21 Vegan Bags for the Leather-Averse Bag Lovers Among Us

21 Vegan Bags for the Leather-Averse Bag Lovers Among Us

If you love accessories and fashion but don’t love buying or wearing animal products, you have my sympathies. Several of you have asked me to do a leather-free bag roundup over the past couple of months, and when I set out to do just that, the irritation and frustration of trying to find a designer bag that fits that description became clear.

Most online retailers won’t let you filter their products by material, and most in-site search functions don’t crawl the fabrication information to return results; that means that searching for “faux leather” or “PVC” is only helpful if the retailer’s copy team has included those keywords in the product’s name or general description, which isn’t always (or even usually) the case. Also, totes from designer brands that are made of primarily non-leather materials often have little bits of leather trim, and how retailers notate that fact varies widely and can be difficult to figure out for sure.

That being said, I feel as though my search was reasonable successful; ultimately, it yielded nearly two dozen bags from big-name designers like Givenchy and Bottega Veneta, as well as more affordable options from all-vegan lines like Deux Lux and Street Level. There’s even a faux leather Antigona, in case you’re looking for an ethical It Bag. Check out our finds below.

In my opinion, the best feeling in the world is when you are able to snuggle up in some comfortable clothes, giving you this confidence boost to start your day!In my case, knitwear is my essential piece of clothing when the weather starts getting chilly as there are infinite ways of mixing and matching this garment depending on the look you are after.

Today I’m wearing: Zara jumper (similar), Topshop skirt (similar), Amanda Wakeley bag and Charlotte Olympia flats.

ART BASEL MIAMI 2014 – diary

hbz-street-style-art-basel-day2-Gala-Gonzalez-lg

My time in the States is coming to an end, it has been a wonderful week where I have been able to catch up with my friends, soak up in the sun, recharge batteries for the new year and also get some work done! When you are heading to Art Basel you need to up your game and go for a bold look that you feel comfortable with and that at the same time you are making an statement. I decided to wear a Current Elliott Shirt , leather Topshop Unique pants , Fendi Bag and Gianvito Rossi flats. For more laidback occasions I rather go for my new favourite Stylestalker white top (similar) and some Levis shorts for instance. Also, when you are thrown into this long haul flights I will slip into something that would make my journey more pleasant such as some AG Jeans and my all time basics, Superga sneakers. Then, once you hit Miami, its all about sunnies like mine from HipsteepsHelmut Lang and Robin collection swimwear and wearing printed jumpsuits like the Self-portrait ones. Today I’m showing you a tiny insight of what it has been going on these past couple of days, hope you enjoy it!

Look of the Day.395: Earthy Denim

cara IMG_1066 IMG_1133 Sin título-2

Just before heading to the States to work on some exciting new projects I wanted to share with you my latest look. You all know that skinny jeans are my ultimate essential but I couldn’t resist to wear this mum jeans that give off that 60s vibe that I crave in all of my looks. Plus, being comfortable is a must in my day-to-day basis and with this outfit I know I can’t go wrong.
Today I’m wearing: Topshop jumper (similar here), Lee Jeans (similar here), Citizens of Humanity Coat, Furla bag, Nicholas Kirkwood pumps (similar here) and Wilhelmina Garcia bangles.

I’ve been feeling very monotone lately. With so much work lately, all I want to do is make other facets of my life a little easier. Enter, dressing in solids! On Monday I wore all camel (much easier than you think to do!) and today all in black. I’ve also been wearing more small scarves around my neck. So French n’est-ce pas? I wish! But seriously, a fun little ‘punch’ to add some depth.

Brrrrrrrr, it’s getting cold!  I’ve been napping a lot lately like a lazy couch-potato cat I’ve been working hard from photography assignments and all that travelling.   Lately, I’ve been experiencing some bad luck which normally happen every autumn, until recently, my Old Lady (I called my old Macbook Pro 15″ Old Lady) died on me again which was partly my fault for storing 750GB worth of media files on to desktop which wrecked the hard drive, flight cancellation and missing a flight on a recent press trip.  And a few days ago I slipped and fell hard on a marble floor in the porch whilst clutching my laptop, never mind the bruises I was glad the Old Lady was safe and sound.

As part of the Biker Portraits project, I was asked by All Saints what was the best gig I ever saw, it was Stromae.  I first discovered the singer when he performed at Festival Mawazine in Rabat this summer, I didn’t know what to expect as I never heard of him before and he’s very very popular in European music scenes.  Stromae, a singer and song writer from Belgian, unknown to me, his hip hop and electronic music genres sums up my love for electronic and post-modern 80s influence, the song Tous les Memes has been stuck in my head for many days after watching his high energy performance, and I managed to download his album, although the tracks were sung in French, I didn’t care it was too good!

Wardrobe: Silk blouse – courtesy of Stills Atelier, biker leather jacket – courtesy of All Saints, skinny jeans from Topshop, bag and boots from Jimmy Choo.  Ring from V Jewellery (nicked from my sister Isabella), and watch from Olivia Burton – courtesy of Twisted Time.

Denim Dreams

They do come true.

Marques’ Almeida is set to release a collection with Topshop come October 9th. (Please take a moment to add it to your calendar. You good? Okay.) It’s 68 pieces (!!!) and the frayed denim looks are everything you ever hoped for. I’ve been a fan since I spotted Felicity in one of their dresses. I like that they’re taking something basic (denim) and added a cool twist to it.

For now, I’ve got my eye on that denim parka…

Think Pink

I have a slight addiction to pink sunglasses.

The last two pairs I had (both vintage and irreplaceable) ended up disappearing into that dreaded sunglasses black hole. In searching for (yet another) replacement pair, I found these little pink cat-eyes at Topshop.

At least now I’ll know where to find them when they go missing…

the white dress

vedaleatherdress4vedaleatherdress3vedaleatherdress1vedaleatherdress2

I think this will officially be my default summer dress. Despite having received this quite some time ago, I was waiting to pull it out for somewhere hot and exotic. Hello Morocco! With deep cutting sides, discreet front pockets, and (big AND!) buttery white leather outer, this is not only versatile but very practical. Veda has convinced this A-line-dress-deserter to embrace the silhouette again, and never too soon! Meanwhile, in Marrakesh I’m catching up on work and looking for cool places to explore in the next city of this 10 day trip. Let me know if you have any recommendations for Fez!

The Midi

I love midi skirts.

So much that I bought three of them – my favorite comes from (as it happens too much) Zara – and I wear them as often as possible.

All right, that’s stretching it a bit.
Truth is, it’s mostly beautiful with heels.
It’s more difficult with flats. With shoes like Birks, it’s too heavy. With more delicate sandals, it’s too classic. And with sneakers, well, not so great.

Whitney Brown Baleciaga Boots Street Style

Maybe I’m wrong – it’s pretty cool on Whitney!

What do you think? Do you wear midi skirts? What shoes do you wear them with?

Can’t help but looking forward to summer, heat and ice cream!  Okay, flowers included too but they are the bitches of summer for the sneezing epidemic, soggy tissues, and stockpile of meds for hayfever sufferers. Never mind me, I’ll be missing the peak June season while I’m holidaying in Hong Kong and Seoul next month…but then there’s air pollution and indoor Artic conditions to cope with too.

Clifton Nurseries is a must visit in spring, new darling buds in full lustfulness, some have bloomed prematurely or some still in infancy due to the recent unpredictable weather that affects the flowering stage.  I love admiring their juicy succulents and tropical plants in the conservatory, absorbing the ray of sunshine and have a free quickie sauna-ish experience, pores out!   At The Quince Tree cafe located within the nurseries, you have five minutes to drool over the glossy treats and artistic foamy coffee before reaching out the evil smartphones for the Instagram shot, in hope of winning likes.  I have to say, they make the best mouthwatering strawberry tart that deserve a big shout out on social media in full times-ten exclamation marks and capital letters O.M.G.

White Shirts

You know it: I loooooove white shirts. I love them, I never get tired of them and last season, when I saw them popping everywhere on the runway I was all: get ready this is going to be my season. (There was also a lot of cropped tops on the runway and I was all: this is gonna be a tough season).

Here are three most important facts about the white shirt that make it awesome:

- It’s versatile and can be worn from a lazy Sunday to a red carpet ( if you’re Sharon Stone, all right?).
- It works with everything and even with nothing – a little bit longer, and it’s a perfect dress!
- It’s perfect to cover up in in the summer. My shooting outfit for summer is always an oversize white painters shirt: it protects my arms from the sun (not 100%, I still have to put sunscreen!) and I stay cool.

So, now everything I’ve see on the runway is in the stores and it’s time for action – we made a little selection of our favorites.
Mine is definitely the Junya one with the fringes. Which one do you prefer ?

Ironic Iconic

But but but… a Coca-Cola sweatshirt!??

What is this? Trendy, ironic, cooler than cool or way too much?

Ok, first of all, I have to tell you: I’m a fan of sweatshirts. I wear them pretty often, and right now I even prefer to them to wool sweaters. I like the way they look, I like their cool side, and my favorite is by Isabel Marant for H&M. I put it on every time it comes out of the machine, and I wear it until it’s time to wash it again (we all have clothes like that, right?) I like really simple sweatshirts, but I also like ones with inscriptions — preferably vintage, even though I’ve also seen some new ones that caught my eye…

But…a Coke sweatshirt, really? Where did that come from?

Well, I really don’t know. I mean, I know! I know where the idea came from — it’s from the amazing Marc Jacobs collection that came out this summer, and frankly I want to buy it all — even the sweatshirt with the reclaimed Coca-Cola logo on it.
The thing is, if it’s Marc, we all know it’s ironic — he’s making it his own, making a statement about our society. That’s what he’s always done, and I love him for it.
Seeing his show really makes you understand his vision. It was like the girls had come out of a storm, wearing whatever they had found in the wreckage… It was sad and poetic and beautiful.

Marc Jacobs Spring 2014 Photo

But this sweatshirt isn’t Marc’s. It’s from Topshop. I don’t doubt they were inspired by the idea and decided to take it even further. Keisha was wearing it the other day at the Studio, and I thought it was a really fun piece. A little ironic, a little iconic. You know what — I actually think I like it.

What do you think?

Socks + Heels

Pulling off socks and heels is a total science (Saint Laurent got it right last season). It’s all about the right shoe (not too strappy) and the perfect sock (not too bulky).

Since we are getting pretttttty sick of wearing boots, it could be the perfect combination for this almost spring weather, don’t you think?

PS: These heels are from Topshop and the socks are Maria La Rosa.

The Many Bags of Olivia Palermo, Part Two

The Many Bags of Olivia Palermo, Part Two

It’s rare that we do a Many Bags feature on a celebrity that I’ve met before, mostly because I do not hobnob with celebrities on the regular (or ever). Olivia Palermo works with an events firm that used to be housed on the same floor as the PurseBlog offices, though, and I am here to tell you that she (and her handbag collection, which we first documented in December 2012) is absolutely lovely. Not only did she not mind that Bea and I accosted her to ask about her handbag when she was in the building one day, but she dished with us about it like a totally normal person. A totally normal person with flawless skin, but still. Below you’ll find all the pretty things that Olivia’s been carrying since the last time we checked in with her.

The Moto Jacket

Click on the image to see the full post…

THE PLACE: High Line, NYC
THE GIRL: Drake Burnette
THE STYLE: I love this feminine take on the usually tough moto jacket. Not only is it extra chic but it will keep you from freezing on super cold days. Layer your shirt and sweater underneath the jacket (maybe add a little Heattech…) and put on a pair of leather leggings with your skirt for added warmth (genius, why did I never think of this until now?). Cool boots and a hat don’t hurt either…

Hat, Neil Barrett; Denim shirt, Madewell; Sweatshirt, Topshop; Moto jacket, Acne; Skirt, Veronique Leroy; Leather pants, Rag & Bone; Boots, Maison Martin Margiela.

THIS JACKET

pinkpink1Jacket: TOPSHOP

I was going to say that I am not normally into pink but then I realized that is partially a lie. I guess what I really mean is that I don’t actively look for things in this color but as I was browsing my Lookbook I found some looks wearing it.
I bumped into this jacket last night as I was browsing -promise I wasn’t shopping- some online shops. I really don’t have space in my closet anymore and there is a pile of clothes on my favorite couch at my living room that I cant fit in my wardrobe anymore, so the last think I need is a new jacket. But then again, this jacket….

Kate the Great!

She is BACK!!!!!!!!!

The ultimate style icon, Kate Moss, is pairing up once again with Topshop for 40-50 pieces to be released this spring. Thank GOD!!!

When Kate’s first Topshop collaboration came out in London in 2007, I was one of the thousands of people queuing outside of the building, desperate to grab any faux-fur gilet or ‘vintage’ flapper dress within reach. I am still coveting the infamous pansy tea dress that sold out in minutes (FYI, there is one remaining dress on Ebay being sold for over 100 pounds).

So three and a half years after Kate supposedly called it quits, she is back with a vengeance, creating new clothes, accessories and shoes (SHOES!!) that are inspired by her own personal wardrobe. As if we didn’t already know it, this future capsule collection shows that Kate will forever be a style icon (and forever a festival-goer’s inspiration), but do you think she is still as relevant as she was in 2007?

A few things I love…

Arrrgh, it’s me!

This morning, I want to show you a couple things I love, and one thing I hate.

Okay, should we start with the things I love?

#1 – These MiH jeans that I love so much, I bought two of them.
What’s so special about them? It’s that I love their trumpet shape, short and flared at the bottom.
This is a cut that’s coming straight from the 90’s (Caroline Bessette, style queen used to wear that all the time!) and that my slim-saturated conscience had been looking for them for a while.
Okay, I still wear skinnies tighter that a Monday morning on the subway. But still.

#2 – These shoes. I’ll come back to them.

#3 – This perfect Phillip Lim bag (Remember? I had fallen in love with it here). Not too big, not too small, it can fit my Ipad and even my camera if I push a little, big ups for that.

#4 – This leopard print coat from Topshop. I looooved the print so much that I decided to do with a cut that is not quite perfect for me (it’s like a 60’s type of shape, with short and wide sleeves, not exactly my thing).

I’ve been looking for years for a nice leopard coat that’s not tacky, not made of fur, with a nice print and let’s say that with this one, I’m getting very close, what do you think ?

Okay. We’ve talked about the things I love, now, as promise, let’s talk about the thing I hate… Or if I may say, the thing I used to hate…

My bun.

I had come to hate it so much, I was so over it, I had told you so much about it, that on Friday… I cut it all.

Short. No but short short, Michelle Williams short.

Hiiiiiiii!!!

I’ve been learning to live with it for three days, and now I think I can tell you that I love it.

Showing it to you (and telling you the story) as soon as possible.

PS: The photo is by Scott!

The summer has been great, I mean really really fantastic, our first proper summer since 2006, I haven’t even had my first summer holiday abroad yet, not until after London Fashion Week which is just around the corner.  I’m going to North Cyprus with my siblings for a week, CAN NOT WAIT!

Last week’s heatwave left my elderly laptop in danger of combusting itself, which almost scalded my left lap, it could have been worst if I wore polyester clothing or anything that melts easily in scorching temperature.  I gave the old girl a long decent break to rejuvenate itself whilst I was away for a few days working in an undisclosed location somewhere in the English countryside, I came back with a heat rash and summer flu but the old girl is still at it again.  I forfeit.

A while ago, MCM hosted a VIP luncheon at Coya to celebrate the successful collaboration launch of ‘Eyes on Horizon’ collection with Craig & Karl, their pops of colours and cutesy eyes, lips, palm motifs are my idea of summer (fantasy), the pouch and brief case are firmly on my wish list.  Meeting Mrs Kim, CEO of MCM and Sungjoo Group was the best highlight of the day.  It seems like forever ago since I posted my last outfit post in May, possibly due to lack of outfit choices or not enough new MCM bags to feature on here.  This candy crush mini mint tote from the Candy Bag collection is perhaps one of my favourite bags added to my MCM collection, it’s a mini version of my red Nuovo L tote (now my second favourite, opps) and I’m utterly, utterly in love with it.  Oh, the Candy Bag collection is not out yet!

My wardrobe: Top from Uniqlo, midi skirt from ASOS, Mai Tai shoes from Whistles, watch c/o Folli Follie, sunglasses from Topshop, Cliche phone case c/o Candies Gifts (HK), mint Candy bag and credit card wallet c/o MCM.  Outfit shots by Shini.

Skirt: TopShop  |  Shoes: MANGO  |  Cropped top: H&M  |  Bag: Proenza Schouler

And to think I was about to get rid of this skirt. The other day as I was doing a Spring clean out and bringing the items I don’t wear anymore out of my closet, this was one of the unlucky ones. It stayed on a small pile of clothes waiting for me to figure out what to do with it, but then, as I started packing for my trip to Mexico, I glanced over and saw it. What was I thinking!?

It is now safely hanging back in my closet.

My mood in these days definitely is sporty chic: I’m getting mad for sporty tshirts, large tank tops worn with skinny jeans, sneakers and shorts.
When I saw this dress/maxi tshirt I immediately thought about it this way, and wore it one day after: here It is enriched by Isabel Marant pumps and my new passepartout bag from Saint Laurent found on Runin2, which is my best travel companion.

On Wednesday night, after the fifth day spent in Sao Paulo we took two flights towards United States: the destination was Marfa, Texas, for a beautiful project with Bar III that you’ll soon discover about.
First stop on the road was the Prada Marfa store: an art installation by both artists Elmgreen and Dragset in the middle of the desert. So rad :)

Fantastica :)

Let yourself go: this is the philosophy that Hudson Jeans chose for its new collection and the one I decided to “marry” for this Milan fashionweek.
I fell in love with three different pairs of Hudson jeans, I went to the event organized at Excelsior, I met the testimonial of the project, Georgia May Jagger and, of course, I got wild around Milan with my new jeans.
