The Many Bags of Khloe Kardashian

The Many Bags of Khloe Kardashian

There are few more controversial figures in American pop culture than the Kardashians, and they’re controversial in exactly the ways that make for excellent bag-spotting. Extravagant, conspicuous, exhibitionistic – the Kardashians have a lot of stuff, and they’d like to show it to you. That makes Khloe Kardashian a perfect candidate for our weekly handbag examination. Sister Kim had the biggest collection we’ve ever documented, but Khloe does a pretty good job of accumulating luxury handbags in her own right, including a colorful array of Birkins.

Michelle Williams is Back For Another Round at Louis Vuitton

Michelle Williams is Back For Another Round at Louis Vuitton

Despite changes at Louis Vuitton in every area from creative director to accessories strategy, it looks like one thing is staying constant, at least for now: Michelle Williams will be the face of Louis Vuitton’s accessories campaign for another season.

These images aren’t of the Fall 2014 collection; instead, Williams is being retained as the personality behind the brand’s advertising efforts for its everyday bags. Like Michelle’s previous campaign, these photos, which were shot by Peter Lindbergh, include the Capucines bag, but now the Lockit and Alma have been added to the mix. The classic shapes and nearly logo-free finishes of these bags emphasize what Vuitton has been saying for months: in an effort to attract more “desirable” customers, leather is in and logo is out. Check out the entire campaign below.

11 Great Ways to Start Your Designer Handbag Collection

11 Great Ways to Start Your Designer Handbag Collection

We get a lot of reader email asking for advice and recommendations, but the one questions we’ve received most consistently over the years are queries about what a young woman should choose for her first designer bag. Those questions are very near and dear to our hearts – Megs and I can both recount the acquisition of our first bags in vivid detail – and today, we’re here to provide answers both general and specific.

On the whole, most successful first-bag purchases are some combination of classic and recognizable. Discretion may be the better part of valor, but for almost anyone, the rush of that first fancy purchase is knowing that everyone else knows you have something fancy, at least in part. Don’t worry about being inventive or finding the Next Big Thing; just get something you love and that you’ll be proud to carry until you find your next big bag crush. Below, some of our favorites.

Louis Vuitton Rolls Out New Colorful Prints with Damier Couleurs

Louis Vuitton Rolls Out New Colorful Prints with Damier Couleurs

By now, we’re all aware that Louis Vuitton is in the middle of a massive re-brand, with a new creative director in Nicolas Ghesquiere and a renewed emphasis on discretion and craftsmanship instead of the ubiquity and showmanship that characterized Marc Jacobs’ tenure at the French powerhouse. (It’s important to note, though, that Jacobs’ tactics turned record profits for Vuitton for much of his decade-plus stay.) In order to play up its signatures without using its monogram, the brand has debuted Louis Vuitton Damier Couleurs for Spring 2014.

The first run of four bags, which includes two clutches, a shoulder bag and a tote, are streamlined, simple and come in up to seven colors ranging from grey to chartreuse. They’re recognizably Vuitton because of the check print, but they’re different enough not to fit into the brand’s brown ubiquity. This LV’s first Damier expansion for women since the introduction of the wildly popular Damier Azur nearly ten years ago, which has clearly demonstrated for years that there’s significant market interest in the print beyond just its original colorway. Check out all the bags, colors and prices below.

The Many Bags of Accessory-Loving Male Celebrities

The Many Bags of Accessory-Loving Male Celebrities

Like the majority of fashion sites, we tend to stick to the ladies when we look at what celebrities are wearing and carrying. Women have far more options, after all, and we make up the vast majority of the population that’s interested in the details of high-end handbags. We like to think of ourselves as completists, though, which means that it’s time for us to plug a significant hole in our coverage: famous dudes who love bags.

As menswear has grown, so have the ranks of men who are unabashed about their preferences for a fancy leather good or two. Gay, straight, femme, butch – there’s a manbag (or women’s bag – many of these dudes don’t discriminate) for every famous man who deigns to carry his own things, as long as he’s willing to pony up the cash. From Johnny Weir’s Balenciagas and Birkins to Kanye West’s customized backpacks, check out the full array below.

Welcome to PurseBlog March Madness!

Welcome to PurseBlog March Madness!

You might have heard a whisper here and there about some sort of basketball tournament that’s starting this week. Most members of the PurseBlog team went to football schools, so while this may not be our time of year in a sporting sense, we believe in substituting handbags for literally anything in which we are not naturally interested. With that in mind, we’re proud to announce PurseBlog March Madness!

We’ve chosen 16 of the biggest handbag brands in the world at a variety of price levels, and we’d like you to help us determine the best bag brand of 2014. You’ll have two days (work days – even handbag critics need a weekend) to vote on each round, and once we’ve tabulated the votes in each bracket matchup, we’ll move the winners on to the next round to face a new opponent and a new round of voting by you, our readers. We’ll do this all the way until a winner is crowned!

VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE DESIGNERS IN THE FIRST ROUND NOW!

PurseForum Roundup – March 14

PurseForum Roundup – March 14

Well, that was fast! While we were busy looking at purses, shoes and bags, an entire week flew by! Welcome to the Mid-March PurseForum Roundup, in which we shall celebrate the first awakenings of spring with a visit to Louis Vuitton, Coach and more. We’re so happy you are joining us!

Louis Vuitton Collection

In Louis Vuitton, we stopped first at Ban Island, since we’re on a bit of a ban ourselves. We thought it would be fun to share our disappointment of not having a new bag in our future, but boy, were we in the wrong place! Myfirstchanel fell off the ban wagon hard with her purchases this month – including a spectacular clutch in hot pink – and she really needs our help getting back on track. Hopeach also had some seriousl purchases to confess to the group. Turns out popular Ban Island is actually a bit of a reveal thread, so tread cautiously, friends.

Louis Vuitton members are keeping close watch on TooManyWantMore’s poll on which color to choose for her new bag. Seems she has already decided but we are awaiting the big reveal. Did you agree with her choice? Stay tuned. There are plenty of reveals and more decisions to be made in LV this week, but we want to leave you with this wee treasure from nashpoo, because, really, its the little things that make us smile every time!

Christian Louboutin Platform Pumps

You know we love instant reveals, so we wasted no time clicking on armanigirl’s instant reveal in Christian Louboutin this week. This busy subforum also celebrated along with LVmyLife, who, agains all odds, scored her stunning dream wedding shoes! We welcomed back our friend samina, whose collection thread never fails to stop traffic. After nearly a year, samina added more beautiful shoes to her patent leather family, and if you haven’t visited this thread, it’s definitely worth starting out right from page one. Shoe lovers will also not want to miss the Show Off Your New Shoes thread, where this month we found some truly eye-popping shoes, like these from Louboulove, just one of the many showstopping reveals in this fast-moving thread.

Christian Louboutin Python Platforms
Bottega Veneta Close Up

Isn’t it wonderful to see a daffodil? We dropped into Bottega Veneta to see of there were any colorful reveals on deck, and found that indiaink had a bag repair story to share – along with the sunny yellow harbinger of spring we all know and love. Drowsy1 showed off a gem of a coin purse that is nothing short of adorable, and lucky saracaitlin shared the newest addition to her collection which, happily for us, includes some shoes, too! BV lovers will really appreciate the new purchase that absolutean revealed this week –this smooshy sea of luxurious woven nappa leather is what keeps us up at night, dreaming of this amazing brand. Still on the fence about BV? This thread may help you: Reasons to Buy a Bottega Veneta Bag. See you in BV!

Mulberry Lock Closeup

Happy St. Patrick’s day to all who celebrate. We found this adorable little fellow in Juicy Couture, where the most popular threads continue to revolve around the wonderfully detailed and whimsical charms this brand offers. He’s hanging off tatertots’ beautiful Mulberry and making a strong case for for wearing green this coming week! If you would like a charming breath of spring, you will love these beautiful daisy charms, courtesy of katierose. We are skipping The Kitchen this week, but if you are hungry, these tasty charms from GoldenLeopardLady are exactly what you need. Our members style these little jewels in dozens of ways, and we have a special thread dedicated to just that.

Vintage Coach Bag

In Coach, while searching for signs of spring, we got lucky and found some irises. We also found this absolutely lovely vintage bag from JOODLZ, one of several great finds in this thread. Alexa5 also shared some old and new finds in her Reveal thread. Brave Coachie3 revealed a new purchase, and even confessed to a little DIY tweaking that turned out great! Phoxxy picked up a luxurious moss green borough bag this week, and luvcoach sailed into spring with her new beauties: ruby and sea mist anyone? LvoesBags picked up something special in grey,  and Scorpio1101 took a walk on the edgy side with her new studded Bleeker.

Coach Borough Bags and Bag Charms

We close out this Roundup and this visit to Coach with a hint of summer to come: This Borough barstripe highrise is like a breath of fresh air and perfect for spring and summer. Dl787 added this beauty to her collection this week, and shared it along with its sweet little companion.

Thank you for coming along this week! For every thread we share here, there are hundreds more on the PurseForum, and we hope you enjoyed this week’s selections. Please visit here again next week for more! In the meantime, have a great weekend and week ahead.

Mon Petit Ami

Oh Louis Vuitton

How you’ve grown since the enviable “Speedy” bag (which still continues to grace the streets with its not so humble appearance swaying on elbows from NY to Tokyo)!

But this new bag, the Louis Vuitton Monogram Petite-Malle, that debuted on the fall runway is essentially the coolest and also the most impractical luggage that doubles as a purse ever.

It’s on the top of my most wanted list. Was that Nicolas’ intention? To get my attention by making a covetable bag that is likely to join the classic ranks of the Speedy?

I like it, and am already planning to buy it in 10 years when its vintage.

PS: The photos above are by Juergen Teller for Louis Vuitton.

Louis Vuitton Debuts Nicolas Ghesquiere’s First Bags for the Brand

Louis Vuitton Debuts Nicolas Ghesquiere’s First Bags for the Brand

Louis Vuitton is the biggest luxury handbag brand in the world, and there’s no job that counts more in the accessories industry than that of Louis Vuitton’s creative director. For most of my life, that was Marc Jacobs, comfortably ensconced atop the French powerhouse that he reinvigorated with his signature blend of luxury and pop-cultural wit. After the Spring 2014 show, though, Jacobs passed the reigns to Nicolas Ghesquiere, formerly of Balenciaga, and he debuted Louis Vuitton Fall 2014 in Paris on Wednesday.

Perhaps the most striking thing about the bags, and the collection as a whole, is that they’re very clearly not Marc Jacobs. The man and the brand have been so closely tied for so long that it feels genuinely foreign to look at LV through another designer’s eyes. Ghesquiere is more than capable, though; the show’s Mini Trunk bags are my favorite runway piece from Vuitton in recent memory, and the collection as a whole was crisply retro-modern. Check out the full selection of handbags below.

60+ Bags and the Celebrities Who Carried Them at Paris Fashion Week Fall 2014

Paris Fashion Week is an event like none other. We love New York, London and Milan, don’t get us wrong, but the combination of clothes and celebrities that happens in Paris will always be our favorite. This season, we found even more stars and fashion insiders carrying super-covetable bags than we did back in September, and we’ve assembled them all for your viewing pleasure.

David and Victoria Beckham Leave Paris with Louis Vuitton Luggage

David and Victoria Beckham Leave Paris with Louis Vuitton Luggage

David and Victoria Beckham were recently spotted heading into a Paris train station with a fitting assortment of high-end carry-alls in tow (including one of Victoria’s own designs, natch). David’s carrying a Louis Vuitton Monogram Macassar Keepall Bag, and Victoria has one of her own Victoria Beckham Liberty Totes on her arm. You can purchase David’s Keepall for $1,880 at Louis Vuitton. Victoria’s black leather VB tote is available for $1,350 at Net-A-Porter.

On the one hand, is any celeb couple aging better than David and Victoria? Probably not. But on the other hand, while I don’t expect non-stop PDA displays from celeb couples who’ve been married for over a decade, these photos are so flat, you can hardly tell these two people know each other, let alone have a gaggle of British babies at home. I’ll give D & V the benefit of the doubt here and wager that Victoria’s Casadei heels are actually to blame.

Many Bag Monday: Louis Vuitton x BMW i8 Limited Edition Carbon Fiber Luggage

Many Bag Monday: Louis Vuitton x BMW i8 Limited Edition Carbon Fiber Luggage

Combining cars and fine leather goods isn’t a new idea; I remember seeing commercials for limited edition Lexus sedans upholstered in Coach leather (and with a matching set of Coach luggage) when I was a kid, and Hermes has kitted out concept cars by everyone from Hyundai to Bugatti. The latest automaker-luxury goods duo to give the idea a whirl is BMW and Louis Vuitton, and they’ve just launched the Louis Vuitton x BMW i8 Limited Edition Carbon Fiber Luggage at select LV boutiques worldwide.

Instead of having Louis Vuitton upholster its new i8 sports cars (which are $136,000 plug-in carbon fiber hybrids) like some car companies have done in the past, BMW took a slightly different track: it had Vuitton design a set of carbon fiber luggage specifically tailored to the car’s cargo areas. In addition to that meaning that these familiar Vuitton shapes have been modified for the collection, it means that this particular Damier is an entirely new textile for the brand, instead of the coated canvas Damier that we all know and love. According to Vuitton, the use of carbon fiber makes the luggage, like the car, ultra light but very durable.

The combination is a smart one; buyers in the market a six-figure sports car who choose to spend their money on something that makes as big of a statement as a first-of-its-kind plug-in BMW are both of the consumer class that can afford custom designer luggage to match a car and aware enough of how people perceive luxury goods to be interested in buying it. Not only that, but the press surrounding such a collaboration allows both companies to get in front of the others’ audiences, which include a lot of desirable potential customers beyond just those who can afford each brand’s top-end goods.

The luggage will be available April 1, and, naturally, the prices aren’t being disclosed at this time. If you want it, whether or not you have the correct car to nestle it in, it’ll be available upon request at Louis Vuitton boutiques in Munich, Milan, London, Paris, Moscow, Dubai, New York and Los Angeles. Check out more photos of the collaboration below.

A little over a week ago, I handed my passport to the Russian consulate to be able to get my visa to fly to Moscow. Leaving my passport behind meant that I couldn’t leave Holland, which also meant I couldn’t go to Milan, but it also means that I FINALLY get to see Moscow, a childhood dream I’ve always had.
I am flying to Russia with Mango today, to attend their show as a special guest tomorrow and for some photo shoots and magazine interviews. I really cant wait!!!

PurseForum Roundup – February 21

PurseForum Roundup – February 21

Another Friday has arrived, and of course that means another PurseForum Roundup. We found a different kind of bling this week in the Jewelry Box, and also dropped into Kate Spade and Coach. We have some lovely bags to share from Louis Vuitton, too. Come on in and enjoy the week’s conversations and reveals with us!

Jade Bangle Bracelet

We have visited the Jade Thread in the Jewelry Box before, and it remains one of the most active threads in that popular subforum – so much so that it needed a Part Two! We have learned a great deal about jade, to be sure, and gotten to see some stunning pieces, all of which have added to our appreciation of this wonderful stone. This week, some bracelets arrived at their new homes, and berniechocolate was especially happy with her new purchase.  *NYC Princess* also revealed a new bangle, as different as night and day from berniechocolate’s. Jade is incredible! We also have a brand new jade and jadeite reference thread, so drop in and learn along with us! Elsewhere in the Jewelry Box, there’s also an interesting conversation about wearing and insuring diamonds that has plenty of food for thought.

Christian Louboutin Tobbogan Pumps

Aren’t these shoes gorgeous? We look for signs of spring everywhere these days, and when we found these beauties in our Christian Louboutin subforum, we needed a moment to take them in. We love the new-to-you purchases thread because the variety is endless, and these neptune Toboggan sandals from DeMiau are absolutely summer-licious! Indi3r4 also got us in the summer frame of mind with her new shimmery gold Nodo sandals, which are just the ticket for a festive spring gathering. We always like to remind you that there our designer subforums also customarily include lots of reference materials to help you as you consider your purchases, and our Christian Louboutin subforum has dozens.

Coach Watch

Last week when we visited Coach, we stayed in the Valentine’s Day thread, so today we decided to venture into other threads to catch up. This week, swags showed off her Stewardess bag, a classic style in sturdy leather that of course recalls vintage Coach beautifully. Luvcoach picked up a mini Preston in sea mist, a pale shade that packs quite a punch for spring. Double reveals always get our attention, and we found a lot of buzz around Apilila’s new watch and bag. You will love the photos in this reveal, Gatormom included quite an interesting cast of characters while showing off her smooshy new addition!

Louis Vuitton SC Bag Brown

Louis Vuitton lovers keep that forum busy all day, every day. We know we can count on the new purchases of the month thread for plenty of delicious new bags, and this week this quetsche stunner from Grace1982 caught our eyes. Its always wonderful to celebrate the accomplishments of a fellow PurseForum member, and this week, we got to congratulate boyoverboard on double Masters Degrees AND a new bag! Stop in and join the party, champagne is on us!

Louis Vuitton Monogra Empreinte Speedy Bag

Do you remember Ban Island? Where members wait out their bag-buying bans until brighter days arrive? Well, this week we visited another island in the PurseForum  archipelagio, Content Island, where bags are plentiful and everyone is happy. This week, klatte sent a postcard in the form of a new bag purchase from Content Island, and it is a beauty. There are plenty of conversations to join in on page one of this busy subforum, including decisions being madebags being revealed and a new fun thread on bags being decorated with scarves, fobs, and more.

Kate Spade Saturday Bag

We found a thread in Kate Spade that made us smile – bobbyjean must have been reading our minds when she asked, Is It Spring Yet? Peek into her thread to see the answer (we think the answer is yes!). Debbiesdaughter shared a beautiful bag in another delightful bold spring hue. We have a brand new “what’s in your bag” conversation in Kate Spade also, and we hope to see lots of goodies in this fun new thread, which is already off to a great start thanks to eehlers. If you haven’t discovered Kate Spade jewelry, be sure to stop in this thread, where we found a terrific selection of whimsical pieces and future classics from this brand. Our favorite is the pretty bow ring, what is yours?

Well, Roundup readers, that closes out this week’s edition of our trip around the PurseForum. We hope you will jump in and join in one of these conversations or find another that suits your fancy. Enjoy your week ahead, stay safe and warm, and we will see you right back here in a week! Happy Weekend!

New York City is always brimming with openings, new stores and fashion innovation, and in December, Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo’s famed Dover Street Market opened its doors in the Murray Hill neighborhood of Manhattan. Dover Street Market has filled its space with high-end, avant guarde fashion and design shops, including a pop-up store from Louis Vuitton on the ground floor.

We immediately zeroed in on this bag when we went to check out DSM’s new space, and it’s the center piece of the Vuitton shop-in-shop. The Louis Vuitton Neo Noe NN14 Bag Spotlight Bag features leather and satin jacquard with the LV Sprouse graffiti logo embroidered in a sparkling paillettes. There were only 20 pieces made of this bag, and each one is individually numbered.

The shop is creative in its design, with nods to the heritage of Louis Vuitton’s past. The Louis Vuitton collections are set underneath a modern interpretation of a crinoline, which may seem like a non sequitur but is actually part of the LV heritage; the brand’s trunks were once used to house aristocratic ladies’ crinolines.

Check Out the NN 14, Marc Jacobs’ Last Handbag for Louis Vuitton

We all know that Marc Jacobs has made his grand exit from Louis Vuitton, and in just a couple of weeks’ time, we’ll see Nicolas Ghesquiere’s much-anticipated debut for the legendary French house. In the meantime, though, let’s take a moment to savor Jacobs’ last contribution to the leather goods business that you revolutionized: the Louis Vuitton NN 14 Bag, which we first spotted on Jacobs’ swan-song runway in October.

The NN 14 will look familiar to Vuitton enthusiasts because it’s based on the brand’s iconic Noe bag, but it takes a few liberties with the structure in order to make the base a more minimal canvas for embellishments ranging from kangaroo leather (which is apparently a thing), to nail-head studs, to feathers. Those bags, which are limited edition and individually numbered, will cost you as much as 30 grand, while more pared-down leather and monogram canvas versions will run you in the familiar low-to-mid four-figures price range. Check out the NN 14 below and get ready to find out when Ghesquiere has in store for Vuitton soon.

Love It or Leave It: The Valentino Neon Crystal VaVaVoom Bag

Love It or Leave It: The Valentino Neon Crystal VaVaVoom Bag

We’ve spoken a bit about Valentino’s aggressive love for neons, but the Valentino VaVaVoom Neon Crystal Shoulder Bag may be the clearest indication yet that someone in the brand’s accessories department may have eaten too many magic mushrooms before conceptualizing the Spring 2014 accessories collection. At $3,095 via Net-a-Porter, this bag has a pretty steep price tag for something that skews so youthful. Tell us whether you’d love it or leave it in the comments below.

PurseForum Roundup – January 31

PurseForum Roundup – January 31

It’s Fabulous Friday, everyone! Many of us have had weather challenges this week, and we hope you all wrapped things up safely and can enjoy a weekend at home, perhaps visiting the PurseForum! To help you find your way, we have selected some gems from this week’s conversations to get you started with the PurseForum Roundup. Thanks for joining us!

Bottega Veneta Cervo Hobo

We thought a sunny reveal of a gorgeous bag would warm up any of our readers still fighting off a winter chill. This week in Bottega Veneta, grietje showed off her new cervo hobo in navy blue. Bottega Veneta’s colors are rich and saturated, and this bag is pure perfection resting on the lounger!

Ah_tracy found a lovely lavender for her first Bottega Veneta, and this luscious bag will be a favorite, we are sure. As many of you know, we recently announced the collaboration between the PurseForum and Bottega Veneta on a series of special order Knot clutches for our members. The thread dedicated to this wonderful project is an interesting peek into the process that ultimately made this a reality, and, more recently gives us a close look at the customer service behind this amazing brand.

Bottega Veneta Veneta Bag
Alexander Wang Rockie Bag Hardware

We love bold hardware as much as we love bold color, and HeaviestMatter’s new Alexander Wang Rockie takes care of us on both counts. We stopped in Alexander Wang to have a look at her double reveal, and found her vine Rockie has a companion, a trifold in sleek black stingray that is well worth a look. Roundup readers also know we love small leather goods, so this was really a nice find: pradapiggy’s new Fumo clutch. Fans of iridescence will also love this Rocco that octoberrush received at Christmastime, and this from J. FiskIf Alexander Wang is a new brand for you, drop in our subforum, you may find a new bag AND some new friends!

Teacup

The Career and Workplace subforum has been very busy this week. We have some really interesting conversations underway, including approaching retirement, changing jobs, trouble with colleagues, and of course the always popular nameless workplace rants thread. Elsewhere in the Playground, the Money Talks subforum is bubbling over with threads about how to make, save and efficiently spend our hard-earned cash. We also enjoy checking into a golden oldie – the What Don’t You Spend Money On thread. If you haven’t tried a No Shopping Day (NSD) Challenge, we have one about start this weekend. Check into January’s thread to learn the ropes! We would like to thank Haute Mama and the Tea Time! Thread in Home and Garden for the very special teacup pictured here!

Coach Red Shoulder Bag

Coach is always full of reveals, and there were plenty this week. Coach fans (“Coachies”) love a bargain, and a hot find at the outlet is always cause for celebration. This week, Uthra11 shared her outlet score with a very appreciative audience, and we agree that this scarlet bag is just fabulous! We also found a very sharp pebbled Borough that has found a home with Belle79, and an early Valentines Day present surprised neonfiller, who showed off her new rose Phoebe.

Coach Laser Cut Tote

We also took a shine to the eyelet satchel in putty that we found in karman’s outlet reveal – this pretty bag’s design looks to be very nicely executed in a perfect neutral. Coach’s recent all-leather additions have really struck a chord with PurseForum members, and we can certainly see why!

Louis Vuitton Monogram Empreinte Hobo

Has this ever happened to you: You purchase a bag, and you can’t bring yourself to carry it? Well, it has happened to smile4me6 – more than once – and her thread has advice and support that makes for a nice read. Drop into our Louis Vuitton subforum to check it out and join in! Speaking of new bags, we suspect ranniew will be carrying her new Alma BB, because it is stunning. Also in LV, it was very nice to read a positive customer service report from boyoverboard, whose cles repair story has a very happy ending. We also loved a thread asking the question we all can answer: What is the first thing you do when you bring home a new bag? Drop in and see if you share your new bag habit with any of our members; we certainly found our bag soulmate (shhh, we’re not saying another word). We closed out our visit to LV this week with a peek into Fancy_Pants’ reveal thread, which we highly recommend if you are a fan of this brand!

We hope this edition of the PurseForum Roundup sends you off to our Forum for some fun and relaxation. We appreciate you spending time with us every week, and look forward to bringing you more from our Forum next Friday. In the meantime, stay warm and dry, and have a wonderful week ahead. Happy Weekend!

Kendall & Kylie Fly with Givenchy and Louis Vuitton

Kendall & Kylie Fly with Givenchy and Louis Vuitton

Here are the wee Jenner sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner, trying to keep it low key (but failing miserably), shortly after touching down at JFK in NYC. Kendall is heading up the front, carrying a sexy black Givenchy Lucrezia Bag, and both sisters are pulling Louis Vuitton Pegase Suitcases. You can currently purchase Kendall’s sleek Givenchy duffel for $2,325 at Barneys. Pegase suitcases can be bought for $2,780 at Louis Vuitton.

The Kardashian-Jenner clan represents a staggering amount of business for Louis Vuitton, a fact that’s been extensively documented here on PurseBlog. For example: the Kardashian-Jenners are solely responsible for this luggage cart overflowing with LV, which took two airport employees to wrangle. The Kardashians and Jenners aren’t the only celebs that swear by Louis Vuitton, of course – you can check out our recently updated and expanded “Celebrities and Their Louis Vuitton Luggage” retrospective.

The Many Bags of Kelly Osbourne

The Many Bags of Kelly Osbourne

Like mother, like daughter, especially when it comes to Sharon Osbourne, Kelly Osbourne and their respective handbag collections. We profiled the elder Osbourne’s love for black Chanel bags a few months ago, and now that awards season is upon us, Kelly is gracing all of our televisions even more regularly than she usually does for red carpet coverage. That seemed like enough reason to delve into her handbag collection, and perhaps unsurprisingly, Kelly seems to have on speed dial the same hardworking Chanel sales associate as her mom. Check out her bags, Chanel and beyond, below.

Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2014 Men’s Runway Bags and Accessories

Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2014 Men’s Runway Bags and Accessories

We’re rarely jealous of the boys, but we get a little bit miffed every season when they get to see their upcoming collections before we do. New York Fashion Week (let alone Paris) isn’t for nearly another month, but last week, Louis Vuitton Men’s Fall 2014 graced the runway in Paris. It did so, naturally, with some very interesting bags, and we have some gorgeous shots of the new collection straight from Louis Vuitton.

These bags are in keeping with Vuitton’s strategy of moving away from its iconic logo and into more traditionally luxurious territory. Not only is there one exceptionally gorgeous crocodile Keepall (expect to see lots of exotics from Vuitton going forward), but the canvas bags get a new, subtle makeover with the introduction of Damier Cobalt, a navy-and-black take on Vuitton’s iconic check. In another fit of innovation, the first run of Damier Cobalt can be purchased now through Louis Vuitton’s website. Check out all the images of the sophisticated, luxurious collection below.

PurseForum Roundup – January 17

PurseForum Roundup – January 17

Welcome to the middle of January, PurseForum Roundup readers! A nasty flu kept us offline last week, but we’re gong to make up for lost time this week. Of course we visited the Kitchen, because it’s food season, and some incredible bags popped up this week; we can’t wait to share them with you!

Louis Vuitton Neverfull Monogram Tote

In Handbags and Purses, a new thread on Purses Under $500 is a hot topic. Members from all over the PurseForum are chiming in on their favorite bags in this price range – why not join them? Handbags and Purses is also where you can find all of the “this bag or that” threads, and members considering a purchase are always happy for input. Roundup readers may remember our thread on shopping from our own bag and wallet collections, and this popular thread continues to stay at the top of the charts. This week, JennyErin brought out her classic monogram Neverfull, and Tejas Mama showed off her Rebecca Minkoff MAM with pretty purple zipper detail. This eclectic subforum has lots to take in, and we hope you will drop in soon!

Ribs and French Fries

We learned a new acronym this week in The Kitchen. And you can guess where – our I Ate This Thread, where we found plenty of NSFHP (Not Safe For Hungry People) photos, including this simple but mouthwatering rib and potato selection from princesspig. We also found some tasty sweets from CrackBerryCream, and in the spirit of making up for our lack of a Roundup last week, here they are!

Cakes and Desserts

If you are lacking in dining inspiration, drop into the What Are You Cooking Tonight thread. We are glad we did, because jroger1′s suggestion of potato soup will be a great addition to tonight’s menu!

Bottega Veneta Ostrich Knot Clutch

In Bottega Veneta, it was time to check in on the PurseForum 2013 Special Order Knot Thread. You may recall that BV collaborated with our members to create these special bags, and the have arrived! Our wonderful moderator jburgh coordinated this project and started the party off with a sneak peek at her Corgi-colored Knot. All the Knots are just amazing, and we hope you will visit the thread to see them all, including this luscious plum stretch knot that Mousse now calls her own! Be sure to have a look at DD101′s magnificent blue cervo hobo, too!

Balenciaga Black City Bag

In Balenciaga, we found more colorful January reveals this week. Two Atlantique City bags popped up this month – mere girl and MAGJES both wowed us with their new purchases. A brand new black City bag really stole our heart, however, and we fell hard for LM1921′s latest addition. If you love the new hardware treatments, you will love this beautiful new City, too – ThisVNChick’s fabulous rusty red toned Hamilton leather stunner. Swt_decadent has a lovely new bag, too, in powder pink, as does 3jems. There are lots of conversations going on in this popular subforum, so stop by and add your voice – who knows, you may help a member decide on a very hot new bag!

Celine Dustbag

Our visit to Céline led us into lively conversations about the upcoming season’s runway and bag fashions. The PurseForum is brimming with knowledgeable and enthusiastic Céline aficionados awaiting the new colors and styles about to hit the shelves. We also found a reveal of LovesLouis’ new tricolor Luggage that looks to be a great way to ring in the new year. Our regular readers know we love a rich saturated blue bag about as much as anything, so you can imagine our excitement to find this splendid reveal from loveithateit. We also have a discussion underway on sagging Luggage bags, and this interesting thread has lots of members scratching their heads and offering up suggestions and support (no pun intended).

Celine Trio Clutch

We close out our visit to Céline with a real treat. We always celebrate when a member finds their Holy Grail – or, in this case Ultimate Holy Grail. We would like to congratulate our generous Céline contributor cotonblanc on finding the elusive strapless Trio Clutch Pouch. This little bag has been on his radar for ages, and we are thrilled that cotonblanc found it and are grateful to see this gem on our pages!

Thank you for stopping by this week’s Roundup. We try to hit the highlights, but dozens more threads and subforums full of conversations and reveals are waiting for you at the PurseForum. We will be bringing more of them to you next Friday, so in the meantime, have a great weekend and terrific week ahead from all of us at the PurseBlog!

The Many Bags of Olivia Palermo, Part Two

The Many Bags of Olivia Palermo, Part Two

It’s rare that we do a Many Bags feature on a celebrity that I’ve met before, mostly because I do not hobnob with celebrities on the regular (or ever). Olivia Palermo works with an events firm that used to be housed on the same floor as the PurseBlog offices, though, and I am here to tell you that she (and her handbag collection, which we first documented in December 2012) is absolutely lovely. Not only did she not mind that Bea and I accosted her to ask about her handbag when she was in the building one day, but she dished with us about it like a totally normal person. A totally normal person with flawless skin, but still. Below you’ll find all the pretty things that Olivia’s been carrying since the last time we checked in with her.

I’M WEARING >> Jeans: ACNE   |  Sweater |  Shoes: Opening Ceremony  |  Bag: Vintage Louis Vuitton  |  Sunglasses: ACNE  |  Coat: & Other Stories <<

Has it ever happened to you that you stare at your coset for ages but cant seem find anything to wear and get fixated on wearing the same thing over and over again? Well, that happens to me a little too often. There’s no problem with developing crushes with certain things in our closet right? Thats what I keep telling myself  when I refuse to wear anything outside my favorite pieces, but every now and then I force myself to change…
I used to say I wasn’t a “green” person, meaning I dont really wear green -probably because it reminds me to my elementary school uniform-, but some of my friends told me I was crazy and that green looks good on me, so I am giving green a try.

Even Orlando Bloom Likes Traveling with a Louis Vuitton Neverfull

Even Orlando Bloom Likes Traveling with a Louis Vuitton Neverfull

Newly single dad Orlando Bloom and his son Flynn were recently spotted arriving in Los Angeles together with an eye-popping carry-on (and diaper bag, perhaps): the Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama Neverfull Tote. This limited edition bag was part of a larger collaboration between the brand and Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, who is famous for her work with polka dots and psychedelic themes. This unique collab bag is no longer available, but regular Neverfulls can be had by the bucketload for $1,030 at Louis Vuitton.

The Neverfull is nominally a women’s bag, of course – in fact, we JUST saw Molly Sims at LAX with her own customized Louis Vuitton Neverfull. However, the simple structure and renowned durability of Vuitton’s coated canvas do make it ideal for a variety of purposes, including high-end daddy diaper bag. It’s still unusual though to see a celeb dude traipse through the airport with a Louis Vuitton piece that isn’t a duffel, backpack or briefcase, though. We like your style, Orlando. If you enjoy the occasional LV-celeb lovefest, check out our freshly updated “Celebrities and Their Louis Vuitton Luggage” post.

Louis Vuitton Debuts Absolutely Gorgeous Crocodile and Alligator Bags

Louis Vuitton Debuts Absolutely Gorgeous Crocodile and Alligator Bags

We’ve known for a while that exotic handbags would figure prominently in Louis Vuitton’s bid to capture more top-tier accessories customers, and now we’re getting an idea of just how prominent they’ll be. Vuitton has added five new alligator and crocodile bags to its website, including the $31,000 Louis Vuitton Deesse MM Crocodile Tote, the most expensive of the group. The prices, of course, are not surprising (especially compared to Hermes), but the fact that several of the bags are utterly perfect might be.

I don’t use superlatives like that often, but the Desse, which was originally produced in Monogram Vernis, and the Rossmore PM shoulder bag are both seriously stunning odes to luxurious minimalism. Not only do they fit perfectly into the industry’s current aesthetic trends, but they resist the ostentatious branding that has makes many people shy away from even some of LV’s most beautiful pieces. The shoulder bags get a bit of understated hardware engraving, but the totes and the NN 14 bag, first seen on the brand’s Spring 2014 runway, lack any branding that we can see from the company’s stock photos. That sort of restraint, mixed with these best-of-the-best materials, is exactly what Louis Vuitton needs in order to charm the world’s most sought-after luxury consumers.

It’s also interesting that Vuitton has chosen to display (although not sell) these bags on its website. In the past, Vuitton’s most exclusive pieces were kept off of the site’s visual inventory, their existence known only to those who watch the brand closely. Changing public perception means making these kinds of bags visible, right alongside Monogram Canvas. We know which ones we prefer, but our wallets have other ideas. Check out all the colors and shapes, along with price information, below.

Blazer: Vintage Ralph Lauren  |  Leather Pants: JBrand  |  Denim Shirt: ZARA  |  Boots: Velvet Dr. Martens  |  Bag: Louis Vuitton  | Watch

I am a HUGE fan of my leather pants, in fact, I could safely say they are one of my musts in my closet. The issue is, I have worn them so much that the area around the knee is starting to stretch and I am not happy about that AT ALL.
I know you have to take leather to a special cleaners, but can they also do something about the stretch? I am in massive need of advice!

This Vintage Ralph Lauren blazer is not only a new favorite, but also an amazing present from my baby sister who’s birthday was yesterday :D

The Many Bags of Hilary Duff, Part Two

The Many Bags of Hilary Duff, Part Two

Without a doubt, one of the things I was most surprised by in 2013 was how much you guys loved The Many Bags of Hilary Duff – it was one of our most popular posts of the year! I was a little bit too old for Lizzie MacGuire, so I never developed much of a love for the Duffster, but I’m clearly in the minority. Now Hilary spends most of her time in Los Angeles doing pilates and taking adorable (seriously, adorable) baby Luca to Mommy and Me classes (or that’s what paparazzi pictures would lead you to believe at least), and she’s become the very definition of a stylish young mom. She does almost all of that with an awesome handbag in tow, and because Hilary’s taken a bit of a break from the spotlight, you can bet that it’s usually because it’s something she loves, not something she was given in order to garner publicity for a brand.

An odd exception to that rule seems to be a brand called Donnatienne. I’m not sure whether Hilary is friends with the owner, paid to carry them or something similar, but she’s carried the small, LA-based brand quite frequently in the past year, in addition to her favorites like Chanel, Goyard and Balenciaga. Take a look at Hilary’s most recent additions to her collection below.

Molly Sims Returns from Vacation with Customized Louis Vuitton

Molly Sims Returns from Vacation with Customized Louis Vuitton

Model/actress Molly Sims (who still makes headlines whenever she shows up anywhere in a bikini) was recently spotted returning to LA after a family vacation in Miami with a Louis Vuitton Mon Monogram Neverfull Tote in tow. As you can see, Molly’s Neverfull is customized with stripes and her initials. You can obtain your own customized Mon Monogram Neverfull for $1,500 at Louis Vuitton.

If you’d like to recreate the look of Molly’s bag, her stripe colors are “Rouge” and “Bordeaux”, which I think look especially rich against LV’s legendary logo pattern. Eternal fans of the LV brand will definitely want to check out our ever-expanding slideshow of stars and their Louis Vuitton handbags and luggage, which we recently updated for your viewing pleasure during the holiday break.

The Many (Many) Bags of Kim Kardashian

The Many (Many) Bags of Kim Kardashian

We’ve been waiting a long time to do this one, and finally, The Many Bags of Kim Kardashian has arrived. The controversial reality star’s bag collection is easily the biggest one we’ve ever dug through, and you might be a little bit surprised by what we found: a lot of fairly conservative choices among the seventy-plus bags we found, many of them used repeatedly over the span of years.

“Kim Kardashian” has practically become a synonym for the excessive vacuousness of fame, but when you get down to it, Kim seems to both really enjoy her handbag collection and choose its contents wisely and with considerable care. She also seems to buy a lot of her bags herself, instead of receiving endless freebies and carrying whatever brands will send her. Hermes very famously does not give freebies or discounts to celebs, and Kim has most certainly spent plenty of her wealth on the acquisition of little (and big) orange boxes. Time and again, I found bags she’s used in the past couple of months popping up in paparazzi pictures from 2009 and 2010, which is a much more judicious use of her handbag backlog than many of us can claim. I’ve never been a Kardashian hater (or a Kardashian lover; I am mostly ambivalent), but after spending a few hours putting these photos together, I wouldn’t mind having a cocktail with Kim. Or looking through her closet, at the very least.

PurseBlog Asks: What’s Next?

PurseBlog Asks: What’s Next?

When Megs and I sat down a couple of weeks ago to discuss what we’d be covering for the end of the year, we knew we wanted to do a post about the most important bags of 2013. (And we did do that!) What became obvious as soon as we began assembling the list of bags, though, was that we’re in a bit of an It Bag power vacuum at the moment.

Fendi 2Jours Tote

The Celine Luggage Tote, although still a very popular bag, isn’t the hysteria-generator that it was a couple of seasons ago. The Givenchy Antigona Bag, although it was poised to take over the world, suffered a from a lack of interesting new versions to push it over the edge. The Fendi 2Jours is as close to an It Bag as the industry has right now, and although it’s beautiful and popular, it hasn’t (and won’t) turn reasonable, educated women into crazed shoppers willing to purchase a non-refundable bag six months in advance. (I was one of those women for the Luggage Tote. I know that level of desperation.)

Saint Laurent Classic Duffel Bag

When the bag first debuted, The Cut predicted that Saint Laurent’s Classic Duffel would be the Next Big Thing, and we disagreed. Turns out, we were right. Saint Laurent’s taking an interesting approach to its accessory business right now, but so far, the bags just aren’t quite there. The brand has a good opportunity to generate an It Bag, though; despite lackluster show reviews, Saint Laurent is a favorite of people who actually buy and wear designer clothes, and all those street style photos of everyone’s favorite editors and dubiously employed Fashion People have the power to sell more than a few bags to industry-watchers. Those industry-watcher then spread the gospel to their less tuned-in friends, and that’s how a craze is born. It all hinges on whether or not Hedi Slimane can get it right, though.

Mansur Gavriel Bucket Bag

At the contemporary level, the Mansur Gavriel Bucket Bag is the closest thing that segment of the market has had to an It Bag in years. The brand new company, with its simple designs and small-batch production, sells out its orders basically as soon as they hit the shelves. Wait lists start months in advance, especially for the much sought-after black Bucket Bag with a painted red interior, and even some well-placed industry insiders have had a rough time of getting their hands on one. It’s difficult for a contemporary bag to become an industry-wide It Bag, though, because part of what makes something an It Bag is a prohibitive price tag and the exclusivity it brings. Mansur Gavriel has scarcity on its side and will likely be able to sell as many bags as it can produce for the foreseeable future, but far-reaching industry dominance isn’t in the immediate cards.

Price works both ways on the issue of It Bags, though. Louis Vuitton would, by all indications, love to be included in this conversation for its push toward more refined leather goods, but the brand’s all-leather bags are too expensive to pick up the wide swath of luxury consumers needed for a full-on craze. Around $2,000 is the It Bag sweet spot for It Bags, and for that, all you’ll get at Vuitton is the monogram canvas that the brand is currently trying to push to the back of the shelves.

It seems likely that the next super-popular It Bag has not been introduced to the public yet, so now we want to know what you think. Where will the Next Big Thing is going to come from?

The Biggest Bags of 2013

The Biggest Bags of 2013

Anyone who’s an active pop culture consumer in 2013 knows that the things that are popular are not necessarily the same as the things that are the best. The two categories are related and often similar, but they’re not the same, and they’re both interesting for different reasons. We’ll be exploring the year’s best bags more thoroughly in January, but right now, we want to talk about The Biggest Bags of 2013.

Some of these designs (which are listed in no particular order) are new for this year and some have been around for a while, but they were all instrumental in shaping the way that consumers viewed accessories in the past calendar year. They’re trend-setters, they’re wait-list-makers, they’re the bags that have driven thousands of women crazy until they got their hands on them. Here’s to another year of bag lust.

PurseBlog’s Most Popular Posts of 2013

On one hand, I can barely believe that we’re down to the last days of 2013. On the other hand, the screwy fashion calendar means that I’ve been writing “2014″ for nearly six months, and I’m really looking forward to that not being usually incorrect. To celebrate the year that’s passed, we’d like to take a look back at the PurseBlog posts you liked the best in 2013. (You guys really love celebrities, Celine and Chanel.)

Don’t Leave Home Without It: Celebrities and Their Louis Vuitton Luggage

Don’t Leave Home Without It: Celebrities and Their Louis Vuitton Luggage

[Editor's Note: Over the next two weeks, while we celebrate Christmas and New Year's with our families and friends, we'll be adding some of our most popular posts of the past few years to our daily coverage, updated with new photos and information. Because today is one of the busiest travel days of the year, we'll start off with this new-and-improved look at how celebrities travel with their Louis Vuitton Luggage.]

In life, there are a few great equalizers: the DMV, the checkout line at Duane Reade, the Ticketmaster website the morning that Lady Gaga Beyonce tickets go on sale. For celebrities, the great equalizer seems to be the airport; no matter how rich and famous they are, unless they fly on only private plans and out of private airports (and almost none of them do), legendary movie stars and reality famewhores alike need to go through security, submit their bags to X-ray machines and submit themselves to the paparazzi who endlessly trawl LAX and JFK, waiting for them to make the walk from their gate to their waiting car service. No one escapes certain rules of modern air travel.

Because of that, we have a great deal of photographic evidence explaining exactly how stars travel, and it looks as though there’s a second great equalizer at the airport besides the TSA: Louis Vuitton luggage. Stars overwhelmingly favor monogram canvas Keepalls and Pegase rolling suitcases as their go-to designer carry-ons, but other pieces and materials get a little bit of love as well. More than anything, though, it’s impressive how much Vuitton’s travel gear seems to cross all kinds of lines – gender, race, age, career type, fame level – to saturate the celebrity market. Check out the LV pieces preferred by everyone from Jane Fonda to Kim Kardashian after the jump.

PurseBlog Roundup – December 20

PurseBlog Roundup – December 20

Happy Friday! For those who celebrate Christmas, it is (unbelievably) just a few short days away! We hope you have enjoyed our many holiday shopping posts on PurseBlog this week. Over in the PurseForum, our members are shopping away and sharing reveals at fast clip. We took some time out from our own shopping to pay a visit to the Jewelry Box, took in some secondhand bargains, and enjoyed some beautiful Christmas trees.

Violin

We paid a visit to the Secondhand Bargains thread to see how our savviest shoppers are doing this holiday season. Authenticplease did quite well this week and picked up a lovely violin for her daughter! This thread is one of our favorites – as Roundup Readers know – because where else can you find amazing bargains like this piece from Zac Posen, a vintage Fiestaware sugarbowl with a happy surprise, gorgeous Chloe boots and so much more! Be sure to check out the Nordstrom Rack and TJMaxx and Marshall’s threads for more great bargains, too.

Dog Bone Necklace

In the Jewelry Box, we are looking forward to seeing more contributions in the Symbolic Jewelry thread, whether the evil eye, Celtic cross, or these charming bangles from Trinidad that slowlikehoney shared with us. We also found a lovely and touching thread from darkangel07760, who found a perfect way to honor two very special friends. Oh, and be sure to visit the Insane Wish List thread for some seriously amazing bling. December has been a busy month on the love front, so we took a moment to see the new engagement rings in the Engagement Rings Thread, which was a truly delightful stop on our romp through the PurseForum. Jewelry lovers will find plenty to see in the Jewelry Box, from reveals to informative reference threads!

Proenza Schouler PS1

Lots of reveals made the first page of Proenza Schouler this week, including this spectacular PS1 in Peacock from CourtneyMc22. Vincent ko purchased his very first Proenza Schouler bag this week, and this pony hair classic looks to be a perfect fit! We found plenty of stylish gentlemen sporting their PS bags in the Boys Thread, so if you are a looking for the perfect man bag for yourself or for a man in your life, drop in here. We also found an absolutely fabulous triple reveal from k5ml3k, who jumped into the brand in fine style with three colorful PS1s. By the way, if you haven’t discovered the newest PS1, be sure to stop by this thread dedicated to this new, fun little bag.

Louis Vuitton Anthea Hobo

We certainly found lots to see this week in Louis Vuitton, one of our busiest subforums. MDNA celebrated her birthday with this luscious bag, and cyndyinphylly’s cheerful birthday key case arrived just in time for her special day, too! Have you seen the new Spirit Nano bracelet? FacundaRhose sure has, and shared hers with us here. We love this accessory! This shimmering Rossmore Noir wallet from MrSchmidtsWife is the perfect holiday accessory, as is MommieLovesLV’s new bag.

There are plenty of reveals in the December purchases thread, which is brimming with bags and accessories. Right at press time, we found a stunning addition to klatt’s collection. Be sure to make Louis Vuitton your fashion destination this weekend!

Christmas Tree

We ended our Roundup with another visit to the PurseForum Christmas Tree thread. We were especially enchanted with jinsun’s homemade tree. We love this thread – a peek into the living rooms of our members is always fun, particularly during the special occasions of life. In The Kitchen, we are learning about some of the Christmas dinners our members are planning, and hope to see more menus in the coming days, and we may add one of our own, namely this Cranberry Christmas Cake recipe, too!

We wish all of our members a joyous holiday season ahead, and a very Merry Christmas to all who will be opening presents under their trees next week.
