My Essentials / Elisa

elisa-nalin-essentials-2

There are certain women you see all the time on my blog, and that’s just simply because they inspire me the most.

Take Elisa for example. During the fashion weeks, I can always pick her out in a crowd. She’s the queen of color blocking and has the most feminine tomboy look I’ve ever seen. I just love it. That said, I wondered what she would say if I asked her the same questions Emmanuelle Alt was asked (that interview about Emmanuelle’s staples really stuck with me and I find myself going back to it all the time, and it even dates back to the 90s! Truly a timeless woman…) It was super last minute and she was in the middle of a shoot (Elisa is a stylist) but since she’s just such a dear heart, here’s what she responded…

My Top: a silk shirt buttoned all the way up, in any blue or turquoise shade.

My Bottom: Men’s shaped trousers that are a bit short at the ankles. My favorites are vintage Chloé from the Phoebe Philo period.

My Jeans: I have to say I have just recently started to wear jeans (I discovered them while I was pregnant) but my favorites now are a pair of skinny, but not too tight at the ankles (I hate that-I call it the leggings effect), beige Zara ones! I have worn that so much they are falling into pieces : (

My Evening: I’m always swearing on silk! Whatever it could be…a blouse with a pair of shantung masculine trousers or a Dries Van Noten silk dress (I’m obsessed right now with an emerald green one…)

My Intimates: La Perla for their amazing bras and Intimissimi panties, invisible ones: no stitching, no elastic bands, perfection!

My Coat: Mmmh I have too many and I love to change it all the time… But I would say my essential for this winter, and I’m really wearing it all the time, is a suuuuper light and incredibly soft blue-grey Fendi. It has a pretty classic shape, it’s knee length, with a hidden button.

My Bag: It’s the same as the coats … I don’t really have one in particular but in my wardrobe there are for sure essentials to have:

-One clutch bag or an envelope-shaped one.

-A really big one, like a shopping bag shape, a cabas in French, where you can put your life in it and mine includes a baby, so I always need enough space to put toys, etc…

My Shoes: Well, you know I’m a shoe freak… I don’t even know how many pairs I own…but for essentials I would definitely say:

-A pair of flat derbys, like the Fred from Louboutin.

-A pair of Repetto Zizi.

- A pair of very extravagant, very high heels like Pierre Hardy.

My Accessories: I love and live for accessories so they are definitely an essential for me! What I could not live without are belts, scarves, and necklaces!

My Watch: I don’t wear one, I make them go crazy… But if I would it would be a Chanel one, the small one with the chain bracelet.

My Glasses: Love sunglasses! My essentials are a pair of KBL’s.

My Scent: A very old Sicilian perfume called Zagara, it’s made from oranges and lemon trees flowers, and jasmine flower. I can’t live without it!!!

My Blonde: Platinum blonde always! Very cold tone, almost white! My Hair is always done by Karin Bigler, a wonderful hair stylist with who I work with a lot. She comes to my house or I go to her, since I haaate going to hair salons!

My Lip: Bright matte orange from Mac.

My Skin: Natural, I only use Bare Minerals and Nuxe gold oil.

My Inspiration: My inspirations are sooooo many! Art, photography, movies, vintage, nature !!! I do not really have icons but I do have a great great admiration for Coco Chanel and Wallis Simpson…

And there you have it!!! To close, here’s a quick Elisa tour… Big hugs!

LOOK OF THE DAY "MEXICO"

It makes me a little nostalgic to post these pictures because it was the last Look of the Day I shot before I left Mexico 2 weeks ago, but also because my mom drove me to this far away location to make the photos look more special.
I posted some photos by the corn fields 2 weeks ago, but I kinda prefer these ones. There was something about the blue sky mixed with the gold shade of the cropped fields that captivated me and as soon as we drove by and I told my mom; Stop! We gotta shoot here! :P

WEDNESDAY. Wore this outfit to lunch with a friend yesterday, and I still can’t believe I can get away with wearing an outfit like this in the end of December. Last year it was absolutely freezing around this time of the year and I was wearing about 500 layers to survive the cold. But I’m sure the winter weather will come back and bite us in the ass in january and february. Oh well, I guess the best thing to do is to just enjoy it while it lasts, right? ;)

LOVE. Sorry about the lack of posts these past days, I don’t know why but the week before new years I’m always completely exhausted and out of inspiration. But come New Years Eve I’m usually back to my normal self, all excited about the upcoming year and making impossible new years resolutions like “start going to the gym 4 times a week” or “stop eating candy”, you know, the kind of horrible promises you simply can’t commit to!

Speaking of which, my post xmas “no shopping until next year” ban broke the minute I saw these awesome shoes on sale at Zara and it took me about 2 seconds to run to the cashier and buy them. Oh well, rules are meant to be broken, right? ;)

LOOK OF THE DAY "AS DREAMERS DO"

I have spent the past 3 days on a Christmas shopping spree madness so at the moment all I want to do is sit at home by the Christmas tree and relax all day.
I had an appointment with the hairdresser and I left in such a rush that I shamelessly left home without any makeup on and right after getting my haircut I was -again- in such a rush that all I could do with my hair was make the quickest bun, that's why my hairdo of the day is a shitty sideways bun, but at least I finally got a haircut ;)

I have a confession to make, I have been listening to "Under the sea" and "Kiss the girl" from the Little mermaid all day, I can't help it, it reminds of my childhood and the Christmas season makes me so nostalgic. In fact I might just watch all my favorite Disney movies today, The Little mermaid, The Beauty and the Beast, The Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and The Lion King are my favorites, which are yours?

STREETS. Ended up in the middle of a minor storm while snapping these pictures last weekend and these two were the only ones where my hair wasn’t covering my entire face, hehe. I know you guys must be super sick of these boots by now, but they go so well with, well, everything! I’m the kind of person who wear things that I like until they fall apart, or, until I’m so sick of them that I feel like throwing up. But I’m far from there yet so bare with me a little longer!

Tomorrow is the first day of December and I have something really fun in store for you, but more on that tomorrow ;)

SATURDAY. This sweater has been hiding in the back of my closet for weeks with the price tag still attached and I had kind of forgotten about it until I rediscovered it this morning. And you know what? It kind of turned out to be the perfect sweater – high neck, super long sleeves, slit side hems and most importantly, super warm. Definitely a keeper! Isn’t it ironic how the best place to find new, amazing pieces sometimes turns out to be your own closet?

LEOPARD. Christmas is slowly sneaking up on us (I mean, just look at all those christmas trees lurking in the background of these pictures..) and still, no snow as far as the eye can see. Not that I’m complaining, snow + high heels aren’t exactly a match made in heaven and I’m not ready to change into flat boots just yet!

These leopard print Zara jeans are another pair I found during my Barcelona trip. The waist is a little too low for my taste, so I paired them with one of my boyfriends denim shirts, and voila, not even visible. They’re a whole lot of fun to play around with so you can definitely expect to see a lot more of these pants on the blog!

BURGUNDY. Next in line of colorful denim are these deep Burgundy ones I found at Topshop. The color is even more stunning in person and I love the dramatic effect they provide when paired with black & gold! The Pierre Cardin knit I’m wearing is probably one of my most treasured vintage finds of all times. I remember screaming with joy when I found it at the bottom of a gigantic pile of random raindeer sweaters (even more so when I saw the price tag, pretty much got it for free). It’ s one of those lifesaver pieces that I whip out whenever an outfit is in need of that extra oomph, and it never fails!

LOOK OF THE DAY "YOUR SECRET SIDE"

I have no words to express how cold it's been this week, or maybe its my Mexican blood that makes me feel 1000 times colder than everyone else. I don't know but if the news is right and this is expected to be the coldest winter in I don't know how many years, I am preparing a master plan to escape Holland during the winter, so see you in Australia, or maybe Brazil or how about the Maldives? ;)

LOOK OF THE DAY "WELCOME TO CANCUN"

Its fre(akin')ezing  cold outside so I decided to bring a bit of Cancun in my pants, you know, its all about fooling the brain ;)

When the first images of the Versace for H&M collection came out, I have to admit that I paid little attention to the palm tree printed items and I am finding it extremely amusing that when I was at the show last tuesday, those very items were the ones that caught my eye the most, I wanted EVERYTHING on the palm tree fabric -even the mens stuff- and now they are hanging in my closet.

When you see this look you will probably think that you never expected to see me wearing this, at least from the waist down, but gosh, how do I love this leggings.
Its that kind of pants that you either love or you hate and you should have seen the stares I got while I was walking around the city, but I don't mind, I wear what I like and I like what I wear, I advice you to do the same ;)

LOOK OF THE DAY "SO MANY REASONS WHY"

I wanted to say that Autumn is my favorite season, but then I remembered that ever since I left Mexico I really cherish the warm summer days, so I guess Summer and Autumn are right there on top of the list, but then again, winter looks so pretty with the snow right?
Choosing my favorite season is kinda hard, I guess all seasons have their charm and the best thing about Autumn for me has to be the colors of nature, specially when the trees start turning yellow, red or orange.

I left home very excited about shooting at the forest because of the color of the trees, but as soon as I stepped outside, it started drizzling and my hair became a frizz nightmare, oh well, the show must go on...Have an amazing week ahead and remember that before we know it, it'll be Weekend again and Oh-I-cant-wait-to-tell-you where I am heading next Monday! :D

LOOK OF THE DAY "ZIP IT"

Once again I am getting ready to go to the airport and I have to admit, that this is somehow becoming a routine in my life.
In fact, I am so used to it that I have been recognized by the duty free shop assistants on numerous occasions, not because of my blog, but because I normally tend to hang out there to kill time before my flight and spend money buying unnecessary things, which somehow seem necessary when you are at the airport.

This time I am off to Azerbaijan for the opening of a new multi-brand shop called Emporium, in fact, I wont be the only blogger there and as far as I know, Yvan will also be there.
I have to admit that I have no knowledge whatsoever about this particular part of the world, so I am incredibly excited to have the chance to see it and experience it.
As usual, I am traveling alone, so documenting the whole thing might be tricky but I will try my best!

See you in Baku!

Fashion Week Diary

blackberry

Kids, when the Miu Miu show finally arrives, that’s when you know that the fashion week is coming to an end. It’s a good time to ask… The Big Fashion Questions :

Did I really say yes to the photographer that wanted me to jump in front of his camera the other day after the Chloé show?

Yes. I also said yes to the team that does cinemagraph (the kind of animated gifs that you have do a moving pose for… Well it’s not easy to explain but It takes forever and you feel extra awkward doing it) I said yes to a unknown TV crew that asked me to answer some pretty weird questions and I said yes to Alexandra Golovanoff who asked me to do a huge grin in front of her camera (“Not a cute grin !” She said “Try to be VERY ugly!”)… And so I said yes to a guy who just wanted me to jump in front of his camera .

When I am tired, I have no more moral strength,

So yeah… Now’s the time. Just ask me what you want.

What’s the big mistake to not do at the beginning of fashion week?

Wear flats. When you start off with flats, wearing any pair of heels is gonna feel like climbing the Everest. Heels during this past fashion week? Not so much for me…

I have worse : I bought a pair of flat Zara shoes in a moment of desperation (“I can’t walk one more step in those heels ! Oh here, a Zara ! Cool !”) and they are super cute + super comfortable.

So not only was I on flats.

But wearing the same shoes everyday.

From Zara.

What a fashionista.

Did I succeed in doing anything with my hair ?

Nope. Fast bun, everyday. No time to do better. I am not proud.

Will I succeed in keeping my perfecta fashion week streak going all the way through Paris?

Nope. The day I got to Paris, even though I had continued on with daily running and yoga and eating decently well all through London and Milan, I forgot everything.

I had a glass of red wine, left my running shoes in my suitcase and attacked the morning croissant disaster (Morning croissant, how could i live so long without you ?)

Justification : I’m just too busy.

Reality : I’ve lost all will. Give me anything, I’ll eat it.

Was carrying two suitcases with me to try to be relatively well dressed everyday for three weeks worth it ?

Mmmmmm… No. Thanks to the crazy Indian summer we had, I think I barely used 5% of what I had packed. The elements are against my fashion icon destiny.

Did I take my bike on the plane with me from New York City ?

Question asked by… Actually quite a lot of people (???!).

No no no. I rented it, and in Paris even found a place who delivers your bike at your hotel. Isn’t that chic ?

So, with everything I have seen, do I know what I want to wear for next summer ?

No idea. I think I have a fashion indigestion… Give me a few days.

Am I becoming a party animal?

Totally!

I found a dress in 5 minutes, with no added drama. I borrowed it from Gucci (I was able to close it in spite of the croissant disaster), I put my hair up with a lot of styling gel, put too much black on my eyes and there you go. I even booked a driver to not have the painful one-o-clock-looking-for-a-taxi-in-Paris-in-an-evening-gown thing, I had fun, I danced, and oooooh crap. I have nothing more to tell you it was so fun and uneventful and I am such a party animal.

Well. A party animal who went back before midnight.

Guys, it’s a good start.

I know, a start but fashion week is over, etc…

Well but look at that beautiful recap ! I am becoming a total fashion week pro ! Weeeeeell, almost.

Next season I’ll be on top of my game. I’ll even try to change my hair everyday.

All right, off to Miu Miu ! Lots of kisses and thank you so much for following fashion week with me !!!

Zara Plain Blue Basket Shopper

zara bag daily buy

My high street favourite, Zara, just keeps on getting better and better this year! This gorgeous oversized shopper bag is a perfect example of their great key pieces that are worth investing in this summer. Not only does it work the block colour trend, it is also big enough to carry just about everything needed for work, a weekend away or the beach.

If you are like me and end up carrying your whole life in your handbag… this fabulous piece of arm candy is worth a look.
