Shop Rare, Gorgeous Bags from Hermès, Chanel and More in Christie’s Latest Luxury Accessories Auction

There are few things I enjoy more than poring over the lots in a new auction. When you’re already well-acquainted with what’s available in stores, a well-curated group of rare bags and accessories, culled from the world’s best-stocked closets, is the best way to get the thrill of the new. Thankfully, that’s exactly what I found in the Christie’s Online Luxury Handbags and Accessories Auction, which just launched.

The auction includes some pieces that are extremely coveted by collectors, including a Birkin from Hermès’ incredibly popular, long-sold-out, limited edition So Black collection and a Chanel Flap Bag made in the image of ice cubes. The auction also includes both leather and exotic options from the fashion world’s finest brands, including plenty of Hermès Birkins and Kellys and diverse options from Céline, Louis Vuitton, Chanel and more.

The online-only auction runs from now through October 1, and all of the handbags and accessories are available for your viewing (and shopping) pleasure via Christie’s. Check out some of our favorite pieces from the auction below.

Instagram Handbag Celebrity: @bibi2cuori

Instagram has been flooded with both amazing bags from fashion week and new fall purchases, but we couldn’t help but notice one Instagram user in particular, @bibi2cuori.

Maybe it was the pictures from her recent travels that caught our eyes, or maybe it was her extensive collection of colorful Hermès and Chanel bags that caused us to find ourselves endlessly scrolling through her feed. While we know very little about who Bibi actually is, she has no problem showing her identity in her photos.

After scrolling through every single photo (literally, every single one), we’re thinking she might be Italian, based on the fact that Italians often have a way of looking effortlessly glamorous. (Okay, some of her captions may have hinted at it as well.) Take a look below at some of our favorite bags from Bibi’s collection or head straight to her Instagram to see the full feed.

60 Bags and the Stars Who Carried Them at New York Fashion Week Spring 2015

60 Bags and the Stars Who Carried Them at New York Fashion Week Spring 2015

New York Fashion Week has come and gone, but we’re not done with it just yet. Below, we’ve assembled dozens of photos of the week’s most notable bags on the most notable arms, all for your viewing pleasure. There’s inspiration to spare.

CELEBRATING THE LOUIS VUITTON MONOGRAM

LV

In celebration of the 160th anniversary of Louis Vuitton, the fashion house has collaborated with six icons (Christian Louboutin, Cindy Sherman, Frank Gehry, Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Newson and Rei Kawakubo) to reinterpret the iconic Monogram Canvas. The items will be sold in a limited edition, seen above is the shopping bag created by Christian Louboutin.

Louis Vuitton Unveils Monogram Collaboration Pieces from Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Louboutin and More

Louis Vuitton Unveils Monogram Collaboration Pieces from Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Louboutin and More

The Louis Vuitton Icon and Iconoclasts Collection turned a lot of heads when it was announced, mostly because of the perennially bold-faced names from the worlds of fashion and design that had signed on to participate. Louis Vuitton tasked fashion designers Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Louboutin, Rei Kawakubo, as well as architect Frank Gehry, photographer Cindy Sherman and industrial designer Mark Newson with creating artful fashion pieces using the brand’s signature monogram print, and now we know what each of them did with the challenge.

It was rumored from the beginning that Lagerfeld, perhaps the project’s most surprising participant, would make a punching bag, and not only that, but it’ll come in three sizes, hang with handbag-like straps on its included stand and also function as a regular handbag. For more serious training, a full-size punching bag and storage trunk, both covered in monogram canvas, are also available for an undisclosed price. To finish out the theme, a set of boxing gloves and their weekender-like case are also part of Lagerfeld’s capsule collection.

Louboutin and Sherman went in particularly colorful directions with their contributions, while Kawakubo was as weird as you’d expect her to be and Gehry was duly architectural. Newson’s fleece-paneled backpacks were easily the most wearable of bags in the collection, a sensibility that should serve him well at his new employer: Apple.

Below, check out the full collection, with pricing information where available. More information about each piece is available at Louis Vuitton’s website.

Looking to Consign? Christie’s Opens Its Doors to North American Clients

If you’re an American handbag aficionado with either a desire to add to your collection or a need to clean out your closet (or both), we’ve got some great news to share. Legendary auction house Christie’s has expanded its Handbags & Accessories Division to North America, with a headquarters in the company’s Rockefeller Center offices in New York City. Previously, all accessories business was centered in Christie’s London offices, so this expansion provides unprecedented access for American clients.

Christie’s Handbag Specialists Caitlin Donovan and Rachel Koffsky will head up the division, which will source its pieces from North American collectors and have an emphasis on designers like Hermès, Chanel, Céline and Louis Vuitton. The duo is currently accepting consignments for the inaugural New York Handbags & Accessories Auction, to be held in October, with client appointments available both in Christie’s NYC offices and September valuation dates in the company’s Los Angeles, Chicago and South Florida locations. If you have a valuable piece burning a proverbial hole in your pocket, now would be an excellent time to explore its value.

If you’d like to schedule a complimentary valuation appointment for your piece or collection, all the information on doing so is available via Christie’s.

50+ Bags on the Arms of Our Favorite Supermodels

50+ Bags on the Arms of Our Favorite Supermodels

[Editor's Note: This week, the PurseBlog staff is out of the office to enjoy the last little bit of summer. We'll return after Labor Day, but in the meantime, we'll be running both new posts and a few of our favorites from the past few months to get you ready for fall.]

Models and great handbags go together like peanut butter and jelly. Some of our all-time favorite collection profiles have come at the hands of supers like Miranda Kerr, Kate Moss and Alessandra Ambrosio, and if there were a photo agency dedicated purely to documenting their daily outfits, we’d gladly delve into the handbag closets of even more models. Because there isn’t, though, we’ve decided to put together all that we could find from five of our favorite supers whose collections we’ve yet to dissect: Karlie Kloss, Chrissy Teigen, Kate Upton, Adriana Lima and Candice Swanepoel.

The results include over 50 gorgeous designer bag, including some super rare exotics (mostly courtesy of Ms. Upton, who seems to have used entire paychecks to buy things even most handbag lovers can barely dream of). The level to which these ladies are both genetically and sartorially blessed may cause a little bit of envy, but once you get past that, there’s certainly a lot of pretty going on below.

The Best of the Best from #PBWIMB

The Best of the Best from #PBWIMB

Over the past couple of months, you guys have submitted a seemingly endless number pictures of your designer bags and all of their contents. We have so much fun looking at them, we decided to round up some of our absolute favorites. You might be surprised what some people keep in their bags, but one thing’s for sure: there’s no shortage of Chanel and Céline in this roundup!

Take a look at who made our list of the best of the best #PBWIMB pics, and continue to send us your pictures for your chance to be featured! Be sure to follow us on Instagram to follow more of our handbag adventures.

The Many (Many) Bags of Kim Kardashian

The Many (Many) Bags of Kim Kardashian

[Editor's Note: This week, the PurseBlog staff is out of the office to enjoy the last little bit of summer. We'll return after Labor Day, but in the meantime, we'll be running both new posts and a few of our favorites from the past few months to get you ready for fall.]

We’ve been waiting a long time to do this one, and finally, The Many Bags of Kim Kardashian has arrived. The controversial reality star’s bag collection is easily the biggest one we’ve ever dug through, and you might be a little bit surprised by what we found: a lot of fairly conservative choices among the seventy-plus bags we found, many of them used repeatedly over the span of years.

“Kim Kardashian” has practically become a synonym for the excessive vacuousness of fame, but when you get down to it, Kim seems to both really enjoy her handbag collection and choose its contents wisely and with considerable care. She also seems to buy a lot of her bags herself, instead of receiving endless freebies and carrying whatever brands will send her. Hermes very famously does not give freebies or discounts to celebs, and Kim has most certainly spent plenty of her wealth on the acquisition of little (and big) orange boxes. Time and again, I found bags she’s used in the past couple of months popping up in paparazzi pictures from 2009 and 2010, which is a much more judicious use of her handbag backlog than many of us can claim. I’ve never been a Kardashian hater (or a Kardashian lover; I am mostly ambivalent), but after spending a few hours putting these photos together, I wouldn’t mind having a cocktail with Kim. Or looking through her closet, at the very least.

The 10 Best Celebrity Bag Looks of Summer 2014

The 10 Best Celebrity Bag Looks of Summer 2014

Celebs kept it surprisingly covered up and professional this summer (marvel at how many of these celebs are wearing blazers or leather jackets), so much so that I sort of longed for the rampant daisy dukes that came to define summer 2013. Alas, flagrant skin exposure was mainly limited to the midriff this year. Stars mostly played it safe, and let their big, beautiful handbags do the talking. With the sole exception, of course, of Taylor Swift, who moved to Tribeca and completely reinvented herself, style-wise and (apparently!) music-wise as well.

Two other summer 2013 trends that were noticeably absent from summer 2014: neons and minis. They’ve been wholly replaced this season by moderately sized bags in pale, muted tones or rich darks. Between all the blazers and the unseasonal hues, you’d hardly know it was summer at all, if not for the fact that almost every one of these celebs is wearing a fabulous pair of designer sunglasses. But while the outfits sometimes left something to be desired, the bags certainly did not. Take a gander at our picks for the best celeb bag choices of the season, and tell us what you carried this summer!

Nicky Hilton Pulls a Seasons-Old Louis Vuitton Bag Out of Her Closet

Nicky Hilton Pulls a Seasons-Old Louis Vuitton Bag Out of Her Closet

Here’s Nicky Hilton, headed to lunch at The Smile in downtown Manhattan, carrying a Louis Vuitton Trompe L’oeil Trocadero Bag, which, according to our research, seems to date all the way back to Fall 2006. I’d like to think she pulled this one out of the archives just for us. In any case, this Trocadero looks great with her simple little black dress and eye-popping animal print sandals.

Nicky has two truly splendid editions of “The Many Bags” (which you can view here and here), but I don’t think we saw this particular Louis Vuitton bag in either one of them. Which begs the question: is Nicky holding out on us?! Oh, what we wouldn’t do in exchange for a full guided tour of her handbag stash. (Are you listening, Nicky? Let’s make this happen.)

Louis Vuitton to Release $54,500 Croc Bag for Fall 2014

Louis Vuitton to Release $54,500 Croc Bag for Fall 2014

Just when we thought we’d found all the mind-bending price information we could handle for the upcoming season, Louis Vuitton has gone and reminded us that one of the many internal changes it’s making is adding more high-priced exotic bags to its selection. The Louis Vuitton Crocodile Lady Bag PM, which made its public debut in the brand’s Fall 2014 runway show, will retail for a staggering $54,500.

This price information comes to us via ILVoeLV.com, which is a reliable source of intel on Vuitton’s machinations, especially when it comes to handbags. The bag includes two finishes of croc and measures slightly over a foot wide at its largest point. There’s no word on how many of these bags will be made, but it’s likely to be an extremely limited piece. After all, only so many people can afford to buy a bag that costs more than 50 grand in the first place.

On top of that, the bag has a, uh, very specific aesthetic. Most bags in this price range are simply exotic recreations of designs that the buying public has already embraced with open arms, like the Givenchy Antigona or Fendi 2Jours, but this one is an untested bag shape from new creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere’s first collection for the brand.

The bag is easily more expensive than any of the other seasonal offerings we found online for Fall 2014, although I’d be shocked if it were made available via Vuitton’s website.

Instagram Handbag Celebrity: @mwanwan

Having beautiful accessories will get you well on your way to having a great Instagram collection, but taking great pictures to showcase those beautiful accessories is just as important. This week, we’ve chosen one of our favorite Instagram collections: that of Michelle Wan, better known as @mwanwan. Not only does @mwanwan have more Chanel and Hermès bags than we could possibly count, but she manages to stage her pictures perfectly for an absolutely gorgeous result.

Mwanwan is a style blogger from Hong Kong who has a serious love for designer handbag and shoes. (Our kind of girl). Apart from the pictures of her accessories, you’ll find plenty of pictures of how she styles her bags and jewelry with different outfits, which is something we, as followers, love to see.

We selected some of our absolute favorites (it was really difficult not to pick them all) from Wan’s account, so take a look below and see for yourself. To see more of her feed, head straight to @mwanwan’s Instagram or her style blog, Mwanwan by Michelle.

The Many Bag Of InStyle Magazine’s Editors

The Many Bag Of InStyle Magazine’s Editors

We love our glossies as much as any fashion people, and one of the industry’s major magazines is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year. InStyle Magazine launched in 1994 with Barbra Streisand on its cover, and since its inception, the magazine has grown its global reach to over 21 million subscribers. With Ariel Foxman at the helm, InStyle has made waves in the fashion sphere with an approachable attitude along with an ever-expanding online presence.

This year’s September issue is the biggest in the brand’s two-decade history. To celebrate the 20th Anniversary, Julia Roberts graces this milestone cover, which will hit newsstands this Friday, August 15th.

Recently, we spent the day with 20 InStyle editors (to celebrate the 20th Anniversary, natch!) to see which bags they carry to work. From Louis Vuitton, to Balenciaga, to lots of Saint Laurent, take a look at the many bags of InStyle Magazine’s editors.

PurseForum Roundup – August 8

PurseForum Roundup – August 8

Welcome to the PurseForum Roundup! Every Friday we bring you the best reveals and conversations happening at fashion’s liveliest destination. This week, it’s all about bags–well, mostly–in CoachKate Spade and Proenza Schouler. We also visit the Playground to check into some of the non-fashion related topics. Come along and join us!

New Coach Bag

We dropped into Coach and immediately spotted a promising thread, with which were not disappointed! We loved this sleek Rhyder in gunmetal, which makes a great addition to ilovecoach’s bag family. Crystal-d also added a gunmetal Rhyder to her collection, and fans considering this leather will appreciate how different it looks in changing light. This is definitely a favorite of ours!

Coach Collection

It was such a busy week for reveals in Coach that we found several irresistible ones, including this family shot from GA Peach – be sure to check her thread to see what else she got to go with this gorgeous trio. We also found another interesting topic that many of us can relate to, regardless of the brand we favor. Drop into louisprada25′s “I’m All Coached Out” to join in the conversation. We also found a bit of a cat-related situation that you will want to check out. (Don’t worry, it looks like an easy repair)!

Printed Chocolates

Roundup readers know that we love to feature our non-fashion subforums – these are the places where our members share their personal lives, and we always find plenty to keep our attention. This week, we visited The Kitchen and found ninja-please had shared these decadent decorated chocolates in the I Ate This thread, one of our favorites on the PurseForum.

Elsewhere in the Playground, we are following the medical crisis in Africa in Up To The Minute, along with discussions on other topics topping the news charts. We also found plenty of food for thought in the Money Talks subforum, including our discussion on the end of tipping in America, staying on a budget and real estate. We hope that you will explore the Playground, find a subforum or conversation and jump in!

Kate Spade Bag

Isn’t this great! We found reenxo’s pretty new navy Minka in Kate Spade, and be sure to check out this post, where she shows us all the colorful things inside, too! Silverstar16 really “pinked” it up with her latest purchases, all together here in a brilliant family photo. Whether you are a longtime fan of the brand or just starting your discovery, you will enjoy our Show Us Your Kate Spade thread, where our members share their collections. You can also see these bags in action in the Which Kate Spade are You Carrying Today thread.

Proenza Schouler Tiny PS1 Bag

We visited Proenza Schouler, where we always find stylish, bags in stunning colors – like this shimmering blue lagoon PS1 from ichan. Loewejess also got a new PS1, this one in rich ruby chianti. And lovers of purple will not want to miss this PS1 in delicious plum from mcg3897. You can learn everything you could ever need to know in our extensive and informative PS1 thread, full of input, tips and styling ideas devoted to the PS1 line from our members. Proenza Schouler makes other bags, too, of course, including this sleek PS11 from AliciaBB.

Louis Vuitton Luggage Tag

Big bag purchases are fun, and we enjoy sharing them. But we also love the “smalls”; the delightful little gems that our favorite design houses put out that add that special touch to a bag, outfit or even a piece of luggage, like this elegant Louis Vuitton luggage tag BlueMaude recently revealed. RhondaE also picked up a wee bit of luscious LV, this time a Pochette with a twist.

You can also find plenty of wonderful small treasures in the Hermès Ode to Leather Key Charms threads, where our members are really enjoying collecting these charming little animals and other motifs, like sparklelisab’s precious rocking horse.

Thank you for stopping by and checking out this week’s PurseForum Roundup! We know we have plenty of regular readers and we certainly appreciate that you take a bit of time every Friday to share the conversations and handbags from our Forum. We will see you right here next week, and in the meantime, have a great weekend and enjoy the week ahead. See you next week!

Emma Roberts Carries a Vintage Louis Vuitton Backpack

Emma Roberts Carries a Vintage Louis Vuitton Backpack

Here’s actress Emma Roberts, leaving the salon in West Hollywood with some fresh blonde locks and a Louis Vuitton Monogram Montsouris Backpack. This particular model of backpack is no longer made, and judging by the patina on this one’s leather trim, I’m guessing Emma picked it up as a vintage piece. In case you weren’t aware, you can now shop a vast assortment of vintage Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Fendi and Gucci bags and accessories at ShopBop.

Emma Roberts has one of those Hollywood careers that perplexes me greatly. She’s never been in anything wildly successful; in fact her biggest earners might’ve been the PG flicks she first appeared in way back in 2006-2007. And yet, her star never seems to falter, regardless of whether or not she’s actually appearing in films. (I had the same thoughts recently about Rachel McAdams.) Anyways, Emma’s been around long enough to amass an impressive designer handbag collection, which you can peruse at your leisure here.

Decorate Your Bag with Enough Bits, Bobs, Charms and Fobs to Create a Whole Second Bag

Decorate Your Bag with Enough Bits, Bobs, Charms and Fobs to Create a Whole Second Bag

We are living in a golden age of things to hang from your handbag. Bag charms have been reasonably well-liked since back in the day of the ultra-collectable Prada robots, but it’s the Fendi Bag Bugs that have really rocketed the accessory-on-accessory look to its current popularity. With Fendi selling fur puff charms hand over fist, more and more companies have entered the market in the past year, to mostly adorable effect.

Bag Bugs can run you $800 and are nearly impossible to track down without a pre-order, so below, we’ve assembled an extensive list of alternatives, including a bunch that will cost you far less. From tiny bags to hang on your bag to two different fox-shapes options, these funny little bits are the perfect balancing agent to the wave of minimalism that’s overtaken accessories design in the past few seasons. You can have your cake and eat it too; a beautiful bag with a bit of fun clipped on at will.

All of these bags have spring locks that make them easy to hook onto a bag’s hardware, but if you’d rather put one inside your bag, you can do that too – almost all have key rings that allow for more discreet, functional use.

Man Bag Monday: Louis Vuitton Président Classeur Briefcase

Man Bag Monday: Louis Vuitton Président Classeur Briefcase

I’ve got a Monday morning confession for you guys: I listen to too much Drake. Arguably, any Drake is “too much Drake,” but I probably listen to too much, even by lenient standards. We all have our crosses to bear. In one song that comes up often on my iPod (“Up All Night,” if you’d like to Google it and then judge me accordingly), rapper Nicki Minaj makes a guest appearance in which she speaks of giving Lil Wayne the “Louis Presidential Briefcase.” If she’s speaking of the Louis Vuitton Président Classeur Briefcase, Ms. Minaj clearly has fine taste.

The Président Classeur is, like a Birkin, a bag that’s really in-your-face about being expensive and made of fine materials without being logo-ridden or otherwise obvious. It’s discreet, in a way, but in other ways, totally not discreet–you can tell it costs a zillion dollars from 20 paces, even if you’re not someone who’s well-versed in luxury goods. It’s the perfect status-symbol accessory for men (unless you count watches, which we don’t, because this is not the place for watches).

Of course, it has a price tag to match. Pick up one of your own for $11,100 via Louis Vuitton.

Instagram Handbag Celebrity: @mjsicilia

Instagram Handbag Celebrity: @mjsicilia

With over 73,000 followers, it’s no wonder I took one look at @mjsicilia’s Instagram and immediately found myself endlessly scrolling through her feed of designer handbags and shoes. With numerous luxury watches, a variety of Louis Vuitton scarves and plenty of diamond accessories, I couldn’t help but wonder what the inside of her closet looked like. Unlike many of the other Instagrammers we’ve profiled, I loved that @mjsilicia showed us how she uses her designer accessories in her daily life by showcasing her full outfits.

If there’s one thing you’ll notice the second you begin scrolling through @mjsilicia’s Instagram, it’s that she like to stick to a specific color palette of black, grey, camel and white, which makes her a woman after my own heart. So while many Instagram stars enjoy their collections of rainbow-colored Hermès bags, this Instagrammer prefers her family of black accessories.

Check out some of my favorite pictures from her collection or head straight to @mjsilicia’s profile to see all of her 1,000-plus photos!

THE ART OF PACKING

LV5

So, a couple f weeks ago I got a lesson in the art of packing from Louis Vuitton, which was an experience in itself to say the least! I’ve always thought I was pretty good at packing (the days of assisting as well as the start of my career as a stylist have included countless times of packing smart, always struggling with fitting a bit too much into suitcases and shopping bags with wheels) until now, that is. Well, I’m good at finding space so when one of the very nice experts from Louis Vuitton told me about the rolling instead of folding it didn’t come as a big surprice. However, it was HOW he did it. I’m telling you, I’ve never seen shirts folded like that, it was layers and layers of shirts, taking up no space and best of all -they didn’t get creases when unpacking!

Above are some of my favourite pieces from Louis Vuitton, as well as some personal favourites from my very own wardrobe (nude coloured top from Stella McCartney, note book from Smythson jeans from Frame Denim), which I included in my art of packing. Actually, when doing my packing for vacation I noticed this little lesson came in more than handy and as I was unpacking my bag I found that none of the shirts and silk dresses I brought had creases on them. That’s what I call skill, people.

Hilary Duff Doubles Up with Bags from Louis Vuitton and Goyard

Hilary Duff Doubles Up with Bags from Louis Vuitton and Goyard

Here’s Hilary Duff, leaving a fitness studio in West Hollywood, carrying a Louis Vuitton Speedy Empreinte 25 Bandoulière Bag and a Goyard St. Louis Tote. Strangely enough, we’ve seen Hilary carry both of these bags before, which is a definite first/sign of the end times. We know from extensive research that Hilary uses her many lightweight, durable Goyard totes as diaper bags and gym bags fairly frequently. Goyard doesn’t sell its bags online, but you can find Hilary’s Speedy for $2,840 at Louis Vuitton.

Hilary Duff’s handbag collection seems to expand exponentially with every passing season. If you feel the need to keep abreast of every Duff acquisition in recent history, you’ve certainly come to the right place. Though, be warned: it’s an alarming amount of handbags. Check out “The Many Bags of Hilary Duff” and “The Many Bags of Hilary Duff, Part 2.”

Louis Vuitton Finally Redesigned Its Website

Louis Vuitton Finally Redesigned Its Website

Louis Vuitton has always had one of the more comprehensive websites of the major handbag brands – it’s always had e-commerce, and even for pieces not sold online, prices and color options were generally available for shopper’ perusal – but it’s never been one of the more functional of fashion’s branded sites. Thanks to Nicolas Ghesquiere and his new vision for the brand, all that has changed. Please say the appropriate thank-yous to the deity of your choice.

If anyone on Earth hated Louis Vuitton’s old website more than I did, it was probably some poor Vuitton employee that was required to use it every day; I simply visited once or twice a week, and rarely did I not find something that was buggy or broken. It was slow, non-intuitive and cumbersome to load even on my super-speedy and up-to-date work computer, but much have that has been fixed.

Ghesquiere has done quite a bit to refocus the Vuitton aesthetic in his time at the brand, and much of that has been by way of simplification. LV will never be minimalist, but Ghesquiere’s always had a knack for stripping away unnecessary things, and you can see that in not only his designs, but also the ad campaign and now the website that have come along to represent them.

The new site has largely the same features as the previous one, but without as much bulky, slow-loading, buggy Flash animation. Bag photos are big and clear, with white backgrounds instead of the previous colors, and switching between colorways and sizes in a single bag takes far less loading time.

Best of all, the motion sickness-inducing carousel for browsing bags in a particular category is gone; instead, shoppers can simply scroll up and down through thumbnail listings, as basically every other retail site allows us to do. For Vuitton, whose online experience has been so bad, for so long, it feels practically revolutionary.

Check out some stills of the site below or test it out for yourself at LouisVuitton.com.

Check Out What Your Favorite Stars Carry to the Beach

I have a friend who brings her Prada bag to the beach. She’s a sensible girl at heart, and her attitude about her bag is that it’s hers, it’s saffiano and it should be able to put up with a little sand every now and then. And largely, she’s right – it never looks any worse for the wear.

Talking about that with her got me thinking about the bags that we see celebrities toting to the beach. During this time of year, our photo agency has plenty of photos of stars sunning themselves with expensive handbags in tow, and to investigate their choices (spoiler alert: lots of Louis Vuitton), we’ve assembled several dozen images of celebs and their beach bags below.

Introducing the Louis Vuitton Marly Bag

Introducing the Louis Vuitton Marly Bag

We already know what Louis Vuitton’s quest for fancier customers means on the high end of the brand’s price spectrum, but changes in LV’s mid-range bags, like those made of Epi or Vernis leather, have been a little slower to materialize. As a business strategy, that’s somewhat predictable – give people something super-expensive over which to work themselves into a lather, and then roll out incrementally more accessible options that embody the same style to capture greater market share. Thus, we bring you news of the brand new Louis Vuitton Marly Bag.

The Marly, which comes in both MM (16.1″ x 14.2″ x 6.7″) and smaller BB (13.4″ x 10.6″ x 5.1″) sizes, has a grained Epi leather body with smooth leather handles and accents. Both versions come with a shoulder strap, although the BB’s is longer, allowing it to be carried across the body. The only external branding is an embossed LV monogram at the bottom right corner.

The most notable feature of this design is its subtlety; the bag lacks extraneous trim, embellishment or hardware, which creates a final look that’s both luxurious and discreet. In the past, it would have been hard to imagine carrying almost any Louis Vuitton bag into a conservative office, but this one would fit in beautifully without being boring. At $2,350 for the BB and $2,810 for the MM, it’s exactly the kind of mid-line bag Vuitton needs to produce in order to attract the sophisticated consumers the brand is after.

Check out the available colors below. This is easily my favorite new Vuitton bag in recent memory; are you as into it as I am?

Louis Vuitton Debuts More of Nicolas Ghesquiere’s New Ad Campaign

Louis Vuitton Debuts More of Nicolas Ghesquiere’s New Ad Campaign

We brought you the first look at Nicolas Ghesquiere’s inaugural campaign for Louis Vuitton two weeks ago, and since then, the brand has slowly released new images from legendary photographers Bruce Weber, Juergen Teller and Annie Leibovitz. We’ve collected them for examination, and if nothing else, they show a new creative director with an exceptionally clear vision.

Ghesquiere’s view of Vuitton, seen through both the photographs and the clothes themselves, is markedly less obviously glam than that of predecessor Marc Jacobs. Take a look at the new images below – are you excited for what Nicolas Ghesquiere has in store at Vuitton?

The Stunning Louis Vuitton Capucines

The Stunning Louis Vuitton Capucines

Every bag lover knows the iconic Louis Vuitton monogram pattern, but the House of Louis Vuitton dates back to the mid-1850s and has a long line of heritage and craftsmanship. My newest obsession is the Louis Vuitton Capucines bags, whose name pays homage to the earliest Louis Vuitton Maison, which was located on rue Neuve-des-Capucines in 1854.

The signature bag may look simple, but it’s anything but. The bag is a marriage of two leathers: rounded, strong bull-calf leather alongside supple, silky calfskin. The combination adds a level of discreet elegance that is hard to ignore.

Consumers have turned away from monograms as a whole, from luxury designers and contemporary brands like Coach alike, and clearly Louis Vuitton listens to its shoppesr. Sure, some may still want to buy the classic monogram bags, but many prefer the timeless elegance that remains part of the brand’s heritage.

With the Capucines, you get an extremely very well-made bag, which takes over 250 individual handcrafted operations to arrive at the final product. The colors vary season to season, with one of my favorite renditions right now following the snakeskin handle trend.

Another special touch surrounds Louis Vuitton’s initials, which have never been seen in this interpretation. The LV initials are sheathed in bull-calf leather and then inserted into claws set into the grain of the leather. It may not seem like a big deal, but this is new for the brand and took its craftsmen much careful development.

When I learned the intricate design details that went into production of this bag, I expected higher price tags. And with the Capucines, you are looking at some of the largest price tags Vuitton offers for its leather bags. A Capucines can be had for $4,400 for the smaller BB, $5,600 for the MM, and $6,050 for the GM via Louis Vuitton.

Check Out Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2015 Men’s Accessories

While Louis Vuitton’s women’s business has been in a state of flux over the past two seasons, the men’s side has been humming along quite nicely in the hands of creative director Kim Jones. Jones’ has done a great deal in his relatively short tenure at the brand to make the men’s line distinctive, including creating its own logo of sorts. For Louis Vuitton Men’s Spring 2015, Jones continued to build on that foundation.

The bags are all as lush we’ve come to expect from Louis Vuitton, especially now that the brand is attempting to focus on leather instead of monogram canvas. Indeed, many of these bags feature the signature logo fabric as an accent to wide swaths of leather, instead of the other way around, which was Vuitton’s MO for much of the past 15 years. Below, check out some behind-the-scenes photos of the collection’s accessories, bags and beyond.

PurseForum Roundup – June 27

PurseForum Roundup – June 27

Good day, PurseForum Roundup readers! Unbelievably, it’s the last Roundup for June, which puts us halfway through 2014! This week, we visited Jimmy Choo, where we found some beautiful reveals of shoes and bags. We also found some super finds in Coach, including a rare bag marking a Coach milestone! A visit to the Wardrobe had us pondering our personal style, and there was loads to see in Louis Vuitton. And that’s not all!

Jimmy Choo Anouk Pumps

Jimmy Choo Anouks are certainly one of the most beloved and iconic shoes styles in the fashion universe. Shoegalkirsty took a moment to reveal her first pair this week, in absolutely classic and gorgeous black. Our member JustShoeMe took a walk on the wilder side of Jimmy Choo with her first pair of Choos, the striking and stylish Heath. Of course Jimmy Choo makes more than shoes, and this beautiful Rania bag sure put a smile on Izzy48′s  face this month!

Scottish Girl’s fun new birthday clutch sure put a smile on ours, and this little gem looks splendid in fire engine red. The front page of this subforum is full of reveals, so be sure to drop in and see what our Jimmy Choo fans have added to their collections. If you are a Choo fan, the Let’s Talk about Jimmy Choo Shoes thread is the place to visit if you cant get enough of these fabulous shoes.

Louis Vuitton Epi Vernis Alma Bag

Louis Vuitton lovers make LV one of our busiest subforums, and this week we found plenty of reveals. RhondaE is back after a little hiatus with a brand new bag; you can catch a better look at this charming epi Alma in her updated family photo, it’s actually a soft mint green perfect for summer. Bajan Love’s patience really paid off when she found her dream bag completely by chance and got a steal of a deal!

BellaNLawrence gave us some food for thought when she asked if age and the desire for vintage bags go hand in hand in this new thread. Marguch showed off her new shawl and got some support when she had a little bit of a mishap. The June purchases thread is understandably one of the hottest on the PurseForum, and bag buys like Love2learn’s new Speedy and ivy1026′s sleek black Marly are among the many reasons why.

Remember, if you are considering a purchase, all of our subforums have extensive Reference Libraries like this one to help you find your way.

Celine Luggage Tote Street Style

This week in The Wardrobe, we paid a visit to the Outfit of the Day thread, the perfect place to find fashion inspiration from our own PurseForum members. Agalorowicz showed off her casual style with this cute summer outfit in a soft beige palette. We also paid a visit to bakeacookie’s new Stylebook thread, which we love. The outfits are terrific and the advice worth its weight in gold. We hope to see more of these stylebooks in the very near future!

We didn’t want to leave this busy subforum without a shoutout to one of our favorite threads: The Women of a Certain Age thread in The Wardrobe, a raucous place bursting with snappy commentary accompanying inspiring photographs of stylish ladies who are getting it right in the second half of life. June has been especially busy in this wonderful thread, and we hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did!

Green Bag Black Skirt

Over in the Bag Showcase, we found a really outstanding thread that we had missed: Manelight’s collection thread. She has paired lower-priced bags like this pretty green Fossil bag with well-chosen wardrobe pieces for unique and beautiful looks. We love when our members inspire us by stepping a little out of the mainstream. (Though we love the mainstream, too!)

Chanel Handbag Collection

Speaking of mainstream bags we love, minigingerbread managed to get all of her Chanel bags to sit still long enough for this beautiful family photo that we had to share with you all. Be sure to catch the close up of the cute little pouch, and its charming story.

Trendiebaggie also shared her bag family this month, and this busy mom is not fooling around – her bags are amazing! We also took a moment to do what PurseBlog team members love almost as much buying ourselves new bags – looking inside YOUR bags! The What’s in Your Chanel thread provides endless entertainment if you love small leather goods and purse goodies, and we know you do! Also, at press time, ilovecocochanel revealed this fantastic new Boy, a must see!

Coach Woven Kristen Bag

In Coach, bags seem to be flying off the shelves and into the closets of our members. This week, in the Your New Coach Mini-Reveal thread, we found a sweet bag find from buffalochick, and then another! Iluvcoach also added a new Phoebe, and its little friend, too! Elsewhere in Coach, our members are also discussing the latest news about Coach’s restructuring, and what makes a Coach bag classic.

Coach Tag

We also found something very special, as lucky member CoachCruiser shared a rare treasure she found on eBay, and lucky you – you can see the whole bag right here in all its glory! Not to toot our own horn, but the official Coach Fall 2014 Preview thread is one of the hottest in this subforum, and you can join in the conversation any time!

That finishes up our Roundup for the last Friday in June, and we hope you have enjoyed our little romp through the PurseForum. We always love sharing bags and all the other wonderful things our forum has to offer, and we will be back in July with more. In the meantime, have a fabulous summer weekend and enjoy the week ahead!

Louis Vuitton Debuts Nicolas Ghesquiere’s First Ad Campaign

Louis Vuitton Debuts Nicolas Ghesquiere’s First Ad Campaign

If you need a demonstration of how differently Nicolas Ghesquiere sees Louis Vuitton than predecessor Marc Jacobs, look no further than the Louis Vuitton Fall 2014 ad campaign, Ghesquiere’s first at the brand, which was unveiled by Women’s Wear Daily yesterday. The photos, shot be legends Bruce Weber, Annie Leibovitz and Juergen Teller, are quite the departure from the LV we’ve known for over a decade and a half.

The photos feature models Freja Beha Erichsen, Liya Kebede, and Jean Campbell, as well as actress Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Vuitton is saying that Ghesquiere gave each photographer artistic license to depict the collection in whatever ways they chose. Indeed, each photographer’s style is immediately recognizable, from Weber’s outdoorsy black-and-whites to Leibovtiz’s soft portraiture. All of the photos lack the heavy glamour that Jacobs often brought to the brand and instead favor a subtler, more retro approach that’s more about mood than product.

Check out the first four ads from the campaign below.

Triple Threat

A photographer triple threat.

Three major photographers signed on to shoot Nicolas Ghesquière’s first campaign for Louis Vuitton (starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, among others). Annie Leibovitz, Bruce Weber and Juergen Teller came together to shoot the images. It’s not often (re: never happens) that three big photographers work together on a project like this. It’s cool to see their photos paired together!

PurseForum Roundup – June 20

PurseForum Roundup – June 20

It’s Friday again, and that means another fabulous PurseForum Roundup. We always have lots going on throughout our Forum and are happy to bring you a collection of highlights. This week, we visited a couple of islands – Ban Islands, that is, as well as our Playground for some television and book fare. We also found some scrumptious bags, so come on along and join us!

Louis Vuitton Epi Alma Bag

This week in Television and Cinema, we are still all about the Game of Thrones finale, as well gearing up for the final season of True Blood. Of course, we also have a huge selection of other television shows and movies. You’ll also find plenty of summer reading suggestions in Books and Music, including our 2014 Reading Challenges and the Take a Picture of the Book You are Reading thread.

In Home and Garden, we spent some time in the What Does Your Room Look Like thread, where we found some very talented interior decorators on our Forum. In the General Discussion’s own What are You Lacking the Motivation to Do conversation, we found lots of tasks that we would not be motivated to do, either! Dropping in random threads like this is always a kick, and there are plenty in the Playground to entertain you.

Christian Louboutin Python Pumps

Aren’t these fabulous! We visited the Christian Louboutin subforum and found these python Jaws in Show Off Your New Shoes, one of our favorite threads in Shoes, Shoes, Shoes. Pearyfooa picked up two pairs of CLs on sale, including a towering pair of 120mm Biancas that we definitely appreciate.

Member kham shared her new pair of brilliant fluo Pigalles, also in 120mm, and before you click, be sure you have your sunglasses on – they are absolutely blinding! If you are new to the brand, or just having trouble keeping up with all the styles, you will find lots of help in What Style is This? – definitely the place to go if you spot a pair of hot shoes in a magazine, movie or even on eBay! If Christian Louboutin is not your cup of tea, visit the Glass Slipper for all the rest of your favorite brands – maybe even some you have not yet met!

Yves Saint Laurent Muse Tote

Yves Saint Laurent’s iconic Muse bag tops the charts in the Saint Laurent subforum this week. Intrigued by the “It Started with House of Cards” thread title, we dropped in and saw that ElainePG had scored a sweet little Muse after being inspired by the popular TV show. Mouniae also added a Muse to her bag collection – her first YSL bag is a medium version in classic cognac. Be sure to visit the Sales and Deals thread if you are considering a purchase; our members are always happy help direct one another to the best prices on their favorite bags and accessories.

Balenciaga Pink City Bag

In Balenciaga this week, we found a reveal underway right at our deadline. We jumped in to see what the heck an “Oh heck” reveal could mean, and learned something new! You may remember Ban Island, that special place in many of our designer subforums where our members go to wait out their bag-buying ban. Well, it turns out Ban Island residents can go on Shore Leave, Worth It Weekend or just slip up and say Oh Heck, I bought a new bag. Rainneday made her purchase under the latter exemption and shared her new City with us before hotfooting it back to Balenciaga’s own Ban Island.

Elsewhere in Balenciaga, Dearest Girl is looking for some help with a new purchase, while London411 and aznanjl are seeking help with color decisions. We also found a cyclamen City belonging to hiro838 in the May-June Purchases thread – this bag is absolutely picture-perfect and wonderful for summer. You will find lots more reveals in this thread; our Balenciaga gals have been very busy this summer!

Chanel Classic Flap Bag

In Chanel, coxswain celebrated a very special move with a new Reissue that will definitely come in handy. We join the rest of her Chanel friends in thanking her husband for his service, and sharing her happiness at returning to their home state after a long absence. And of course, what a great new bag!

We also spotted this quintessential Classic Flap in luscious lambskin that bagloverny added to her collection; this iconic bag will surely be a wardrobe staple and, well, we want it (but we haven’t gotten a ticket off Ban Island yet)! And, heads up, the Pre-Summer Sale thread just started, and we are sure this will be a hot destination full of wonderful reveals and cannot wait to check back.

Chanel Castle Rock Bag

On our way out of Chanel, we spotted helenhandbag’s Amsterdam reveal of a spectacular new bag called Castle Rock and had to share. You can read all about it here, and generous helen has also included codes if you are hoping to add this new bag to your collection.

The Many Bags of Sarah Jessica Parker, Part Two

The Many Bags of Sarah Jessica Parker, Part Two

Sarah Jessica Parker is as close to a true original as actresses get these days. She’s made her own way, and now she occupies a beloved space in pop culture (and especially in fashion) that gives her the ability simply to be loved by being her. When she launched a shoe line at Nordstrom, of course every fashion site on the Internet covered it feverishly. Sex and the City ended long ago, but SJP endures.

We’ve already taken one thorough look at Sarah Jessica’s bag collection, but that was back at the tail end of 2012, and she’s done a lot of bag-carrying in the intervening year and a half. Below, check out everything that everyone’s favorite West Village resident has been sporting since then.
