Valentine’s Day Gift Guide: Handbags that say “I love you”
Valentine’s Day! If my informal research is any indication, you probably think of it as either your favorite holiday or the worst day of the year, but no matter which you choose, it still comes around once a year, every year. And if you’re in a relationship, that means that you still have to find ways to gently guide your significant other toward the right kind of Valentine’s-appropriate gift. We have a few ideas, obviously, and they’re all shaped like handbags.
This Valentine’s Day Gift Guide is our first of two, and it’s for the partner that wants to hit this Valentine’s Day out of the proverbial park (or who simply has an enviably large discretionary budget and wants to spend it on you). From $270 to $2595, we’ve got plenty of red and pink bags that make great gifts and that will remind you of a very happy V-Day every time you use them.

Valentino Mini VaVaVoom Shoulder Bag, $1695 via Net-a-Porter

Mixing snakeskin is still big for spring
Ok, so we’ve spent plenty of time lately talking about brights, neons and other assorted eye-assaulting colors that you might want to wear for spring. While Megs and I love and adore those kinds of bags, we realize that they may not be for every, either in a practical or an aesthetic sense. If you’d like something a tad more neutral but you still want to update your bag wardrobe for spring, you’re in luck – snakeskin is still the texture that everyone wants to have.
We’ve covered the all-snake look in the past, but for many women, a bag that mixes snakeskin and regular leather is a more demure option that allows a bag to be acceptable in a work environment where it might have otherwise been a bit too showy. Plus, mixing textures is also a big trend, so you’re getting a little bang for your buck here. (Your metaphorical buck, at least. Stuff’s still expensive.) And yes, we included one bright option. It’s almost spring, I couldn’t help it.

Fendi Chameleon Colorblock Tote, $5370 via Neiman Marcus

Yves Saint Laurent Cabas ChYc Python Tote, $2795 via Neiman Marcus

Jimmy Choo Jasmine Python and Leather Clutch, $1695 via Saks

Dolce & Gabbana Dolce Straw Handbag, $1875 via Neiman Marcus

Reed Krakoff Standard Mini Shoulder Bag, $690 via Net-a-Porter

Michael Kors Saddle Bag, $895 via Neiman Marcus
Hugo Boss fashionshow in Berlin

The Hugo Boss show, my first show of the Berlin fashion week, give a really good impression of the german fashion.
On the red carpet before the show started there were a lot of vips: from Julianne Moore to Rupert Everett, from Jared Leto to Pixie Geldoff.
The pieces were black and white at the beginning, with very clean and rigorous cuts they started to be colorful as orange, pink and violet (especially for man).
I was impressed especially by some pieces with leather details and chromatic prints, that I hope to wear soon on my outfits. And talking about looks, this is what I chose for the fashionshow: I decided to mix leopard and burgundy jeans again, after I loved it in Barcelona. It was a pity that the rain ruined a bit the quality of the photos.
Berlin It was nice seeing you!

Shoes, shoes and shoes

One of the most beloved post on the blog has always been this one about my platforms and wedges collection, from November 2010. During all this time a lot of you asked me to make a new post about my shoe collection and on Monday, ordering the shoe closet of the new house, I decided It was the right time for it. Before Monday I used to keep the designer shoes in their original boxes in the same shoe closet with the low cost shoes, which didn't have their box. On Monday I decided to remove all the boxes, which were hard to get and were getting so much space, leaving all my wedges and platforms "free" in the shoe closet (and I still have some space available) :D
I've been collecting shoes for years (with bags, another great passion of mine) but most of these shoes were presents from brands and estores, received thanks to the visibility of the blog: before opening The Blonde Salad in October 2009 I used to own a third (probably less) than all these beauties. Here for you some photos for shoe lovers like me :)
I'm waiting to see what's your favourite pair!

My New Year’s Eve look

As every respectable blogger, I decided to shoot some photos of my New Year's Eve look to share them here with you. Small problem: all the photos turned out pretty bad. Today then, at 2.30 pm (I bet you can imagine the faces of the people near us) I dressed up again with my night look, trying to shoot some photos on the "small toy" that Richi and I received to try for 2 weeks from Maserati: Maserati Quattroporte Sport Gts (thanks to it now Richi loves me even more).
For NYE night I chose black and golden colours: with a classic Guess By Marciano dress I wore shiny tights, Hermes Collier De Chien bracelet and maxi necklace from Versace for H&M. Fresh photos for you :)

Vogue Fashion’s Night Out in Tokyo

The main reason of my visit to the wonderful Tokyo was the Vogue Fashion's Night Out on the 5th November: I was one of the official blogger of the day, also called Ultrabloggers :) The experience was absolutely positive: we got all together at 11, starting our visits from the new Costume National concept store, and then to all the other boutiques to meet editors, designers and followers of the blog who filled me with smiles :) Omotesando was fulll of people, all the stores had limited edition pieces or different kinds of animation: an experience which left me speechless. And japanese people look like they're from another world: all so nice, polite, positive and emotional. At night we were invited to the Michael Kors party at the American embassy, with a live performance by Jennifer Hudson... Carolina, Mattias, Richi and I then ended the night with a drink at the New York bar at Park Hyatt, from the movie "Lost in translation"... Oh Tokyo!
Oh Tokyo!
Breakfat + Audi ride + Costume National concept store = Meeting again Ennio Capasa in the new concept store of Costume National was an incredible adventure, loved the concept of the building and the dresses of the new collection

Omotesando Hills = That's where the official opening of the Vogue Fashion's Night Out was held. Met so many lovely readers of the blog, including my beloved Yuka!

Louis Vuitton = you already know how much I love the Louis Vuitton collection, tried on for the first time this amazing coat.. Wanted to take it home with me

Emporio Armani = best products for me were the knits, loved them in the burgundy colour

Michael Kors = Met most of my followers there, plus met in person for the first time Michael Kors :)

Hermes = We had the chance to take photos wearing all the new Hermes carré :)

H&M = How wonderful was the girls' makeup?

Reed Krakoff = In the photos the two bags I like the most of the collection

Roberto Cavalli = This is the first Roberto Cavalli boutique in Tokyo, opened a short time ago. How I wish I could wear those dresses!

Prada = Doesn't need any description! The store near Omotesando is a must see!
Dior = Live performance was the best animation of all the day :)

Fendi = Loved spending my time at the Fendi boutique, so many lovely pieces, including the blue fur I tried on :)

Michael Kors party at the American Embassy = Jennifer Hudson played live and I had a blast with all my friends :)

During the day I was wearing:
YVES SAINT LAURENT TRIBTOO BOOTS
MISSONI FOR TARGET DRESS
HERMES COLLIER DE CHIEN BRACELET
MIU MIU MAXI CLUTCH

Oh Tokyo!
Oh Tokyo!

PurseBlog Poll: Are you done with leopard print?
Gauging a trend’s lifespan can be a precarious endeavor, particularly when that trend is born out of something like leopard print, which is an innate classic whether its haters want to admit it or not. It’s been around for ages, and even though it tends to fall in and out of favor cyclically, it will never leave the style world entirely. For leopard lovers like me, that’s a beautiful thing.
Over the past couple of seasons, though, leopard has been pushed by every brand from Givenchy to the Gap. I find this Yves Saint Laurent Cabas Chyc Tote in leopard haircalf exceptionally beautiful, but thanks to overexposure, it does occur to me that some of you might disagree. We’ve set up a handy-dandy poll to measure your leopard fatigue after the jump, or you can buy this bag via Nordstrom for $2795.
Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.
How sad to hear of the premature death of YSL muse LouLou de la…

How sad to hear of the premature death of YSL muse LouLou de la Falaise. The jewellery designer was one of the first to rock Yves Saint Laurent’s ‘Le Smoking’ tuxedo and of course, we have been channelling her handsome masculine-with-a-dash-of-flamboyance style ever since…

Craziest Shoe Of Paris Fashion Week ?
It took me about two minutes to understand what kind of UFO was walking in front of me at the YSL show, but as soon as I ended up realizing well, this a shoe, I almost immediately started really liking it.
You would say, it’s very editorial. Meaning, unwearable.
But then I also showed them to the girls at the studio, and they also really liked them ! They would wear them. So what do you think ? Would you wear them ?
Fashion Week Diary
Fashion Week Diary because even though Milan is already behind us, I still haven’t really told you much more than “I love these shoes! I love this show! I love this girl!” And really, I’m a much deeper more profound girl than that (“I love yoga!!!”)
So today, special just for you….. *drum roll please…*
The Big Questions I’m Asking Myself During Fashion Week
Big Question Number One :
Where are our favorite models from years past?
Did you see the shows? C’mon! Where was Freja? And where was Sasha? And Constance? We all saw the fantastic Karlie Kloss do a few turns on the runway but outside of that, only cute little newbies.
So here’s the question : Are they saving them for Paris? Are they getting exclusive contracts? Are they now too big to do all the shows? Are they over and done for and fallen into the dark hole of fashion’s long forgotten?
Already Calvin Klein stole the beautiful Lara Stone to walk his and only his runways.
(Personal message for Lara : Lara, I miss your sexy truck driver walk)
So this is me saying right here and now, give me back my Freja.
Big Question Number Two :
What’s going on with cheekbones?
It was 10 or so years ago, okay, probably more but that doesn’t matter, that someone decided that the thing that every woman had to dream of having would be a luscious mouth. (and you have to say it with a sexy accent, like Laetitia Casta : luhseeeuhhzzzz)
No problem, some people thought, we’ll just pump ‘em up!!! Done!
10 years of giant smackers later, the same person decided that the new thing we had to dream of having would be high cheek bones.
As soon as that took, some people said (probably the same people, indeed) : We’ll just pump ‘em up!!!
It’s a pretty scary little circus show to watch those addicted to plastic surgery.
So this is me saying right here and now, please stop.
Big Question Number Threeeeee!
Who is going to win the designer race?
Marc is going to Dior, Phoebe to Vuitton, Raf to YSL, nothing is fully confirmed and is all very vague and every day some new piece of huge news comes falling down upon us. “coming from sources very, very, very, very close to the designer…” but nothing ever happens.
Who, whoooooo, whoooooo is going where??? Please, I beeeeeeegggggg you, just tellllllll me or I’m going to have a heart attaaaaaaaack!!! Ohmagadohmagad!
Ok, I’m kidding.
And for now… Big Question Number Foooour!!!
What will the Kanye West Collection Look Like?
Wait, there we have it!!! Kanye is actually going to win the designer race!
Yes, no, yes really, of course you heard me right. Kanye is launching his own women’s collection during Fashion Week Paris and we’re invited because we’re so buddy buddy with the staaaaaars (say it like Laetitia Casta, with the stahrrrrrrrs)
So there you have it all you haters who think that Kanye West goes to all the fashion shows for some shameless self promotion : nope, wrong again —-> He’s doing industrial espionage!!!!
The show is at 9:30pm, which is when I’m usually fast asleep, but I’m still going. Because if it’s anything near what Victoria Beckham’s The Row was like, then I won’t make any fun beforehand. Kanye West the fashion show, I’m sure it’ll be great.
And finally Big Question number fiiiiiveeee
The mosquito that is currently fighting hard for dear life on my leg, won’t he just go ahead and die a terribly painful death, like, I dunno, under the 25 pounds of US Vogue that I’m about to drop on his head?
That’s the last Big Question of the day and I have even fewer answers than for the others. Unfortunately, for my leg, if we run into each other and I’ve got red spots all over my leg, please please please, just don’t ask me any questions.
Aaaah, actually, come to think of it, I still have a whole bunch of Big Questions!!! Okay. Give me your answers to these ones and I’ll keep them coming as soon as I have this mosquito situation figured out.
Big hugs!

Yves Saint Laurent’s Resort 2012 handbags are fun on the high seas
With head designer Stefano Pilati’s relationship with Yves Saint Laurent bigwigs rumored to be growing ever more tense, it’s always interesting to see what Pilati will turn out when it’s time for a new collection. I was lukewarm on his work for Fall 2011, but Yves Saint Laurent Resort 2012 is a whole different story. Not only were the nautical-chic clothes absolutely lust-worthy, but the bags and shoes, which are most brands’ chief moneymakers, will likely retail very well.
The bag that I’m most excited about is the Yves Saint Laurent Chyc Cabas, which you can see in one of its iterations above. The roomy tote has both functional and aesthetic appeal, and the frayed red straw accented with white leather and gold hardware makes me want to leave my apartment and make friends with someone who owns a boat. This collection will hit stores right around my birthday. Hint hint.

Yves Saint Laurent’s Muse Two Artisanal is both chic and socially responsible
Yves Saint Laurent Muse Two Artisanal Recycled, $1720 via YSL.
Usually, women only ask two things of their handbags: That they be fabulous and functional. Increasingly, though, some women are making a third request of their clothing and accessories: That it also has a sense of social responsibility. Admittedly not everyone cares about what impact their purchases have on the world or on the people who produced them, but the number of people who do are growing, which makes it fashionable for global brand to debut products like the limited editionYves Saint Laurent Muse Two Artisanal Recycled Bag, which was produced by artisans in Burkina Faso with Fair Trade cotton and recycled plastic bags. For real.
Although I’m betting that most people will balk at paying over $1700 for a cotton handbag even if it is part of a 60-piece handmade run that’s only available online to US and UK customers, the more luxury companies undertake projects like this, the better. Mainstreaming responsible manufacturing processes is a slow process, but this bag makes it hard to argue that the results aren’t every bit as good as their traditional counterparts. Available via YSL.com for $1720.
Yves Saint Laurent: One bag, six colors
Yves Saint Laurent Lucky Chyc Colorblock Tote, $1350 via Net-a-Porter
By now, we all know what spring’s big trend are: Colorblocking, mixed brights, pink and orange, brights contrasted with neutrals. We’ve all been saying this since the collections made their fashion week debuts six months ago, and those looks have made their way to retail with a vengeance. And in the case of the Yves Saint Laurent Lucky Chyc Colorblock Tote, they’ve all showed up in one design.
I really want to like this bag, but I just can’t find it within me. I like the idea – the mixture of brights and neutrals, the bold swaths of color, the functional structure are things that I’ve been digging lately in almost all iterations, but this one just isn’t quite right. The yellow is too mustard-y and not bright enough, the mismatched neutral gussets compete with the rest of the design and should have been left the same color for the sake of symmetry and an ivory handle will show wear almost immediately with any sort of regular use.
Being on-trend doesn’t automatically make a design good, and unfortunately, this bag illustrates that perfectly. YSL came close to having a winner on its hands, and I still appreciate the functional structure (particularly the roomy and well-disguised front pocket), but the rest of the bag needs some tweaks to get it on the right track. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $1350.
Let’s revisit the Yves Saint Laurent Roady
The Yves Saint Laurent Roady has had a place in the sun for well over a year now, which means that it’s only fair that we step back and reevaluate its popularity in the context of what’s going on in accessories at the moment. Is the Roady a bag that you still want to own?
It may be bigger than current trends dictate, and I don’t think we’ve seen a python version of the Roady so far (although Fall 2011 promises python versions of every bag ever made, so the odds are good), but I’m still a big fan of the Roady and its minimalist, functional shape. I would make but two improvements: A lighter interior lining to make it not such a black hole and a small exterior pocket for my cell phone. On the side that would face my body, of course.
Mostly, I continue to be impressed by what excellent canvases bags like this make for beautiful colors. I like this bag for the same reason that I’m so drawn to Balenciaga’s motorcycle bags – simple shapes and hardware let a saturated color take center stage, and I find myself utterly transfixed by this deep shade of almost-navy. So do you still want a Roady, or would you prefer this hue in a different design? Buy through Saks for $1495.
