scene at well.

The Coachella look is perhaps best described as “glamorous bohemian,” with plenty of fringe bags, hipster hats, colorful prints, flower crowns and quirky sunglasses. During the day, there are a tons of parties to attend, thrown by brands like Lacoste, Guess and H&M. If you’re looking to spot celebrities, you’ll be sure to find plenty of them here. (Just make sure you’re on the list beforehand!) If you’re more of a music junkie like me, head to the festival early to explore the grounds and catch some of your favorite acts.

Take a look at some of the pictures from my Coachella adventures, including the obligatory In-n-Out stop, the bags I brought and the infamous Coachella Ferris Wheel (if you ever get a chance to ride, DO IT!).

Be sure to follow our Instagram to see where we’re taking our handbags next!

Bag of the Week: Gucci Swing Leather Tote

Bag of the Week: Gucci Swing Leather Tote

Bag: Gucci Swing Leather Tote

Price: $995 via Gucci

Why It’s the Bag of the Week: Gucci has quickly turned into one of my favorite brands over the past few seasons. The Swing Tote caught my attention for both the classic, clean design and functional, long double handles. Furthermore, this bag costs under $1,000, a rare feat in the premier designer handbag world.

You guys weighed in, we did the math and the field has been winnowed from 16 to just 8. Which designers will live on to the Final Four? That’s up for you to decide in Round 2 of PurseBlog March Madness. Just like you did early this week, choose which bag brand you prefer in each matchup and cast your votes – the winner of each will move one step closer to being our 2014 champion. Some of the matchups in the last round, like Louis Vuitton vs. Balenciaga and Gucci vs. Alexander Wang, were quite close, so every vote counts!

Outfit of the Week: All About a Gucci Bag

Outfit of the Week: All About a Gucci Bag

I never thought I’d be saying these words, but I’m really loving fringe bags right now. It’s not like me to want an aggressively fringed bag (actually, it’s really not like me), but some of them on the market right now have truly nailed the design. The first brand to look to when it comes to fringe is Gucci, their fringe bags are making major statements and I’m obsessing over them.

My outfit of the week was created with the Gucci Fringed Textured-Leather Tote as the star of the show. While skinny jeans are still incredibly hip, I enjoy seeing flare jeans make a bit of a resurgence. As always, I love pairing a nice crisp white blouse with my denim, and then I added a bit of color with the Alice + Olivia jacket. Finish it off with the right pair of pumps and great accessories, and you have exactly what I’d love to be wearing right now.

Inside the Making of a Gucci Nouveau Fringe Bag

Inside the Making of a Gucci Nouveau Fringe Bag

Among the things that handbag lovers tell ourselves in order to make exorbitant accessories prices seem reasonable, “The crafstmanship is exquisite!” is one of the most popular. It’s rare that consumers get much of a peek inside that process, though. Late last year, we took you behind the scenes into the making of Gucci’s iconic bamboo trim, and now Gucci has thrown open its workshop doors once again to reveal a few of its secrets, this time with the Gucci Nouveau Fringe Bag.

These photos, originally posted to Gucci’s Facebook page, provide a glimpse inside the construction of the brand’s marquee Spring 2014 bag, including the 46 individual pieces of precision-cut fringe that make up each bag’s lower trim. The finished product can be yours for $2,500 via Gucci – check out the gallery below to see what goes into that price.

Welcome to PurseBlog March Madness!

Welcome to PurseBlog March Madness!

You might have heard a whisper here and there about some sort of basketball tournament that’s starting this week. Most members of the PurseBlog team went to football schools, so while this may not be our time of year in a sporting sense, we believe in substituting handbags for literally anything in which we are not naturally interested. With that in mind, we’re proud to announce PurseBlog March Madness!

We’ve chosen 16 of the biggest handbag brands in the world at a variety of price levels, and we’d like you to help us determine the best bag brand of 2014. You’ll have two days (work days – even handbag critics need a weekend) to vote on each round, and once we’ve tabulated the votes in each bracket matchup, we’ll move the winners on to the next round to face a new opponent and a new round of voting by you, our readers. We’ll do this all the way until a winner is crowned!

PurseBlog Goes to SXSW

PurseBlog Goes to SXSW

After a long and amazing week at South by Southwest, it feels good to finally be back in New York (minus the cold weather, of course). Last Thursday, Amanda and I jetted off Austin to spend a week at SXSW Interactive, attending thought-provoking panels and keynotes, eating tons of delicious food, exploring the city with great bags and making new friends.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with SXSW, it’s an annual music, film and interactive conference that takes place over a three week time period in Austin, Texas. The Interactive portion is primarily focused on digital creativity and emerging technologies. There are presentations and panels from some of the biggest people in the digital world, trade shows, networking events and an endless amount of parties to attend.

From our flight to our food, we documented just about every step of the trip to give you a look at the PurseBlog team’s SXSW experience. Take a look some of the highlights from our trip and the places we visited.

Perfect Pairs: Gucci Bamboo and Tibi Mules

Perfect Pairs: Gucci Bamboo and Tibi Mules

After seeing the full Gucci Spring 2014 Handbags collection, I instantly fell in love. However, like the our original review mentions, I also worried a bit about practicality. New York weather is not always in a fashion girl’s favor; one gust of wind and I’d be hitting an innocent bystander with the fringe of my Gucci Bamboo Fringe Shopper, not to mention that the fringe is probably a bit long for my rather petite stature. Despite these difficulties, I still love this bag, and that’s what inspired me to pair it with the Tibi Embellished Leather Mules.

Mules are definitely among the most dominant shoe trends for Spring 2014, and these Tibi mules are my favorite that I’ve seen so far. The sandal’s upper is substantial enough to secure the top of your foot to the show better than many mules, which makes it one of the more practical shoes of its kind.

The wood detailing is a pleasantly unexpected touch that works well to balance the heavily embellished heel, which is what instantly caught my attention about the shoe. With that detailing and the bag’s luxe suede fringe, this pairing makes the ultimate bohemian duo.

Come read about lust-worthy shoe trends, the latest news on luxury footwear and everything else you could want to know about footwear everyday on TalkShoes!
